This episode was bizarre! XD Would love to hear what you think of it! I can't imagine an entire season with these 3 dopes as our main villains, but maybe I won't need too! XD
Bloomin' Giles.. I am now very worried about his expression at the end, but I am SO glad that Buffy wasn't too proud to take the money (I mean... JEEZ she deserves it!!).
Hope you guys are having a great week!
As always, if you click the video just after this post, you may need to download it first. This should be fixed in a couple of hours!

Oh my goodness, who would complain about you making predictions?! They are always so well-informed, and often, very correct, it just shows how much attention you pay to the characters because you can predict possible events… Point being, continue as you are. We like you for a reason, veggie!

2024-12-25 14:31:00 +0000 UTCIn my absolute favourite of all the Buffy seasons, there are some of my least favourite Buffy episodes; Life Serial is one of them. This is one I rarely rewatch, even when I am doing my at least annual rewatch of Buffy season 6. I do appreciate some of the character moments in this episode, so it's not a complete dud for me, but it also doesn't exactly rank as an episode for me either.

2024-12-13 10:57:49 +0000 UTCRegarding the prediction, I didn't think it ruined the reaction, and I like seeing you being yourself and getting excited about stuff like that. I'm not exactly neurotypical myself (I was diagnosed with adhd back in 1975, before it was even called adhd) and I watch a lot of different media, so I sometimes have this really bad habit of working out the plot and ending of a film like 20 minutes into the runtime, and then just blurting it all out to whoever I'm watching with. So I get it, I get the accurate prediction making, and I get the excitement and wanting to talk about it. Basically just keep being yourself and having fun with the reactions.

2024-12-13 10:50:56 +0000 UTCSo for me, Willow did not save the day by bringing Buffy back. She, somewhat selfishly, resurrected her best friend, because they missed her, were struggling to look after Dawn, and wanted help with fighting- with the afterthought that Buffy might be in hell (they kept saying "we need Buffy" rather than "we need to save Buffy")- but it wasn't consensual. Buffy was clearly happy, wherever she was- who's to say she'll ever be able to get back, once you're ripped out? Buffy gave her whole life (after becoming the slayer) to Sunnydale. Now she's not free in death, either. She deserved to rest in the afterlife! I'm pretty confident that nobody would have watched School Hard and predicted that the Big Bad would, four seasons later, be playing Poker for kittens with Buffy sat drinking in the background. She sure sobered up quickly for the "fight"!

2024-12-13 01:29:08 +0000 UTCYou'll always get voices on both sides telling you to keep predicting things, or stop predicting things. The only right answer: be yourself! (and also keep predicting XD)

2024-12-13 01:28:09 +0000 UTCEvery once in a while, this show has an episode that doesn't take itself seriously, and if the humor doesn't land with you, then the episode won't either. This is definitely one of those episodes. However, there is more to this episode than just mindless entertainment imo. For instance, the challenges that the Trio throw at Buffy represent her fears that prevent her from moving on with her life. Warren's challenge represents her fear of life moving faster than she can keep up with. Andrew's challenge represents her fear that no one can understand what she's going through. Jonathan's challenge represents her fear of being forced back into a life that she doesn't enjoy.

2024-12-12 22:05:11 +0000 UTCI absolutely love the way you're engaging with the Trio's shenanigans discussions. :) I think that's going to make them all the more interesting and might help with their reputation during your reactions hahaha ;)

2024-12-12 11:39:45 +0000 UTCI do get everyone's hate for the Trio. They're not my favorite by any means. But I do love the scene where they debate which Bond is the best, and it would be absolutely perfect if not for that pesky R word, so unfortunately common in the early 2000s. I don't have much to defend their presence apart from that. Also I think this episode speaks nicely to my ADHD and autism. There's a clearly established format - we get three challenges, and then an ending. Boom. Just what it says on the tin.

2024-12-12 03:51:42 +0000 UTCI do wonder if they really just wanted to bring the nerd and geek aspect back into the show, thus, the Trio. That aspect was lost when Willow went super witch, and they might have just wanted some of what was lost to come back. It could help appeal to a wider audience, if you think about it. (As a nerd who is probably Dawn's age as the show aired, I had absolutely no issues with being a female nerd. Boys didn't care, for sure. From what I heard at the time, it was more of an issue in geek circles but still not that prevalent.)

