The Thing (1982) Full Length Reaction

Comments

The dog was played by Jed whom was in a few movies. Carpenter was amazed at how he "acted" particularly in the hallway scene where he managed to walk into shot and ignored all the cameras and people behind camera. He was a very good boy ! So glad you are a Mass Effect fan. ME2 is my fave game all time.

pinkdino99

Super crazy ass!! 😆😆

Jen M

I'd not seen this one before, but I purposefully saved it till this month. The effects were really interesting. I'm a bit sleepy so drifted in and out a fair bit unfortunately. So I'll have to give it a proper rewatch at some point. Suddenly coming back from from brief trips to the land of nod to seeing crazy ass monsters on the screen, was a little unnerving. 🤣

Daryl

Yes I posted the YouTube Edit here already last week https://www.patreon.com/posts/67581440 and it will be on YouTube this Friday!

Jen M

Will there be a YouTube edit vid for this? Or only the full length exclusive for patreon?thx. Awesome channel! Feels like I get to view some of my favs again for the first time through another person's eyes.

Sean S

Oh nice! I'll add those to my list 👍👍

Jen M

Lol I had no idea what they were doing!!

Jen M

The Thing imo is the greatest horror movie of all time. John Carpenter the master of horror - extra props to him for doing most of his own music as well. Dudes a Rockstar. Big Trouble in Little China might be the most bonkers weird fun entertaining movie of all time. Breakdown is such a great 90s action thriller. And Death Proof is such a bad ass flick, Russell playing such a different character. Death Proof with such a n awesome cast too with Rosario Dawson and Zoe Bell.

Sean S

The John Carpenter and Kurt Russell Holy Trinity - The Thing, Big Trouble and Escape from NY ... plus their other 2 78's Elvis bio-pic and Escape from LA .

Sean S

Great reactions, Jen! I just love watching reactors at the beginning of the movie decrying the Norwegians shooting at the dog!

Miles E Coburn

Lol I have a weird horror tolerance-- if it's realistic and I think it could happen to me I'm scared of it lol... the chances of me being in Alaska with an alien The Thing are pretty remote lol but a person slashing other people-- that happens! 😱😱😱

Jen M

LOL I'm still scared!!

Jen M

The effects really reminded me of Werewolf!! 👍

Jen M

LOL I would've totally done the same thing if I had been eating! 🤣🤣

Jen M

Hey Jen, if I told you that there was a love story where the guy chases the girl and kissing was involved and that movie was Halloween would you watch it?!? 🤔😁

Rick Trujillo

Thanks Matt. I knew I was close. Btw, I find it amusing that Jen can take on The Thing but not ready for Halloween 😂😂

Rick Trujillo

Close, he worked on the Howling. The first person he worked for, Rick Baker, did An American Werewolf in London around the same time as the howling.

MattN

If I’m not mistaken, Rob Bottin also did the effects for An American Werewolf in London and was King Kong in the 70’s remake

Rick Trujillo

Hey Jen! So glad you enjoyed this one. I would say that the only other movie that compares with this as far as practical effects would be The Fly. As far as the dogs, just tell yourself that they weren’t real. As a side note, my mom threw a hot dog up in the air at the movies during the infamous blood test scene 🤣🤣🤣

Rick Trujillo

100 percent agree! This is one of those alien/monster movies that make you feel happy you discovered it immediately after the first watch!

Jeremy Vickers

Oh I wish I was brave enough for Halloween, but not there yet!

Jen M

He's super talented-- really blew my mind with the grossness lol!!

Jen M

Lolll I know, it's crazy I haven't seen a Kurt Russell movie... but I've seen tons of Goldie Hawn movies!?!? Lol Thanks for the suggestions!

Jen M

Ohh haven't heard of that one 👍

Jen M

Thanks Jeremy, great suggestions! 👍

Jen M

I don't have as much time for gaming as I'd like! Last thing I played through was Hitman series and I loved it!! How about you?

Jen M

I love that you made the makeup the low-key mvp. This movie's make up effects were done by a 22 year old that set the standard for special make-up effects, Rob Bottin. He really led the way and set the standard for a lot.

MattN

“Never seen a Kurt Russell movie…” Ok first off let me collect myself after feeling like my soul was ripped out of my body. Ok I,’m good now. Jen, you have taken your first step into the world of Kurt Russell and you definitely need to keep going, here’s a few suggestions…. Escape From New York Big Trouble In Little China Tombstone Breakdown Death Proof Miracle Executive Decision Soldier Stargate Tango & Cash Backdraft He’s got many others but these are the best ones I can recommend off the top of my head.

Oh..."Slither" (2006) is a really good sci fi/horror flick. It's another one with great practical make-up and visual effects. And was directed by James Gunn. 👍

Mr. Writhms

Alien/Monster movies: The Critters movie series a bit scary/cheesy but I like them. Have you thought about the Universal Monster movies? Dracula, Frankenstein, the Wolfman, the invisible man, and one of my favorite movies of all time the Creature from the Black Lagoon just to name a few. They might be fun. If you have no further plans on watching aliens 345 whatever… How about Prometheus and Aliens Covenant the two modern prequels to the alien series? The Riddick movies with Vin Diesel starting with Pitch Black!! Those films have tons of Alien Monsters. Awesome films too. Thanks for everything you do!

Jeremy Vickers

Very cool referencing Mass Effect with Kieth David! What other stuff are you into? It never occurred to me that you would be a gamer.

Jeremy Vickers

Oh I want to see those ones from the 80's too! 👍

Jen M

Oh yes! In the 80s, remaking old 1950s sci-fi/horror movies was really popular. “The Thing” is 1 of 3 of the best remakes from that era, in my opinion. You have to see the other two: “The Fly” (1986) “The Blob” (1988) They also include amazing practical special effects for a horrific fun time. You’ll love it! 😁 And the prequel to this one, "The Thing" (2011) shows what happened at the Norwegian camp that led up to the insane events with MacReady and crew. It’s definitely worth a watch! 👌

Prof. Writhms

John Carpenter made his mark as a Hollywood director with horror movies such as The Thing, The Fog, Christine and an inexpensive little movie called Halloween. If you'd like to see a John Carpenter movie that is less intense than any of those, may I suggest Starman from 1984, with an Oscar-nominated performance from Jeff Bridges.

John Walters

Btw, did you know that they made a prequel?? It’s not by John Carpenter and not as good as the original but it’s actually better than it has any reason to be 😃

Rick Trujillo

I’m saving this for Saturday night!! 😃😃

Rick Trujillo
