Movie Watcher Reads Harry Potter For the First Time! - Order of the Phoenix Chapters 15 & 16!

Later than intended, we are back to the two chapters! So sorry about the delay on this one, guys! I'll try to make sure to get the Book Club post out tomorrow to give you all time!!

Today we discuss podcasts, Nasal Rinse kits, pineapple on pizza, a Sci-Fi Museum and for a reason not even I understand - 'Jogging' by Brian Murphy! We also put some time aside to talk about EXTREME SASSY POTTER, and EVEN SASSIER McGonagall!

As always, I really enjoyed hearing all your thoughts in the Book Club! Thank you all so much for taking part! :)

Love you, lovelies~~!

I actually never got around to seeing the Bilbo Baggins song! XD

I love your Umbridge prediction! I picture her as Annette Badland (she’s very good at switching between evil and sickly sweet). I also picture the actress that played Cilla Battersby in Coronation Street (there’s a random reference for you) as she was quite a ‘nasty’ character at times. I think Imelda Staunton was too likeable lol

You talking about strange songs from the 70s made me think about the Ballad of Bilbo Baggins that Leonard Nimoy released in the late 60s. Have you ever seen that music video?

Let me throw this in here at the start, I actually have grown to really like the one chapter per video format. That's what the Super Carlin Brothers podcast does, so if you are worried about that don't be :) My company has an office in Milton Keynes, never visited as I haven't been to England since Jan 2007 but that was my first thought when you said where the arcade was lol. Hit enter before I was ready, will add notes as I go. I do love the movie montage of her inspecting the classes, Snape's moment specifically. Makes me laugh every time, and the music is just *chefs kiss* in the moment he whacks Ron in the head. I love McGonagall in the book though. As for her having an argument in front of students, based on how she reacted to Trelawney in Azkaban it is definitely out of character for her. But that's what Umbridge brings out in people. I think because we have less time with Umbridge in the movie, her taking so much joy in what she's doing, i.e. humiliating Flitwick, is meant to just show her character more, both literally and her intangible character if that makes sense. I wouldn't be surprised if people are actively avoiding the DADA professor role, honestly. Speaking of Keira Knightley, have you listened to the PS audiobook yet? Obviously she's not in it but I do like it so far. Also, this occurred to me recently. Why isn't Fudge the Prime Minister? Why the Minister of Magic? It makes it sound like just another department in the Muggle government, which I think may have been the case before the Statute of Secrecy was a thing. If Lucius is 41 then he's 6 years older than the Marauders era characters, so he would have been in 7th year when they started. I was not a fan of school and didn't do particularly well either, the public school system is not great for neurodivergent kids. I can't think of any teacher who would call students dunces when I went to school, but for sure some who would think it. I think we were much more aware of learning disabilities as a society when I was in elementary school, and were starting to get more accommodating. By the time I was in high school I'd been diagnosed with ADHD and so the school accommodated that. I'm in Canada though so idk what it would have been like in Europe. I never thought about it but it is nice that not wanting to disappoint Hermione is Harry's reason for working hard. I don't think losing points is appealable but this one in particular does feel like something you should be able to challenge. There 100% is fanfiction where Aang shows up in Harry Potter. Lots of it, probably. I've had some English candies recently, there's a store in Mississauga (greater Toronto area) that sells English/Scottish/Irish things are I am a bit obsessed with the Simpkins travel sweets. And I think it was Walker's English Cream toffees? I still see Maggie Smith whenever I think of McGonagall, I can't help it. I think she was perfectly cast. I can 100% imagine that inspection scene with her if it had been in the movie. I dropped science before it got to the point where we would be dissecting animals, and it only would have happened had I taken biology. "I packed up my stuff and right" the sigh I just sighed. It's Hermione's idea in the movie too, she says they need someone who will teach them and then there is the ominous crash of thunder, lol. I love that Harry being modest, for lack of a better word, is explaining exactly why he should be their teacher and not even realizing it. I appreciate that Hermione points that out, and gets over her fear to say Voldemort's name. I have to go do work things so I will continue with the next chapter in a bit. Steve Kloves really butchered Ron's character and I will forever be angry about it. It's kind of crazy that all of this has happened in the first two months of the year when you think about it. I don't think Filch is being tricked, I think he does it willingly. So many *stare at the "camera" like I'm on The Office* moments in this chapter. I forgot Zacharias Smith was in this scene, and just ugh. Not a fan, even as a fellow Hufflepuff. You're definitely reading him correctly. There is definitely an Ernie/Hermione ship out there, Hermione gets shipped with pretty much everyone. I saw part of one episode of the show where Mark Williams is a priest, I was at my grandmas house, and I was like "That's Mr. Weasley!" out loud. She laughed when I explained who Mr. Weasley is, lol. Hermione lost 50 points in PS when they got caught after delivering Norbert to Charlie's friends. I'm also pretty sure she lost points in POA when she gave Neville the right instructions to brew the potion that Snape was planning on poisoning Trevor the Toad with. So not the first time she's lost points. Regarding the "Fear of the name increases fear of the thing itself", Dumbledore says it at the end of PS and Hermione says it in the bookshop at the beginning-ish of the COS movie. Overall I agree, I like the book version of these moments better but the movie did have it's moments.

Yes there were DADA classes before Voldemort!

Now I'm morbidly curious about Fry's Susan Bones voice. X'D Jim Dale just uses a normal voice for her.

Just a quick note on Rons reaction to Ginny being in a relationship: I feel her pain! Back when I read this book the first time, that passage was so funny to me. Then like 2 years later on my first re-read it felt very different. At that point I had been to a couple of partys and usually my brother would attend the same party. Now he kept asking me why I'm not dating and stuff, and made me feel that it is a bit weird that I wasn't. But also at these partys when occasionally I met someone I liked the face of and we danced a lot, or started talking intesively in some quieter corner, or made out - rest assured a couple minutes in my big brother (who is a tall sporty dude, and quite intimidating if if chooses to be) would tower over my potential beau, asking what they were doing! Very soon they all saw someone in the crowd they really had to talk to... Yeah, I wonder why I didn't date... Ron, I love that you love your little sister. But just no!
