The beginning of a new Game

tl;dr: I finished A Tale of Eden and will start developing a new game with improved code, graphics and everything else.

Developing A Tale of Eden was honestly a spur of the moment thing. I had talked about the idea with friends and then suddenly decided to actually do it.

So I sat down and began to learn. I had experience in writing and as a longtime Tabletop roleplayer  knew my fair share about developing game mechanics. But everything else was new.

Starting in February I learned 3D modelling from scratch and put Ren'Py on top of that mountain. It is probably needless to say that I was in over my head, but I knew that and it didn't bother me. I did almost abandon the Idea at several major roadblocks along the way, but a good friend always helped me get back on track.

So now it is Mai and I am finally combining all the building blocks to build A Tale of Eden, but I  didn't have endless time. So some things fell short. Either for creative reasons, like little plotting beforehand or technical problems like missing the skill to realize my ideas in Ren'Py or Blender.

I was still happy with the result though, it was what I could do at that time. But that was five months ago and I didn't stop learning during that time. So now I am working with pretty bad code in Ren'Py, way too clunky 3D environments and I probably don't need to mention the character models. I am gonna do it anyway though. Modelling my own characters after 3 months of Blender experience taught me everything, but it can't produce the best results.

Along that way I also made plenty mistakes. Without noticing it I used A Tale of Eden as a training ground for everything I learned. Which led to inconsistent mechanics that switched every episode.

So, now I am here and I finished a Tale of Eden. Maybe a bit hasty, the story is obviously not finished. But I made sure the ending is reasonable and fits into the overall picture. I might come back to it at a later date, but I won't promise it. I am sorry if this upsets anyone and hope you can understand my situation.

I will continue, with a new and drastically improved game. I will share as much as I can, as soon as I can. But this will take a while. I hope you all stay tuned for that!

I honestly don't think I abandoned it. I brought it to a point it would have progressed to either way and then cut it short. But your concern, obviously, still holds true. All I can say is that I am giving it my best to stay transparent and there was just no way for me personally, to keep working with the bad foundation I built half a year ago. I knew that the question whether I am trustworthy or not might come up, but I still had to make the change. Allowing me to make a game I stand behind 100%. So I am sorry about ending the game and just ask you, or everyone else, to watch what happens from now on.

That's a shame, I don't know about others but I take a pretty dim view of devs who abandon their projects. Why should we trust you not to do the same to the next one if you don't like how *it's* going?
