Anya in the bunny costume.
WHAT an episode!! Definitely takes my No.1 spot for Season 4 so far (even without Spike)!
Anya in the bunny costume.
This was an EXCELLENT mix of humour, craziness and genuine horror! I can't get over the moment when Xander... realised things weren't right. 0_0
Anya in the bunny costume.
Interesting that Parker was (kind of) back! Will be interested to see where (if anywhere) his story goes. We also get a little more of a tease of Wolsh and Riley.
Anya in the bunny costume.
Let me know what your favourite Halloween costume you have ever done! I can imagine a lot of Buffy fans doing a costume of 'Buffy as Red Ridinghood with a crossbow'! XD

Also, Giles in the sombrero.
Hope you guys are having a great weekend!
As always, if you click the video just after this post, you may need to download it first. This should be fixed in a couple of hours!

I would have said the most iconic moment from this episode is Giles with the chainsaw. “You can create a door?” “I can”

2023-11-06 20:56:22 +0000 UTCOkay, I took my sweet time to comment but I love this episode. I’m giving it an 8.5/10 just because I can. It’s not in my top 3 though, despite my deep love for it, there’s just some standout ones. I like to see the individual characters and their relationships tested, I think it’s very interesting. Helps me know them better!! I also just love Halloween and Halloween episodes to be honest. The Buffy ones are iconic and great to rewatch on Halloween week. I would be terrified in this house, I’d be first up to the top floor. This episode has much replay value because of all the good lines and jokes. Obviously the ones you pointed out but also “What have you got in the basket little girl?” “Weapons.” “Oh” and “We’ll back you up on that, even if they question us separately.” Some aren’t even laugh out loud funny but just constantly amusing. Also, I think it’s so interesting when you rewatch how early Xander disappears but the gang and the audience don’t notice yet!!! It’s so sad but cool and well done. Anya’s costume and reasoning is perfect and only adds to her growing lore. One thing about Buffy that I love is how it balances the dark with the light, the horror and pain with ridiculousness lol

2023-11-06 12:28:21 +0000 UTCI've always really liked this episode, and your reaction was everything I wanted. You kill me, Veggie. You just kill me. LOL. I love how hyper you get over this show. You are the pure embodiment of joy. Haunted houses are definitely not a new thing. When I was twelve (which would have been in the late 80s), I went to an amusement park. I don't remember the name of it now, but it was here in Canada. Anyway, it had a lot of different things in it, but one of them was a haunted house called Nightmares. Apparently, there was another of the same thing in the US. At the time, I was told it was a famously known haunted house that was considered to be one of the best, the most scariest around. Lots of people were afraid to even go in. I was too scared to go, but then I don't do well with haunted houses anyway. As for the best costume I've ever done, that has to be when I was in my early twenties. I went to a party as The Crow. I don't know if you'd get that reference, but there is a movie called The Crow, which is in turn based on a comic book. The character is a vigilante, a dark superhero of sorts, and the movie is very halloweeny, and full of action. I love that film, and The Crow is really a really cool character that makes for a very easy to do, but awesome looking costume. Favorite candy would be M&Ms, or Reese's Pieces. For me, the best costume in the episode... I'd have to agree with you, Veggie, and say Anya in a bunny costume, hands down. When Buffy said to Willow, "Let's face it, your basic spells are only about 50/50," Willow actually said, "Oh, yeah? Well, so's your face." So if you wanted that to come up in a GIF, you'd probably be best putting in search, Willow, so's your face. Only, don't, because spoilers. I am so excited for the rest of the season. Can't wait to watch the rest with you, Veggie. Love your reactions so so much.

2023-11-05 17:10:12 +0000 UTCMy thoughts on Zander's cowardness in The Zeppo had always been that he wasn't actually more useless than he normally is, but because the episode is framed from his perspective; how he sees things, including himself, the heightened cowardness and uselessness of his character was showing how he perceives himself and how he feels about his role within the Scooby gang.

2023-11-05 10:15:08 +0000 UTCI like to think Gachnar is a little trickster and he comes back to cause havoc whenever someone summons him from the book, but then he quickly fakes his death when he's about to get smooshed and teleports back to another place until he's called from the book again :)

2023-11-05 00:57:45 +0000 UTCI have the Bunny Anya action figure!! I can now admit she is my favorite character of the series, Giles is second which is odd probably for most fans.

2023-11-04 23:54:19 +0000 UTCI love the Halloween episodes of Buffy, and this one is no exception. They should have kept the little fear demon, next to Amy the rat, though not in the same container. It's always intriguing to have a glimpse into everyone's fears: Xander fears he will disappear from his friends' lives, Oz fears turning into a beast and hurting people, Buffy fears being abandoned and left with nothing but the monsters in the dark, and Willow fears her magic going awry and also fears Oz leaving her by the way she was screaming, "Don't leave me!" The rest of it, the bats and spiders and all turning real, was just to amp up fear itself in a more general way, I feel. I also think bats are adorable. In Alaska, we have a little brown bat called...the Little Brown Bat (Myotis lucifugus), which is actually endangered. I've never seen one although I've lived here all my life. I used to be severely arachnophobic, but it's something I've been working on for over a year now, and I'm finally at the point that I just leave spiders alone in my house, not even relocating them outside most of the time. It feels wonderful to finally be free of that fear! The more I learn about them and their incredible value in the world's ecosystems, the more I appreciate spiders and don't get creeped out by them anymore. Jumping spiders are usually the gateway spider! Watch videos of those adorable little creatures, and you might find yourself smiling instead of screaming, LOL. Anya is one of my favorite characters at this point, too. She brings an interesting new dynamic to the series, and it was so cute how worried she was for Xander.

2023-11-04 19:44:57 +0000 UTCI loved the reaction. For my part, I'll just leave you with my Scooby thoughts: Buffy is Fred - she's the one people look to for leadership, she was the brains behind the graduation day 'trap', and she can be a little airheaded sometimes, bless her. Willow is Velma - she's the research gal, she's got a natural gift for linguistics, and you just know that Velma would be into magic in a Scooby universe where magic exists. Xander is Shaggy - I know you touched on how Xander is less cowardly, but you gotta give Shaggy props. He might be the scaredy cat of the group, but he still shows up, and he's the beating heart of the group that keeps them together. Cordelia is Daphne - can we still count Cordy as a scooby? She's got a great sense of fashion, they're definitely not pushovers even if they're not the strongest member of the team, and they've both got some killer one-liners. I really believe SMG was channeling Cordelia during some parts of the live action Scooby - which makes sense, since Cordelia is the role she tried out for in the first place. Oz is Scooby - he's hairy enough at least once a month for it ;)
