Great reaction Veggie! Don't know if anyone's told you but there was an original un-aired pilot episode for Avatar, where the characters and settings were slightly different before being re-worked for the main series. I don't suppose we can get this added to your reaction list at some point 🙏?

It's a great line and really something to think about, but it makes no sense in this context. They are literally fighting for their lives and homes, defending against a ruthless attacker who tries to eradicate them without any provocation. It is always justified to defend your own life and that of the people around you. This line also only makes sense to be said by someone who cares about avoiding and stopping wars. But this oh so wise owl, in a display of the IRL apparently quite low wisdom of owls, decides to hinder the defending side of the war in such a way that, had he been successful, the very people who burnt up part of his library would gain total dominion over the part of the world where he chose to put up his library, enabling them to burn even more. At this point in time there is no way whatsoever in which his behavior makes any sense.

Lukas

"He was only concerned with knowledge, and preserving it's integrity" - but the integrity of that knowledge was never threatened by the Gaang. He seems to apply some strange level of human morality, insisting that his knowledge should not be used by humans to gain any advantage over any other human. The only reason for him to care about that would be that he fears another attack / destruction of his knowledge. So I'd understand him sinking the library, but not why he tries to keep the Gaang inside.

There’s something about this season that makes me feel warm inside although animation wise season 3 is my favorite, but this seasons story telling is unlike any other in my opinion and it’ll always be my favorite.

Zhao would be so happy knowing he ruined Wan Shi Tong's Library for the Gaang (insert a very Starkid "THANKS Zhao"). This episode breaks my heart, firstly because the library gets lost forever (I legit get sad sometimes when I think about the library at Alexandria), but omg Appa's capture just hurts sooooo badly. Toph giving her all but being unable to save him AND the group, Aang losing his best friend who's been with him since his Air Temple days. Ugh it's just so painful, this show doesn't pull punches and that's part of why it's so good.

Wan Shi Tong is my favorite of the spirits we see in the show. As you noticed, he doesn't operate on our moral compass. He was only concerned with knowledge, and preserving it's integrity. As a matter of fact, none of the spirits we see operate on a human moral compass: Hei Bai was only concerned with his forest that was burned down The Ocean Spirit was only concerned with keeping balance with the Moon Spirit Even Koh The Face Stealer's main concern has something to do with showing emotion, not 'good vs evil'. He is never actually described as evil, only "very dangerous", and he still willingly gives Aang vital information.

This episode is best example of a disability joke funny without offensive. When the disabled character saying it. Still it likely wouldn´t fly with today´s writers. And expect Toph doing it CONSTANTLY. While Iroh is mostly wise, and funny while being so, Toph is a wisecracking rebel. Instant favorites for fans like me.

What I also really love about the situation with Toph is that she'd just explained to Appa that she can't see very clear in the desert before they got attacked. So that immediately explained why she didn't wipe the floor with the sandbenders but instead wasn't even able to properly hit them.😢 Also: I see there is a fellow RWBY-connoisseur here and I approve!😊

I feel so bad for Toph. There really was no good option for her, and she tried so so hard! I love this episode though. I kinda understand the professor dude, hopefully Wan Shi Tong understands how much of a kindred spirit he is and doesn't bury him in sand but let's him read until he dies. Also, this episode is the starting point of one of my favorite mini arcs, and I'm pretty sure that next episode has my absolute favourite bit in all of Avatar (including Korra)! People, who say that trailers nowadays are not spoilers, are wild! A trailer is supposed to tell you the vibe of the movie/series and give you some hooks, so you want to know more about the story. Trailers nowadays? They give you the best scenes, often tell you the whole story, and more often than not spoil the big twist (looking at you Marvel and the latest Cpt America! I didn't even watch the trailer, but people angry-ranted about it so much that I got spoiled, and it made a pretty good movie kinda meh...) There is a reason, why I don't watch trailers anymore - and they used to be one of my favourite parts of going to the movies, watching the trailers before the movie started! Seriously, the best example of what a trailer ought to be are the 4 RWBY trailers. They don't give you shit! But they make you exited, you want to know more, you want to understand what is going on: so you watch the show to find out! And then it gives you one of the best world building in indie entertainment and better fight choreography than all of Hollywood combined... but that's another discussion... Trailers nowadays spoil everything, don't watch them!

Woo the Library is one of my favourite episodes in the whole show. A brilliant idea the library of all knowledge ran by a spirit it would be an amazing Indianna Jones film. Love Won shi tong (spelt wrong), his serpentine owl design is great but his perspective is interesting it is nice to have another antagonist that is not a villain his motivation and reasoning makes sense. "Do you think your the first to believe their war was justified" is a great line

James McCarthy

Such a great episode, I loved how happy you were about it through the majority as I knew what was coming lol. I also love wan shi tong, hes so cool, think hes my favorite spirit we ever meet. I love his memes too, theres one thats like 'when they tell you something you didnt know' and him saying 'I did not know this' its so stupid but it cracks me up everytime I see it. Appa is the most important person to Aang, he has also been the key to our gangs survival a lot of the time, how do you think they will do without him?

Cari Ann

And also DO NOT look at the korra intro, and stay away from the movie, it will spoil something major, dont do it. And as you Said in the start, toph is one of the major things you get spoiled from looking at korra intro and movie. But there is still atleast one major

Well I feel like this is the point, or maybe zuko alone, but one of thode i feel like is where the story really begins to get really good
