####### EPISODE SPOILER REVIEW BELOW! APPARENTLY SOME OF YOU ARE WATCHING FOR THE FIRST TIME ALONG SIDE ME, SO PLEASE DON'T READ BEYOND THIS POINT UNTIL YOU HAVE SEEN THE EPISODE YOURSELF! ######
------
I ASKED for stupid - I GOT stupid!
We definitely needed a more... 'silly' episode after the last 2 Angel eps, and this did NOT disappoint! XD Great to have our first 'Cordie & Doyle' episode! And loving seeing 'comical' Angel back too! XD
Oh! About Aura - I was rattling my brains while recording who it was, and I half thought (but didn't say it) it was the gal whose locker the body is found in in the very first Buffy episode, and it is! :)
I also work out RIGHT AT THE END why the episode is called what it is XD (at least... I think I did).
Oh! If you have any more suggestions for 'Angel Bingo', let me know (I think Angel getting is top off will be an addition to it)! Maybe we can put together a Buffy one, too! XD
Hope you guys are having a great weekend!
As always, if you click the video just after this post, you may need to download it first. This should be fixed in a couple of hours!

I've always thought this was one of the more re watchable episodes from season 1 although the 'old lady smell line ' from cordy when the woman was only 57 stings a bit more twenty plus years later lol

2023-11-17 15:06:58 +0000 UTCI want to preface this by saying that I am enjoying Angel but.. I didn’t really like this episode. I was into it at the start, and I don’t mind a silly episode at all. I really liked the parts with Doyle, I found that really interesting and seems like a slow burn on learning more about his character. I also wanted so badly to get more of Cordelia’s character but (I really don’t want to seem mean, I’m just voicing my opinion on it) I just felt like Charisma’s performance was quite weak and didn’t sell me on the scary element of it. To explain, I always thought the idea of Cordelia as the main character like instead of Buffy, would be so interesting. Or if Charisma had played Buffy or something. I was always wanting more from that character. But now, I don’t feel like the actor could’ve pulled off all those emotional or terrifying scenes convincingly which is genuinely disappointing :( after all my wishing for more Cordelia. When Cordelia was upset and freaking out at the end, it just seemed too melodramatic and took me right out of the episode. I think she dominates with snarky comments and comedic timing but when it came to the serious scenes at the end of this episode, it was not landing for me. Especially paired with the silly writing of her switching from scared to badass at the word bitch, the importance of it just seemed hollow and when accompanied by the ridiculousness of the talcum powder ghost, I was not feeling moved in any way. With Angel and BTVS, even when it’s ridiculous or stupid at times, it has some emotional beat or payoff or some kind of lesson to tie up the end that is serious or relevant or self aware or well-written which makes the silly stuff less important but this just didn’t work for me. Loved all the other scenes though but the ending kinda ruined it. Maybe I’ve misjudged the actor!! Hopefully I’ll be proved wrong going forward if there’s other Cordelia-centric storylines/episodes. I hope no one hates me!!!

2023-11-13 06:58:38 +0000 UTCI've always liked this episode. Sometimes I just watch it randomly just for fun even when I'm not actively watching the rest of the season :)

2023-11-13 03:27:40 +0000 UTCYeah that line about expectations really hit me from Doyle. I have pretty much just met him, but that line definitely makes me want to learn more. I appreciate you sharing that you feel the same way, and how that can help with mental health. That is SUCH a good point about the wall! Hope her landlord doesn't notice! o_o

2023-11-12 22:47:03 +0000 UTCThat is so interesting, Garry! I guess it is an episode that can be seen from very different standpoints!

2023-11-12 22:44:44 +0000 UTCOh no!! I did think that she moved on to talking about her acting career pretty fast! Sorry about that, it is a classic example of confirmation bias! XD

2023-11-12 22:43:41 +0000 UTCThis is one of my top episodes for this season. It's Cordelia-centered, which we needed by now, and it appears to be a turning point in her previous downward spiral. Plus we get a glimpse into Doyle's backstory. I'm sorry, but I'm going to have rain on your parade and invalidate the one bingo you thought you had. 😁 Cordelia wasn't complaining about the work conditions, or anything in the beginning. When she was talking about the thin trash bags that leak, she was merely reciting the line in her advertisement audition for the role she didn't get. Raven Dark is correct about how newspaper ads worked. They charged by the letter, not the word, so words were abbreviated whenever possible. The title of this episode takes a bit of a think nowadays, as online ads don't have that same restriction, as far as I know. And yes, the Patrick Swayze line did *not* age well!

2023-11-12 22:41:53 +0000 UTCHaha, I don't think the world is ready for Father Jack to be in Angel! XD

2023-11-12 22:19:09 +0000 UTCOMG, Dougal! He would be hilarious comic relief on Angel, lol. I love Father Ted, great series. "What do you say to a cuppa tea, Father?" "Fek off, cup!"

2023-11-12 21:50:02 +0000 UTCIt does seem like the silly episodes are either fan favorites, or the universally skipped ones. I personally don’t care for Beer Bad, but I do love this one. Maybe because I just love Phantom Dennis in general, so I enjoy his establishing episode. The idea of sharing your apartment with a friendly ghost just makes me happy 😁

2023-11-12 20:18:10 +0000 UTCIt’s so funny that with fresh eyes you thought this episode was fun and stupid. I watched it when it first aired and I was quite young so I found it really scary! The part with the guy getting bricked into the wall definitely haunted me for a while! And I remember the line about Cordelia feeling like she was being punished really stuck with me!

2023-11-12 19:28:58 +0000 UTCThe fact you turned the camera off to swap hats confirms in my mind that you are hiding a Lego stud on top of your head that they clip on to XD

2023-11-12 19:00:12 +0000 UTCI really like this episode. It's just entertaining but also shows a number of things. It shows that Doyle has given up on happy things, Cordy gets her strength back, and it shows that Doyle and Angel will 100% be there for her. Doyle's line about expectations really rings true to me because I've reached the same point. It really shows it well that some people just decide that there's no reason to expect, want, plan, or dream for better things because no matter how hard you try, they just aren't going to happen. The truth is that for those of us who end up in a life like that, having those dreams and expectations come crashing down every single time is incredibly distressing. Not expecting them to happen in the first place is much better for our mental health. That apartment is golden for L.A. I'd want to keep it no matter what, too. She doesn't own the place, though, so it always bugs me that she just decides she gets to take down a wall. It could have been load bearing for all she knew at that point.
