Inglorious Basterds (2009) Full Length Reaction

I think this just might be my masterpiece.

Wow! I was really blown away by this one! The writing, the dialogue (that subtext!), the characters, the acting down to every little detail. Christoph Waltz was a stand out but every one of the actors were excellent, down to the small parts like the father at the beginning + the Nazi interrogating them in the basement bar. I will watch this one again some time because I was fascinated by the acting moments. Should I check out more Tarantino?

Thanks for watching with me! 😊

Inglorious Basterds (2009) Full Length Reaction

Comments

There's a not particularly serious theory that all Tarantino's movies are set in the same fictional world, that hinges mostly on this one. An alternate history where Hitler gets blown up in a movie theater would explain a lot about the slightly strange ways the world works in, for example, Kill Bill, where a lady on a mission of vengeance has no trouble bringing a sword on an airplane. And how everyone is super into music and movies. Stuff like that. So the answer to the question "did this really happen?" would be "sure, in Tarantinoverse."

yes Tarantino dark sense of humor hears an interesting interview discussing his films with comic Tom Segura's 2bears one cave podcast for your viewing pleasure when you have an extra 1.5 hr. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCx67cnQQf8

Schnapps over there isn't like here in North America. It's a hard-core liquor, as opposed to the peach schnapps you're thinking of. Think of it more like a Northern European Tequila. Also, the stuff Brad Pitt keeps shoving up his nose is called snuff. It's tobacco, like chewing tobacco, but you shove it up your nose I guess. I've never done it.

Thanks for this reaction, as always. Looks like the consensus thus far is you should watch all the Tarantino movies. Maybe just throw one in every now and then; you only have 7 more, easy! I would also point out a thing that may be of no importance , depending I guess on how much of a stickler for detail you are. You refer to any German in uniform as a Nazi. Point of fact, the German military was the Wehrmacht. The Germans in uniform who most people think of were the SS, the Shutzstaffel. The SS were the ones that worked the death camps, etc. The SS was not the military, although they did wear a style of uniform, i.e., Hans Landa was in the SS, Fredrick Zoller was a soldier in the Wehrmacht. To say all German soldiers were Nazis would be sort of like saying all American soldiers are Democrats.

I see you've done Django, that is good. Once Upon a Time ...in Hollywood should be on your list along with Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs. All of his stuff is good but those are three of my favorites. Others will recommend the Kill Bill movies, Jackie Brown, and The Hateful Eight -- also great but not my personal favorites. My favorite bit in this one is the theater scene at the end, not because of the over-the-top violence but for the moment the camera pulls back to take in the whole interior with the fire and the screaming -- On my first watch I realized that moments before the folks in that room were cheering as violence was erupting on the screen in the film-within-a-film, and now I was in a theater full of people who felt justified to cheer for the violence that was filling up the screen we were watching. It's a brilliant revenge fantasy, but it also contains, if you're paying attention, a subtle head's up moment about how violence begets violence, no matter how much you perceive it to be fully justified...

Great reaction, awesome movie, Tarantino at his finest. Heavy dialog is one of his trade marks, so u can excpect that in all of his movies. U should definitely check out his other works. U should probably continue with "Kill Bill" and "Pulp fiction", but I hope u do all nine. Two down, seven to go :) Keep it up :)

The best way to deal with/disempower Nazis- ridicule.

Having seen this, you should check out Jojo Rabbit if you haven’t seen it. Lighter tone satire of Nazis done by Taika Waititi. Really excellent movie, a lot of fun/funny but also some heavy themes and would be a great match/contrast to this one.

While binging through your backlog, as well as new stuff like Bond and this movie, it is obvious that you need to add a mini-fridge to your viewing setup just for convenient storage of champagne.

I'm still watching, but haven't seen anybody respond to your repeated "Is that true?" - this is most definitely not true. It is an alternate version of history, but I'm sure you were aware of that by the time you finished the movie. Tarantino really sells it, though, by mixing his made up stuff with many real references.

This is an odd one with me. I never think to watch this movie, until I'm put in a position to do so, but once I start, am completely engrossed from the first moments. I'm looking forward to seeing how your impulse to 'ship every possible combination is frustrated by the story. πŸ˜€

Tarantino has a lot of great Movies. If you want another Western from him "The Hateful Eight" (incredible Dialogues, acting and Cast) would be the Movie to go. Reservoir Dog, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill 1+2, Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood or Jackie Brown are also great choice.

Curaitis

Will anyone second my suggestion of Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood?

Great film, watching this with you right now. I think you might enjoy enjoy Fury (2014).
