First Blood (1982) Full Length Reaction

Don't push it or I'll give you a war you won't believe

Wow this one had a very different tone than I was expecting! The Vietnam PTSD storyline was so sad and I feel awful for how much it messed up John Rambo and also how unfairly the police treated him! Nonetheless he is a badass, a great fighter and he blew up the town in some spectacular explosions. Really curious if the sequel is any good?

Thanks to you all for watching along with me, you are awesome 😊

First Blood (1982) Full Length Reaction

Comments

The. Novel, on which the movie is based, is much different. Rambo is not a sympathetic character—he slaughters cops and civilians. His relationship with Troutman, who’s there to kil him, is not friendly. and teasle is a much more capable combatant.

After discovering today you had reacted to this and that the YouTube edit sadly had been removed I had to watch , I know it's extremely unlikely you're ready this but anyways I really enjoyed this a lot those cops were the worst being British I'm clueless on why that cop was offended by the American flag on his jacket as their jackets also had American flags 🤷 I like to think Rambo just knocked the dogs out and not killed them as it was off screen . I'd love to know where your love of explosions comes from it's wonderful seeing how excited you get when things go boom 💥 💥💥 the other Rambo movies are great but I'm guessing the copyright thing has prevented you from watching them for the channel but I hope it doesn't stop you watching in you own time , the second movie is a belter

Troutman definitely was low-key MVP, he saved Rambo's life in the end.

I'm ashamed to admit I'm not sure where she is originally from. I only know she lives in Quebec right now. At least I think. Shucks, I'm a bad friend because I don't know for sure. All I know is our office is in Montreal, but she works from home, so that doesn't mean anything. Anyway, it's very unlikely you've met. But if I didn't know better I'd swear you were related somehow. She's good people so it's a compliment.

Aaron Chandler

Lol she sounds cool 😆 I wonder if she's from a similar area in Ontario!

Jen M

Ya know, I've been thinking for a long time how much you remind me of a co-worker of mine in your mannerisms. She's also Canadian by coincidence. But never had I seen such similarities as I saw in this reaction. She was just down here in Dallas for a team event and your excitement with the explosions were nearly identical to her excitement when the team decided to do go kart racing and she won. Kinda weird, kinda fun.

Aaron Chandler

Oh thanks for those recommendations Daryl! 👍

Not surprising that you expected something a little different from this film. I say that from experience, as I was the same when I first saw it. My uninformed opinion of Stallone before I had seen any of his films was very different. I look forward to you experiencing more of his work. Obviously The Rocky films eventually and then some others like.. •Cop Land •Demolition Man My guilty pleasure, which is... •Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot. (I'll take the ridicule on that one, cuz I don't care.)😁 Given his obvious acting and writing talent, looking over his work. It's a bit of a shame that I don't list lots of varying examples. What I will say is that when he strikes gold. It's some of the best brilliantly subtle characters and inspiring storytelling ever committed to film. While it would be fun to see another Rambo film, I'm not as much of a fan of the follow ups myself. There have been a lot of films made, that feature some aspect of The Vietnam War and it's later affects. While I could list quite a number, I shall confine it to just a few, because the actors. •Jacobs Ladder (Tim Robbins) •Good Morning Vietnam (Robin Williams.) •Casualties of War (Michael J Fox) •The Post (Tom Hanks)

So sad that vets were treated that way after all they had been through! Very interested to see the other Rambo movies and more of his character 👍

Jen M

It angers me to the core of my soul when people jokingly say they have "PTSD" from some everyday thing that causes them to stress out when that person has no idea what real PTSD is. Rambo was written to bring light to all those Vietnam vets who went through the same things he experienced after coming back from the anti-war crowd at the time. It was common for many vets to be labeled baby killers when they hadn't even been in combat because the anti-war movement just painted all the vets in the same way. Glad you enjoyed the film and hope you will keep them going with the sequels. Yes they may be more action heavy but I think they serve a big purpose in fulfilling Rambo's arc as a character.

Ohhh yes, I hadn't really noticed that only the 1 guy died by accident, good point. I really liked Stallone in this and definitely would be interested to see what Rambo does next

Jen M

I love this movie. It's not really the generic "action" movie most people expect. I love the fact that only one person dies in the entire movie and it was an accident. The point wasn't just Rambo going around killing people. Rambo's breakdown at the end was so heavy and Stallone's performance was really good despite the fact that he doesn't talk much in the film. As was already said, the second movie is more of the standard action movie people expect. To me the first movie is by far the best but you will certainly be entertained if you continue the series. Also when Rambo first opens up his knife, it's because the end of it was a compass.

Oh cool, I'd love to check it out!

Jen M

The sequel, "Rambo: First Blood part 2", is a very different movie than First Blood, it transitions Rambo into more of the "action hero" he's more known for... however, it's a fantastic action film, the character of Rambo is still Rambo, he's just thrust into a different situation than the first film. Stallone gives another staller performance. The sequel also deals with post-Vietnam issues. It's my favorite of the franchise.
