The Shining (1980) Full Length Reaction

Comments

I know it wasn't fun for you to watch but absolutely one of the best reactions I have seen.

thansen

Barry Nelson, who played Stuart Ullman, was also the original James Bond. The American tv series Climax! did Casino Royale as their third episode in 1954. It starred Barry Nelson as James Bond, who was changed to an American agent, horror actor Peter Lorre as Le Chifre, and Michael Pate as Leiter, who was made British in this adaptation. It's actually a good episode and is available on Blu-Ray, I'm not sure about streaming.

Wow. Solid reaction. You demonstrate what The Shining can do to a viewer. I empathize. I am not a horror film guy, but there is an artistry about The Shining. The Shining is not necessarily well-explained in details, but the music/sounds, imagery, build-up of anticipation/tension, Jack Nicholson acting, etc. make the movie truly scary. "Kubrick was keen on using the audience's own imagination against them and, by introducing mystery and the suggestion of horror, the audience can fill in the blanks with their own fears." "With this film [The Shining], Kubrick is able to show that the greatest kind of fear one can illustrate does not come from a vicious creature on a screen, but from within our own imagination. It is the insidious horrors we make up in our mind that makes this film truly horrifying."

Great reaction, it must have been grueling. Shine on , Jen! ๐Ÿ’œ

Jason Scade

Thanks! Lol ya I don't know why I'm so sensitive to being scared but it's not fun for me. I don't mind once in a while but not really my cup of tea!

Jen M

I just watched your reaction. It seemed like an unpleasant experience for you. Iโ€™ve seen others react to horror movies with fright but itโ€™s like being on a rollercoaster. Itโ€™s a harmless scare. You seemed genuinely terrified and uncomfortable. You even mentioned feeling sick. Was it really that bad for you? If so, maybe you shouldnโ€™t watch the sequel. I donโ€™t want you to go through that again. Kudos for putting yourself out there for the channel though. Brave job! ๐Ÿ‘

Mr. Writhms

So many have recommended this I think I will have to watch at some point! ๐Ÿ‘

Jen M

Well, you can't stop here. ๐Ÿ˜ You're going to have to see the excellent sequel, penned by Stephen King himself, "Doctor Sleep" (2019). You've been through the worse with The Shining. Doctor Sleep is more of a suspense thriller. It's not as scary but just as great. ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Mr. Writhms

Lol thanks Rick!!!

Jen M

OK Jen, about to watch this. This is why I joined, so I could give you some emotional support. Ha!

Rick Trujillo

Lol thanks Justin! I agree it was pretty funny watching my reaction footage afterwards lol! ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜ฑ Thanks for watching with me!

Jen M

Have to agree with you on this Jen! First time watching this movie. Itโ€™s okay! But appreciate the eeriness of it. Really appreciate the honest opinion and for some reason watching you uncomfortable during a movie is fun to watch. Sorry about that..lol! Great vibes as always keep it up!

Justin Terry

Salem's Lot was so good and VERY scary. I need to reread it. When he comes to the window.... YIKES.

Oh interesting!! I'm going to look into that ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Jen M

Oh my goodness The Exorcist sounds too scary, for now anyway! Thanks for watching with me Bret! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Jen M

Ya I'm glad to have seen it! I don't know if I could make it through the book! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Jen M

You did great. It is a hard watch the first few times and then you begin to study it. Some great pieces on this are Room 237 and The Wendy Theory on Youtube. The Wendy Theory was all I could think about for days after watching. Kubrick does not make mistakes and when you watch it again through those eyes they become open. Once again you did great!!

So scary!! Salem's lot was the one that really got me. I was 14 and I was absolutely terrified!

MattN

When I was younger I read two books that scared me so much I couldn't sleep for days(or without the lights on!). One was Salem's Lot and the other was the Shining. Kubrick wasn't defined but this movie but it pushed the industry to new places. His camera work with his dynamic shots. sound design, what he got out of his actors... all brilliant. I am very sorry it scared you as much as it did! It was tough seeing you so uncomfortable. But, you can at least say you saw it!! :)

MattN

Lolll it was actually a blizzard when I watched this too so it was extra eerie!!! โ„๏ธโ„๏ธ

Jen M

I felt we needed to send a snowcat out to rescue you!! ๐Ÿฅถ

Doubting Thomas

Sorry I can't be bothered to defrost the freezer, I'll skip this one.... ๐Ÿ˜‰

Daryl

totally a phycological horror movie which are the best kind! I really hate monster horror movies, they are so cheesy and just make me laugh, not believable at all, but this on the other hand is something I can see happening...kinda

Ed Dunn

Yes I agree! The atmosphere was so scary to me!!

Jen M

What makes it so good is just the over all eerieness of it. There are no monsters or stupid supernatural stuff (other than some visions of course). Great flick, can't wait to watch
