####### EPISODE SPOILER REVIEW BELOW! APPARENTLY SOME OF YOU ARE WATCHING FOR THE FIRST TIME ALONG SIDE ME, SO PLEASE DON'T READ BEYOND THIS POINT UNTIL YOU HAVE SEEN THE EPISODE YOURSELF! ######
------
So my attempts to skirt around what happened in the latest Buffy episode turned out to be reduntent! XD I will just assume that everyone has seen the other show going forward. But like I said in the Buffy ep, it is great to see Spike back!
Very creepy 'kind of' villain of the week too! I can't see a character like that being on Buffy, but you never know!
I really enjoyed this episode! I... am just so confused about why Cordelia and Doyle actually took the ring to Spike. I am probably missing something, but I don't see how it helped their 'plan'! XD
But I really like the sentiment that Angel gives at the end of the episode, about why he shouldn't use the ring. That really, REALLY didn't last long, huh? XD
Hope you guys are having a great weekend!
As always, if you click the video just after this post, you may need to download it first. This should be fixed in a couple of hours!

LOL, I know one of the shows to which you are referring! I'm re-watching TVD presently with another reactor, and yeah...daylight rings. 🤣

2023-11-01 22:46:42 +0000 UTCWhen Rachel misunderstands Angel and thinks he's talking about religion, he says "not that kind of faith, I mean faith in yourself". You know, faith to stay strong and trust herself to not give in. Because Lenny doesn't hunt her down, she's the one who keeps going back to him; she needs to make a change.

2023-10-30 22:32:07 +0000 UTCMy impression of why they brought the ring is, when they went to get Angel, they thought the situation might turn into a worst case scenario, in which case, they'd have to give Spike the ring in order to trade it for Angel. I think they threw the ring so that either Angel could get it, or so that Spike would be so distracted by getting it that they could escape with Angel. When Cordy had the crossbow, Spike got in her head and made her think she couldn't shoot fast enough before he attacked, so it would make sense that she didn't show up with one later. Likely Doyle thought he wouldn't do much better. He said before he's not good at fighting like Angel is, so I assume he's not a big weapons guy. About when Angel was talking to Rachel about having Faith. When she asked him if he was one of those religious guys, he said he meant for her to find faith in herself. You said you didn't know what he really meant by that. My impression was this. Rachel said she ends up calling Lenny and taking him back because it's almost like she's addicted to him. It's good for a while before it goes bad again. The implication there, I think, is that she didn't believe she could live without him. She didn't have faith in herself that she could get along without him and be alone. I really like this episode, Veggie, so I'm glad you did too. I love these reactions so much!

2023-10-30 03:38:49 +0000 UTCI suppose this explains the Slayerthingy order, although I presume this must have aired after the episode? At least you remember the plot, unlike me who watched this years after the Buffy ep and was rather lost 🤣

2023-10-29 23:49:56 +0000 UTCAlso as a tag on to angel being darker and buffy being more teen like to remember buffy started with an older teen audience but by time it came to angel they would be in early 20s the core viewers and they wanted to appeal to the audience

2023-10-29 22:04:10 +0000 UTCOf course he doesn't trust himself in case he becomes Angelus again, but he really didn't feel he could achieve his proper atonement by being able to cheat. (Other vampire shows had no such problem using a cheat ring.)

2023-10-29 21:46:55 +0000 UTCYes, Angel is a darker show than Buffy, IMO. Although they did have some torture on Buffy (Angelus hurting Giles, for example), they didn't show it quite to the extent of this episode on Angel. Many of the themes in Angel will be "darker" than what you've seen so far on Buffy. One reason that might be is that Buffy in its first 3 seasons is more teen-oriented, given that it mostly centers around high school and teenagers, including the main protagonist herself. By its fourth season, it's beginning to mature along with its original audience, and you may see a darker aspect to it going forward. Angel starts right out as an adult-oriented, mature show with a primarily adult audience. Basically, I don't think that when it aired, it appealed to teenagers in the way that the Buffy series did. An Albert Fish type as a vampire is just...*SHUDDER*. That's a special kind of creep. Good riddance, Marcus, LOL.

2023-10-29 21:31:35 +0000 UTCThe whole idea behind the ring came about for how logistically difficult it was to have a show where the main protagonist can't go out in sunlight, and was offered as a solution...but in the end, they decided not to use it in spite of that.

2023-10-29 18:44:54 +0000 UTCSuch a good episode, 8/10. My favorite 100% has to be Spike at the beginning. I think they either just didn't think the plan through and realize they didn't need the actual ring or thought that somehow if they didn't bring it, Angel would definitely end up dead. Oh, Doyle's character on "Roseanne" didn't have his Irish accent. He played Mark, Becky's man. I only mention it because I remember watching this for the first time and thinking that he looked really really familiar but couldn't figure out from where until I just looked it up. Having it set mainly after dark doesn't seem at all to be a problem to me. A lot happens in L.A. after dark. Also, Angel wouldn't be that odd of a name. A number of people, mainly women and Hispanic males have that name. For the male faction, a lot would pronounce it Ahn-hel (ish), but it wouldn't stand out as abnormal at all.
