Why? Well, there are a few reasons this video has come into existence. I was recently given this Talk With Me Barbie doll that is designed to interface with 90s computers and be reprogrammed to say different things. So it was already tangentially related to things I normally cover. Then there is the obvious cultural relevance to the recent movie. And in the background I've been working on a much bigger project that I'm really excited about and needed a simpler video to come out sooner. But the thing that really made this video happen was that, while all the other aspects are true, no one has actually shown one of these working on the internet. I stand by the fact that my primary objective is to show people experiences that are otherwise difficult or impossible with vintage technology, and this Barbie doll has found itself falling into that group.
I was originally going to make this a lower effort second channel video but my plans for a different main video got derailed. I had filmed this from the start to possibly become a main channel video which is how it has ended up. I've tried to give it the fairest look I can despite it being fairly detached from the topics I normally look at. I knew going into it that this topic likely wont do well on my channel, but I still hold myself to my own standards. After having used this I'm both disappointment and impressed by different aspects of it. It was definitely overpriced, but it probably would have been really awesome in the right setting when it came out.
