Schindler's List (1993) Full Length Reaction

Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire.

Wow. This was one of the most powerful, moving, disturbing, emotional movies I've ever seen. It was hard to watch in some parts but so very important to see. Spielberg did an excellent job, Liam Neeson was brilliant and Ralph Fiennes was fascinating and terrifying. Thanks for choosing this one for me to experience, I appreciate it 🙏

Thank you so much for watching with me!

⭐ Special thanks to Producers: MattN, Todd Preble, CBonius, Tyler Gorash, Ed Dunn, Incognito, John Walters, JT, + those who wish to remain uncredited :)

Schindler's List (1993) Full Length Reaction

Comments

Thanks for watching this one with me, such a powerful film

Jen M

This evening was the time to watch this film. I've watched it a handful of times before and perhaps I've been avoiding doing so again. As it's been said, a film everyone must see at least once. I can't help but think of another film. •Conspiracy Which is a horrid depiction of the events surrounding the discussion and then plan for what is referred to as The Final solution. It's as ugly as you can imagine it might be. As I'm always thinking about other films when I'm watching. Another that came to mind is •Hotel Rwanda A film starring Don Cheadle among others. Another horrid depiction, but of more recent avents.

Daryl

Thanks Tim. Absolutely, everyone should see this, beautifully made and so very important to witness 👍

Jen M

Certainly one of the most powerful things ever committed to film, and probably the most important non-docu film ever made in my opinion. Hard as it is, something everyone should watch. Well done

Tim Christensen

It's my pleasure to share these experiences with you guys and I'm very grateful for the opportunity 🙏 This is a very special film and really touched me deeply

Jen M

You’re very welcome, but as with every viewing of Schindler’s List since 1993, I have to take time to emotionally recover. Doesn’t matter how many times I’ve seen it over 29 years, I weep every time. (No tissue, I had to use multiple paper napkins). The gratitude I referred to is for the courage it takes to share an honest emotional reaction with all of us. I am absolutely grateful to you for that. Thank you.

Oh I was wondering about that other man, thanks for that info

Jen M

Thanks for watching with me David

Jen M

Oh wow, I never even considered what the child actors must have thought being exposed to that story. Thanks for the insight on the black and white v color. I knew there must be symbolism behind that choice and that totally makes sense

Jen M

I've watched this film many times and I always find something new. One thing to note, the other man that Schindler was talking to about trying to combine his Jews and Schindler's Jews was Julius Madritsch, he was also a businessman who employed Jews in order to keep them safe from the hands of the SS. Everyone needs to see this film at least once in their life. I still can't believe despite all the evidence that people want to believe the Holocaust against the Jews never happened.

I just finished sharing in this reaction, and even though I’ve dried my face, I have to give myself time to compose my proper reply. More coming, Jen, concerning my gratitude. :-)

Also as for the color choices - "To Spielberg, the black and white presentation of the film came to represent the Holocaust itself: "The Holocaust was life without light. For me the symbol of life is color. That's why a film about the Holocaust has to be in black-and-white." "While the film is shot primarily in black and white, a red coat is used to distinguish a little girl in the scene depicting the liquidation of the Kraków ghetto. Later in the film, Schindler sees her exhumed dead body, recognizable only by the red coat she is still wearing. Spielberg said the scene was intended to symbolize how members of the highest levels of government in the United States knew the Holocaust was occurring, yet did nothing to stop it. He said: "It was as obvious as a little girl wearing a red coat, walking down the street, and yet nothing was done to bomb the German rail lines. Nothing was being done to slow down ... the annihilation of European Jewry. So that was my message in letting that scene be in color." "The girl was portrayed by Oliwia Dąbrowska, three years old at the time of filming. Spielberg asked Dąbrowska not to watch the film until she was eighteen, but she watched it when she was eleven, and says she was "horrified". Upon seeing the film again as an adult, she was proud of the role she played."

I could see that-- making this movie would break your heart. SO glad he kept going

Jen M

Oh I didn't realize that, wow. What a prolific dude!

Jen M

I really appreciate this reaction. ✌ Steven Spielberg said he considered quitting directing movies after making this one, because of the emotional toll it took on him. Good thing he recovered.

Mr. Writhms

As tough as this movie is to watch, I never miss an opportunity to watch it again. I have probably seen it at least 20 times. It's as beautiful as it is heartbreaking. The ending is just so beautiful with the actual schindler jews alongside the actors and actresses that portrayed them in the film. It's also crazy to think that spielberg released both this and jurassic park in the same year. Busy man.

Thanks Ray. This was a very difficult film to get through, but so important we all see it and acknowledge this part of our history. Beautifully made but absolutely gut wrenching to witness 💔

Jen M
