Atomic Keyboard Prototype - A Modern Dasher Keyboard

This is a really exciting video for me, when I was in the middle of working on my Dasher terminal a completely unrelated project was forming by some other people to recreate the Dasher keyboard, more specifically from the show Severance. I reached out to them in earlier this year about collaborating because I have the real hardware. That brings us to now where the project is a reality and they are working on finalizing the production version of the keyboard, and I have one of the prototypes to share with you! I will warn you in advance, it's not cheap, and if you're in the US you should for sure read the FAQ on Kickstarter.
This is the first Dasher-Like keyboard I've seen that actually feels like a Dasher. It blends right in with the real ones and the rest of the Data General hardware. They nailed the looks. And as a keyboard it's also very good, better than any foam and foil original Dasher ever would be. It has some quirks for the sake of style, but aside from one big one I go over in the video, I think the final versions of the keyboard will be far better than a real Dasher for people who've wanted one.

2025-10-20 23:09:03 +0000 UTCWow! I was aware of these but did not realize all of the details! You know I’m casting a real Dasher to create a replica MDR computer. I came to realize they modified the front faceplate. I had no idea they changed the keyboard width-makes sense bc of the track ball, but I had not yet compared them. I’m glad I haven’t cast the keyboard frame yet! I do not like the key colors on that prototype-but they may match the show. Also: there are at least two different key cap types on the original dashers. The museum I am borrowing this one from has 3. The key cap style you have matches the one I have. I’d call it an “older looking” shape. The other style I saw there looked more “modern”. Not as curved as ours. I will have to look again at this kickstarter-might bd my best option for a Lumon keyboard
