Blazing Saddles (1974) Full Length Reaction

Holy underwear! We've gotta protect our phoney baloney jobs!

This one was really silly + funny + I especially liked that wacky meta ending which must have blown everyone away in 1974! Is this the movie that put Mel Brooks on the map or was he already well known when this came out?

Thanks for chillin with me guys!! 😊

⭐ Special thanks to Producers: MattN, Todd Preble, CBonius, Tyler Gorash, Ed Dunn, Incognito, John Walters, JT, Noby + those who wish to remain uncredited :)

Blazing Saddles (1974) Full Length Reaction

Oh, one final point. The old lady getting beat up when the bad guys raided the town the first time was the first one to break the fourth wall.

Last point. Sorry, my mind works slowly sometimes. Slim Pickens was Taggart, the guy working directly for Hedley Lamar. You should see him in Dr. Strangelove as a B-52 pilot along with a young James Earl Jones. Peter Sellers is the real star though. He plays three of the characters in the movie. I'll leave it to you to see if you can find which three. It's complete title is "Dr. Strangelove, Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And To Love The Bomb". It's a spoof of a drama released just before it called Fail Safe starring Henry Fonda.

I'm not really into the humor of movies like Airplane, Naked Gun, Blazing Saddles. I've seen them all many times but there's only a few of the jokes I like. I prefer Silverstreak, Hear no Evil, See No Evil, and Stir Crazy. Stir Crazy is my favorite. Richard Pryor helped write the script of Blazing Saddles. Unfortunately during that time frame, Richard was having issues with Cocaine addiction and the studio felt he was a risk. Richard actually was freebasing cocaine and lite himself on fire, he suffered some pretty bad burns. He ended being the butt of jokes for years because in those days, nobody really took drug addiction seriously. Richard Pryor was a really beautiful human being. The running joke between my friend and is, "You better get bad Jack, cause if you don't get bad, you're gonna get F**ked". Richard and Gene had amazing on screen chemistry. Gene really loved Richard. He talked so warming and affectionately about the guy. The weird thing was, they didn't hang out in real life. Richard just had to many vices, which Gene wasn't into. But they made each other laugh and many times and you can see they cut the scene before either broke character. I don't think Richard would have been good at Bart because Richard was just a goofball. His mannerism alone often made me laugh. I don't he been able to play a serious roll. The serious acting Cleavon Little, against the back drop off ridiculous and absurd made this movie work.

I know him from a couple cameos he did on Mad About You in the 90's!

This was a hit mainly with younger people. It received mixed reviews when it first came out. It was the 2nd highest grossing movie in the U.S. in 1974. Before this he had an underground hit with The Producers in 1968. I couldn't say what established Brooks in terms of movies. Probably, both of those combined. Before movies, he was primarily known as a comic and writer for television in the 1950's and 60's. His first big TV show was called "You're Show of Shows", which ran from 1950-1954. He co-wrote the TV show Get Smart from 1965-1970. As a comic in the 60's, he was famously known for his improv sketch, The 2,000 year old man.
