Do East Coast restaurants really serve Chinese hot pot and Korean barbecue in the same restaurant? Cause I live in Los Angeles, California, and something like that would rarely happen. Usually restaurants that serve, both are not usually owned by the people where the food originally comes from. And it is avoided by those people who are originally from that country. For example, a Korean person might make Vietnamese noodles in Koreatown. But no Vietnamese person in the right mind would go to that place. For authenticity, of course. Just FYI, I am Korean myself. So at a Korean barbecue place. I have never seen. A Korean barbecue place that serves Korean people to have anything other than well… Meet. And some various side dishes. Fun fact!: When people say hot pot, they mean Chinese hot pot. And it’s usually served by Chinese, and Chinese adjacent people. (Any Asian country that has tremendous amount of a Chinese cultural influence.) The Japanese have something similar too. It is called shabu shabu. (The name comes from the noise. The food makes when you stir the food in the broth.) Koreans have something similar… But not really. We don’t cook our food. Separately like Chinese, hot pop, or Japanese shabu shabu. We just dumped everything in a huge pot, and then serve it in another vessel with a heat source in the bottom to keep it warm for long periods of time. And yes, we have different words for it too. Some people will call it. 탕 (Tang)., 전골 (JunGul) Now to be honest, I am not sure if there are any south east Asian countries, or south Asian countries who have something similar… I haven’t eaten any of them… Yet.