2024-12-12 01:28:51 +0000 UTCI love this season but I do hate the Trio. I appreciate the progress it makes more but I never like the characters or scenes much. But I think they are taking their time making them seem completely stupid and harmless. As someone else said, I think while there are a lot of stereotypes, it speaks more to an incel community within the wider sort of “nerd/geek” culture (which is much more prevalent nowadays or at least acknowledged more, more connected, because of the internet) because when I think about it a lot of the writers would identify themselves as geeks/nerds or identify with those communities, I mean even in the writing of Willow or Xander (Joss’s self insert), there’s lot of classic nerd type references. Anyway, nevertheless I hate the trio, they are annoying, they are unfunny, get them off my screen!! At least I don’t think the show is taking them too seriously either so it just feels like waiting for the other shoe to drop? Like where’s this going? I guess we’ll see. Obviously kind of a depressing episode, I hate seeing Buffy so dejected. I do find her weird new bond with Spike interesting and the stuff with Giles too. Can’t wait to get on to the next!! Also, Im sorry that I didn’t say it last time but I believe you Veg. I know you wouldn’t lie, it didn’t ruin the reaction for me, you are who you are and that’s why I watch you. I’m a chronic apologiser too!! I totally get it. Hope things are good for you!!

2024-12-12 01:12:23 +0000 UTCThis is a pretty forgettable episode in my opinion. None of the humour really works for me and there's such a distinct lack of stakes in the whole season so far that I can't bring myself to care about what's going on. The underlying storyline of Buffy's finances is so mundane and only raises more questions: why is Giles not already supplying Buffy with regular payments? Are Willow and Tara living in the house without paying rent? How are they sustaining themselves, and why can't they help out more? None of these questions are particularly interesting, but we're forced to ask them because the show is insisting on highlighting Buffy's money troubles. The obvious solution of Giles paying her a salary is even lampshaded at the end, but for some reason this isn't the end of the matter. I can't say too much about the Trio - Warren, Jonathan and Andrew - but at this point, I don't really like any of their scenes in this or the previous episode, and I can't help but feel it's a waste of screen time for the sake of clichéd "nerd" arguments that are just pointless. I don't like being so negative, but I'm just being honest, and I like Seasons 6 and 7 less every time I rewatch them; a few standout, amazing episodes (of which there are several upcoming) aren't enough to salvage them for me. In regards to Angel, which is the infinitely more entertaining show from this point on for me personally, it's at this point that Buffy actually switched TV networks from the WB to the UPN after a bidding war while Angel remained, so the two shows were aired by different companies from this point on, even if they were created by an overlapping creative team with Joss at the head. It's fun going through the season with you, even if I find most of the episodes lacklustre at best :)

2024-12-12 00:51:09 +0000 UTCYou can often audit classes, but you still have to pay for them and don't get credit. So, it wouldn't really do her any good to do that. Maybe Jonathan got the Death Star thing "wrong" because he seems to be more of a geek than a nerd. Back then, we said that geeks like Star Trek and nerds Star Wars. I have no dog in the James Bond Fight since I've only seen one. It was a Pierce Brosnan one, I hated it, and I never had the urge to see another. This certainly is a weird episode, but with Jonathan, Warren, and Tucker's brother at the helm what else would one expect? They needed a light hearted episode, and this fit the bill.

2024-12-11 22:53:57 +0000 UTCthe title of this episode is a play on life cereal, which is apparently a type of cereal. i didn't know about it until i was trying to figure out what this title meant but it was super popular in the 90s! i love this episode. i think drunk buffy is fucking hilarious, and i like that we have this very light hearted episode which underneath shows how unsure buffy is about her life. the episode is bizarre and unfocused because buffy's life right now is bizarre and unfocused. though it can lay it on a little thick with the nerd thing ("we could stay up all night if we wanted!") i don't think its goal is to make fun of nerds. i think its goal is to make fun of incels and show that there is an unfortunate phenomena of one being a pipeline to the other (this is in no way supposed to be bashing nerd culture, i just mean that in a lot of spaces considered nerdy like the gaming community or reddit there's a trend of people going down a very misogynistic or alt right pipeline) this is my favorite season. it's VERY different to the others so i understand why it's derisive but i love it so so so much. if i was a buffy season i would be season 6. i really identify with it. the demons at the construction site would be a pretty weak attempt to take buffy out, but their goal is to learn her weaknesses, reaction times, fighting skills, etc. i don't get xander's anger. sure, they wouldn't have been there if it wasn't for buffy, but she can't do anything about it. is she just supposed to never go anywhere? never get a job? he let her come work there, he knows crazy things happen around her, he knew the risk. i understand not having her continue to work there, especially since the crew now hates her and will make working difficult, but to act like she has any control over it? that she's in any way responsible? she's having a hard enough time being the slayer without her friends getting upset with her over it. i try to be happy that giles is giving buffy money but it just makes me angry that he hasn't been doing that all along. she deserves to be paid, and we all know the watchers council won't do it, but i expect better of giles. he has his librarian pay, watcher pay, backpay from the council from when he was fired, and magic box pay. he should be giving her a salary. that responsibility is on him. he acts like he's doing her a favor by giving her the check and it makes me wanna punch him square in the nose
