There has never been in a time in my life where I've learned this much and this fast as right now. Making these games has seriously hooked me and I am constantly improving my skills. That brings a certain "problem" with it. Everything I create is quickly outdated.
Now I put the word problem in quotation marks, because I realized that it isn't a problem at all. It is just an opportunity.
I was thinking about how to implement change, or if I should just let the old stuff rest and move on. But why would I? Why would I deliberately lower the quality of the game? Time, is what I said to myself. I don't have the time to update old stuff to a new standard. And that is true. But what is wrong, is that I do have that time. Just not all at once.
I can implement changes, better textures, better lighting, better animations. Because I don't have to do it all at once. I can start of slow do things better for future content and then slowly but surely improve the old stuff.
And I decided to do just that. First in line is the forest. When I started out making the foggy environment I was fairly new to working with Volumetrics (The stuff that makes the fog). But I've improved and figured out how to properly light it. Resulting in a much nicer and less boring looking forest.
The next thing that will improve in the future are my textures, a big thing. That is because I've finally begun using a proper texturing software (Substance Painter) that is not only much more powerfull then using Blender, but also a lot more natural for someone like me, who is used to Photoshop.
In the end things will still get better and hopefully even better after that. I am not planning to stop and I am having more and more fun with this.
Now I want to give out a "little" notice that shouldn't really bother anyone. As you may, or may not have seen, I've introduced a new 10$ tier. It isn't really different from the 5$ one, but includes the name in the credits.
What is going to change though, is the 15$ tier. Right now I said that I would provide a special post where people in this tier can give me their direct feedback. But I am taking that away. Right now the only 15$ Patron is Epholos, We've talked in the past and I am sure it is okay if I do that (I am sorry if I am wrong).
The reason for that is simple. I've thought a lot about stuff that I could give to my Patrons, but no matter what I think about, I can't really come up with anything. The game is what I am giving you, aswell as the posts, to be as transparent as possible. But I don't want a bunch of exclusive content that separates my Patrons.
Having a special feedback post was just a really bad Idea from me.
Feedback is important and listening more to those who pay a lot and not everyone else is just impractical and doesn't make a good game. There is a post for feedback from my Patrons, but it is for every tier, not just the higher ones.
