Firefly Ep 7 Jaynestown (2002) Full Length Reaction

Oh my goodness-- Shepard Book's hair!! LOL

I liked this episode + was surprised how deep the themes were. The first half had some really good laughs + I was very interested to finally get to see some of Jayne's backstory.

The whole situation of Jayne being a hero to this town through a misunderstanding of the facts was funny at first and then made me think by the end. I was surprised to see Jayne upset at the end + his talk with Mal had some great lines: "It's my estimation that every man ever got a statue made of him was one kind of sommbitch or another. Ain't about you, Jayne. It's about what they need."

My brown coat makes it's debut-- should I keep wearing it for the rest of the series?

Thanks for watching along with me, you guys are the best! :)

Please keep wearing the brown coat. You'll feel better wearing it as the season goes on. Plus it looks good on you.

Oh good I'm glad you got my card ☺ Thank you so much, I'm so glad you're here on the journey with me!

One of my favorite episodes for sure. I can't see if anyone has answered your question about Adam Baldwin yet so I'm just going to say that no - they are not related. Also I just got your letter in the mail a few days ago, thank you! Looking forward to continuing being a part of your Patreon journey into the new year.

Thanks Matt! I was happy to see Jayne showing some humanity at the end of the episode too. Can't wait for the next ep! :)

Yay! So glad to see you back on the dash! Great reaction Jen! One of the reasons I love this show, especially in the limited run it unfortunately was relegated to, is that I can't think of a single throw away episodes. You know, if it wasn't there it would really affect the overarching narrative or story. Jaynestown is my least favorite episode. That doesn't mean I don't like it but, sometimes it isn't necessary(albeit a fun one). That is until the last few minutes which is a huge moment for Jayne's character. Up until this point, Jayne is just a mercenary character. He is just a hired gun for the best money. But at the end of this episode, just for a moment, you see Jayne may be a little more nuanced than you originally thought. Well, great job, and I hope you're ready, the rest of the episodes from here out are pretty amazing!

Thank you! Lol I'm proud to be a brown coat for sure :) Thanks for watching, more to come very soon!

Ohh that's really interesting about the crew members representing different aspects of Mal, I think that's kind of what I have been sensing with the characters! Very cool. And good to see some more depth to Jayne and a few different sides of him for sure. I think he does have a good heart, he's just got such a defensive wall built up. I definitely have fallen in love! :)

I just watched this. I'm so glad you are a brown coat now!! I love this series. Great reaction Jen.

Nice insight with the bible, believing in something greater - it's definitely a theme for the episode. Here we see that Jayne has a bit more depth to him than we've seen before. This appears to be the main reason that Mal keeps him around, the Captain sees there could be more to Jayne than just a killer (though his proficiency here is another reason too). In Stitch we see the man Jayne likely was (and still might become again). Then in his dialogue with Mal at the end, we see him struggling against that base nature in his attempt to understand the Mudder's sacrifice and hero-worship - and failing. As I recall, there's a comment by the writer who mentions that essentially the different crewmembers represent different aspects of Mal himself. So the Preacher is likely his faith (although murky), Inara his heart, Kaylee his optimism, and Jayne his mercenary nature. An interesting concept to consider. Even without the brown coat and your words, it's clear to see you've fallen in love with this show :)

Thank you ☺ I'm so excited for the next!

A very enjoyable reaction for this episode. You saw that the story line had a thread concerning faith and that's more than others have been able to see. I anxiously await your reaction to the next episode. It's the favorite of many.
