πŸ’¬ Am I a lion?

Well here we are, the final episode of the TV series. Can't believe it! Good episode but the series definitely wasn't wrapped up in any meaningful way for the characters we love so thank goodness they did the movie! πŸ‘ Serenity coming next Saturday!

Thanks for hanging out and watching with me :)

Firefly Ep 14 Objects in Space (2002) Full Length Reaction

Comments

Movies with Mary. To this day, Mari has never posted a reaction to the Serenity film. So I have no idea if she ever watched it or ever plans to.

Daryl

Mary? Ozzie Mary? I saw hers a while back. Sorry it took me so long to find you Jen. I won't name herein the other six I've seen react to this. Except the above.

MertzRocks

Ya I'm missing it!

Jen M

This evening was the time to wrap up this series. I did have the episode from Mary late last night. But falling asleep on all three of you would have been next level rude! 🀣 Just the film to go, which I've actually watched more. Really looking forward to that. I'm gonna miss these multi screen reactions with the Serenity crew!

Daryl

There were so many characters along the way I would've liked to see come back! Yes true, I think River probably was watching everyone very closely πŸ‘

Jen M

Oh wouldn't that be lovely!

Jen M

Obviously we've all become familiar with the "out of context plan" gag that this show uses time and again ie hiding Simon and River outside the ship in Bushwacked that at first seems like Mal intends to give them up. But time and again we also see Mal use the tactic of leaving someone behind to surprise the bad guy, in most of the episodes actually. This time we get both those things rolled into one to defeat Early, and it's River that pulls it off! Obviously she's been paying attention to the captain's moves the entire time. What makes this show so great and rewatchable is that it puts so much on the viewer to figure out and largely trusts them to do so with minimal hand-holding. Twists and turns, subtle character motivations, emotions conveyed by facial acting instead of dialogue, etc. The depth that was already there to be explored in later seasons is what makes it such a sad cancellation. In a lot of ways I suspect it was almost to intelligent for it's own good, from the network's perspective, and that had a lot to do with the decision to cancel it. My imaginary mapping out of where it could have gone always left the door open for Early's return. We left our other recurring villains alive and with a chance to return so I figure they'd have brought him back too.

Inara has magic Companion teeth that are lipstick repellent :D Yeah to add to what Miles said - so it's normal for shows to be filmed out of order, of course (not shown out of order, like this one was). It's also normal to have a bit of a party when finishing filming for an episode. The last episode filmed was The Message, and the cast and crew were starting a bit of the post-episode celebration when they heard they'd been cancelled - so instead they had a "wrap" party, which is usually reserved for the end-of-series. The writers definitely had more notes about what was to come, but they were definitely blind-sided by this, very unusual to cancel a show mid-season. Of course, the Firefly community managed to get the movie made at least - and nearly 20 years later the fanbase has only grown stronger. Now Disney owns Fox, there's noises about a Firefly remake, but this show was lightning in a bottle for sure. Hopefully Rust is both right and wrong that time is a flat circle - and we'll be able to watch Firefly again in another life where the show got six seasons and movie...

Thanks Miles! That makes sense that they were expecting so many more episodes, it feels like they just cut the story off in the middle! It's insane that they were aired out of order or not at all and expected to be able to build an audience. I'm SO glad we get a movie though, that's really lucky!!

Jen M

Thanks Matt! No I don't think Tara has seen it-- great idea, I'll mention it to her. I loved getting to watch this show this way, instead of just on my own by myself, it was very cool to share it with all of you guys. I think it will have a special place in my heart because of that 😊 Really looking forward to Serenity-- will be up next Saturday! πŸ‘

Great reactions, Jen! Yes, Jubal Early was one of the creepiest villains I think I've ever seen. Especially during the scene with Kaylee in the engine room. Just the matter-of-factly way he was speaking creeped me out to no end. Just as an explanation: this episode was NOT designed as a "season finale". Or as a "series finale". They were fully expecting to have a full season of 22 or 23 episodes. Indeed, the last three episodes, "The Message", "Heart of Gold", and "Objects in Space" were never even aired in the U.S. I think I read somewhere they were aired in the UK. But the plan was to go the full season. And of course, as you've noted earlier, the episodes were aired out of order, frequently pre-empted for other programming. Low ratings were blamed for the cancellation, but airing episodes out of order and pre-empting them isn't very conducive to building strong ratings.

Amazing reaction Jen! I love this episode so much because it Early was so creepy. Until the movie, Early scared me the most out of all of the Firefly antagonists! The scene with him Kaylee in the engine room, while brilliant, gives me chills even now. And you are totally right, Kaylee was amazing in that scene. I have seen this episode countless times and that still scares me. I understand he was weird but the story I have made in my head(I fully admit this is complete and total speculation) is that he is a very smart, albeit unwell, and narcissistic person who spent way too much time by himself. So, when he's around other people, especially people that don't mean anything to him he doesn't know how to act. Thank you so much for taking the firefly journey! I love this show and it's really great to see someone fall in love with not only the show, but the universe and the crew! Has you sister seen the show? Maybe a collab with her on her channel so you can see what we got to experience with you? :D Also, it's great watching the show again with a better understand of it in its entirety. Anyway, thank you for watching it with us! I am very excited for the movie reaction!!!

MattN

Sorry if I get way too personal. Major personality flaw. Have a great weekend!

Ed Dunn

Meh, they don't do anything for me, even when she was in dead pool. Guess we all have our type. Mine is brunettes that are quirky / nerdy. I am who I am

Ed Dunn

They are beautiful! I also love Inara and Zoe! The ladies in this show are so lovely!!

Jen M

Which I f***ing love! I had (have) a major crush on Kaylee and River soooo.. lol

Ed Dunn

Same! I feel like they were just getting warmed up. At least we got the movie though

Jen M

Yea, was crazy they canceled that show. Would've definitely loved to have seen how it was meant to play out
