SPOILER ALERT! - If you have not watched the show before, don't read the following review until you have! :)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WHAT an episode! It felt so different than the others, like real dread at times and limited humour.

Naked Iroh. :(

This is a great part to the 2 parter! Thank you all so much for the feedback on when to double up on episodes. Sorry to those who felt it should be 7 and 8 together, but I think this will work out well doing these and standalones. :) Can't wait for part 2!!

Hope you had a great week, guys!!

Apa shows up in the first episode Veggi: "Ehh, that thing is creepy." Hei Bai shows up V: "Oh, that's so cool, can we keep it as a pet?" Sometimes I can't with you🙈😂😂

Agreed 👍

God Veggie would fall IN LOVE though he should wait till Season 2 almost here so he can watch Season 2 at peak time 👀

CR Ash

Current Iroh is like Yoda, relaxed and cheeky but also wise and powerful. How much he has that character while a genera can only be guessed.

Embran

Live action One Piece would be a great series to do.

Xeph

I don't know if you caught onto this but that dragon was Roku's "animal guide". Aang's animal guide is Appa.

jolt45

I think if I remember correctly it will be a few episodes like this coming up

Well there is the first two parter this one is not that important to watch in one go, but the ones in s 3 and the finale of s 1 would be Nice as a longer video.

I love how the Earth Kingdom soldiers were the bad guys of Zuko and Iroh's half of this episode. We see the "good guys" willing to maim a prisoner, while the "bad guy" prioritizes saving his uncle over his main goal of hunting the Avatar. It adds such a layer of nuance to the war. It's also notable that Iroh could see Aang in spirit form when no one else could. There were some great creature designs in this episode! Hei Bai looks so otherworldly and was apparently inspired by the angels from Evangelion, while Roku's dragon was a cool mix of Asian and European style dragon designs, having a long snake-like body, fur, and deer horns, but also having bat wings and being associated with fire (Asian dragons are usually associated with water).

Since you mentioned Ghibli / "Jibli" - I was surprised to hear that and looked it up quickly, apparently there is a lot of debate on how to pronounce it, not unlike the infamous GIF/JIF debate. The gist I got from a quick read would be that, were you to read the Japanese text, it would say something like "Ji-bu-ri" or something like that. So if you want to say the Japanese name, it apparently would be a soft J sound. But then you probably should say "Jiburi" and not "Jibli"? Not sure ... However, "Ghibli" is not a Japanese word. It seems to be of North African / Italian origin, where it has always been pronounced with a hard G, as highlighted by the use of h after G. Hence the hard-G pronounciation has also always been natural to me and I'll probably understand much easier what you mean when you pronouce it that way. In general I'd say, there are so many different pronounciations and even entirely different names used by different languages to refer to things, that to me at least it's totally fine to use the pronounciation fitting to the language you are using. So as long as you say "Japan", and not "Nihon"/"Nippon", you should or may as well say "Ghibli" and not "Jibli".

This episode is so good! Next to being a solid story with good emotional beats and furthering the story in a whole, I particularly love the subtle world building they wove in there. We learn, that not only is the Avatar able to bend all elements and is supposed to be the balance between the nations, he's also the bridge to the spirit world! We learn about the existence of Ba Sing Se. Get teased that it's supposedly quite grand? big? culturally important? Something! That Iroh besieged it for 600 days but was defeated. I don't think it was mentioned before, that he is the brother of the fire lord (now we know how he and Zuko are related). They called him "the once great general" - that scentence is so loaded and implies so much! What happened? They called him "the dragon of the west" - you don't get that nickname for nothing! And we start to see more glimpses of his badassery. He was in control the whole time of his capture! And did you notice that he didn't even feel the need to fire bend during the last fight? Plus he was able to see Aang when his spirit flew by!!! btw, your face was priceless when that happened ;) Uh, it's so good.

Zuko is my favorite character!

I called them Chocobo too when I first saw them being that I grew up with Final Fantasy going all the way back to the NES era I often recognize inspiration taken from that game series, and knowing that these two writers grew up in the same era as me makes me think that they probably took a little bit of inspiration from that game series when creating this world because if you know the behind the scenes history of avatar, you’ll also know that they were originally planning to blend sci-fi tech with a fantasy world, which is very Final Fantasy at least in the later games not quite as steampunk as the first six

The only reason to watch the live action versions is to make yourself super angry at how bad they are compared to the animated versions like literally it’s a punishment to watch the live action versions. I do suggest you watch the worst of the worst, which is the live action movie that they tried to do back when avatar was still airing Because it is so bad that it is almost funny to watch. I mean it will make you angry it’ll make you so angry, but you’ll still be like this is just the worst possible interpretation of an animated masterpiece. The Netflix version is a little bit more like the animated version But even that version is just horrible. It’s like nobody knows what they’re doing and they really need to just not remake animated masterpieces into live action. It never works. Animated films, or animated for a reason.

Iroh's siege on ba sing se was 600 days not 60...

Deadshot1999

Okay, The 2 parters that actually should be watched together imo is: Book 1 ep 19 & 20 Book 3 ep 10 & 11 Book 3 ep 14 & 15 And then the final 4 episodes which can also be devided in 2 videos imo

Deadshot1999

I passed statistics so now I can watch in peace. Can't wait for you to see the next episode, I'm so exited! You watching this show is literally a dream coming true

Cinnamon troll

By the way, did you notice that Iroh was able to see Roku's dragon in the Spirit World when none of the Earthbenders nor Katara could do the same?

Flufux

Yea thats why I was telling you when you asked if you should watch them together, the main story is over from that episode, the spirit is calm, sokka is saved. But what the heck does roku have to say to aang, cant wait for you to meet him

Cari Ann
