I'm surprised you didn't' watch any more considering how much you enjoyed it.

That's cool you have the makings of a novel!

A fun evening with pirates, what's not to love! I did begin to think they eventually over saturated the franchise a bit. But this first installment and at least the next two I have mostly fond memories of. I do have to admit though. That over the past 10 years I've had the tenancy to become more bored during long action set pieces. Especially on a 2nd/3rd watch. In a way I never did when I was younger. Grandpa perfers a talky movie more now I think. 😆 When I grew up, there seemed to be countless Sinbad and Treasure Island adaptations on the telly. Much of this I'm sure fuelled part of the inspiration for the children's short story I began to write in my 20's. An adventure about pirates, time travel and magic. Sadly the project became too big, as it developed into novel length. I wasn't able to contain the story as the idea grew. What with work commitments in changing careers, the years past and my attention to it dwindled. I always intended to finish it one day. Honestly I think it would have developed into a series had I had the time to dedicate to it. Ah well, that was a tangent.... See what I mean! 🤣 I'm happy to check out another.

Brilliant movie as ever.. bring on the next ones.. It's CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow missy.. :P Music is by Hans Zimmer, who aside from Pirates has also done the Nolan Batman films, Inception, Gladiator, Pearl Harbour, Kung Fu Panda series.. He's one of the absolute best composers in the business..

I have been to Disney once, in high school when our orchestra won a competition to go play with the Disney orchestra! We didn't spend much time on the actual rides, but it was an amazing experience :) So funny it was a ride first, I didn't realize!

Jen M

So I take it you've never been to Disney World or Disney Land. It was so weird when they decided to make a movie based on the ride. There are scenes in the movie that are taken from the ride, such as when the prisoners are trying to use the bone to get the dog to bring the keys over, and when they first arrive in Tortuga, the pirates in town are all positioned and doing the things they do from the ride. They've since updated the ride after the movie came out and added Jack Sparrow, but it still keeps the spirit of the original ride.

I can totally see watching this on a rainy day, it's so fun! Good to know about Hans Zimmer! :)

Jen M

This is one of my go-to rainy day movies, never gets old! The first three films are all about the same quality, the fourth is not great but not bad either. The fifth one is kind of blah, definitely the weak link in the franchise. At one point you asked if it was a Disney movie and yes it is. It’s actually inspired by the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disney Land/World. I believe it was also the first Disney movie to get a PG-13 rating. Klaus Badelt was the composer but he reported to the music producer who was Hans Zimmer. The soundtrack has a lot of Zimmer influences throughout it and in fact some sections were actually lifted from his previous works, particularly Gladiator. If John Williams is the king of movie scores then Zimmer is like a prince. Tortuga is a real place. It’s an island off the coast of Haiti and it was a notorious pirate haven in the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
