Thank you for your courteous reply! I'm not expressing myself very well! I agree about films having deliberate messages, just as books and plays do. I wasn't suggesting any guidelines for this group, God knows! I was just describing my own inner thought processes, which might be pretty obscure. Example: lately I've been reading a lot about Vietnam, and a lot about the history of the feminist movement. If someone asked me, "Which do you think is a more important subject?" I'd be baffled. It's apples and oranges. By "message movies," I just meant that they weren't fluff like "Jackass" or "Hangover." And I am personally very sympathetic to the "issues" portrayed in both films. It's just a poll: how are we gonna make Jen smile this week? :-)

2022-11-04 16:15:01 +0000 UTCWell, sure! Although everyone who loves movies is an amateur critic, I doubt that there are any professional critics in this little group â and who would care, anyway? We're just trying to find movies that will either warm your heart, or blow your mind. You're funny when you're shocked or stunned!

2022-11-04 05:21:59 +0000 UTCI very much appreciate when you guys take into consideration that this is for my YouTube channel and that the 'best' movie may not necessarily be one that can bring out the best or most entertaining reaction

2022-11-03 20:12:57 +0000 UTC"Best" anything is quite literally just someone's opinion. Everyone has a different "best" everything. For that reason and others, I try to vote for what I think is best for this channel or that channel along with what's best for me. "Best for both" is my aim. Sometimes my 1st favorite gets the vote, sometimes my 2nd or 3rd.

2022-11-03 18:38:15 +0000 UTCI'm with John. My brain tells me that it'll be "Philadelphia," but I'm all in for "The Book of Eli." I'm not gonna say which movie is best, because that's a subjective judgment, and they're unique in their own ways. (I'd have a hard time picking "Philadelphia" or "Glory," although they're both excellent, because they're both "message" movies. That's cool, but I don't want to root for one message against another!) "The Book of Eli" is a horribly overlooked film, Jen. And now, the burden is on your shoulders: you can fix it. Do the right thing, Jen! :-)
