HP 9122C Floppy Drive Refurb
Added 2023-06-20 18:36:58 +0000 UTCHello! That floppy drive I got for the HP 9836C I showed at the end of the last video? It didn't work. But I was able to get it going again after a deep cleaning which I hadn't done on 3.5" drives before. And I think this 9122C drive is going to be a dream to use with that computer going forward!
Making this video was somewhat unexpected and I'm not exactly sure what I want to do with it. This was originally a test of a new editing workflow for making videos during a stream that turned out surprisingly well. I'm planning on making another update video soon to talk more about it, so lets just assume that every now and then I can more easily make a video while streaming. I think for now I'm going to put this one next in the release schedule, but I might try to come up with a different plan long term for videos like this if the new workflow will be this productive. This is kind of the best case scenario for editing streams but not all streams will be as discretely complete like this one was.

I hope I can get it to do some CAD some day, but the more I research the less hopeful I am about it. But I'm keeping an eye out still!

2023-06-22 19:32:48 +0000 UTCI did the left drive first to learn how, that was the longer sped up segment. Since I had two drive to work on I did the first one without really worrying about showing it on camera and talking about it, then for the second one covered all the key points now that I had done one and knew what it needed. I actually stop what I'm doing while streaming to make sure I get a moment to record something specific for the video now and then. That way I have the more concise type of coverage that works better for edited stuff. So far I think those who are watching live enjoy those moments as a look behind the scenes rather than find them annoying so it tends to work out. And it is *amazing* to be able to get help from knowledgeable and helpful people while I'm live. When it makes sense to I do like to include moments like that in the edited videos as well.

2023-06-21 22:58:06 +0000 UTCI really like the front panel design on that little unit. Very cool! I'm curious why you didn't do the same maintenance on the left drive? Leaving well enough alone? Regardless, this "stream to edited video" was pretty seamless. I did want to mention: In some of your other edited stream project videos, it is really cool when the stream chat helps you out. I think it adds some excitement to the narrative.
