Angel Saturdays! Season 1 Episode 1 First Time Reaction!

I hadn't seen Angel before (and neither had I seen more than the first 1.5 season of Buffy for that part) so I didn't know what to expect. But I have to say the prospect of getting to see Cordy and Angel team up has me hooked already!😅 Looking forward to experiencing this (as well as Buffy) alongisde with you :)

Absolutely love this, I hated Buffy but loved angel (maybe because David Boreanaz is a favorite actor of mine. If you have not seem him in the show bones you should definitely consider watching it)

Fun fact, David boreanaz that plays angel was originally offered the role of batman in the Christopher Nolan trilogy but it conflicted with with his scedule so it went to Christian bale

Hi Garfnob! I say in the announcement video from a couple of days ago that now we are starting Angel, I will be doing my best to ALSO get people that aren’t into Buffy other stuff (Potter, LotR, etc). So you should get some other series soon! :)

I like Angel way more than Buffy, so this is exciting. It's just got a different feel, and no Buffy character, so it's more enjoyable for me. My favorite part is when Cordelia gets all excited that Angel's going to kick Russell's ***.

As far as the credits go I think Buffgel (?) did a reasonable job of not spoiling things, CC aside- most of the footage came from previous episodes or, in the case of Angel S1, the pitch tape. I guess it was unavoidable for the pilot episode, but then again I watched Veronica Mars recently and that started its debut without the intro sequence so...maybe industry practices changed? 🤷‍♂️

You have no idea how happy I am that you enjoyed this episode so much! I love Buffy, but Angel has my heart. It's a shame the video player skipped a few scenes, but you didn't miss much, and like you said you were still able to get the gist of what happened. In regard to the feel of the show being more high budget, I've always felt that Angel was much more cinematic in its approach: no future spoilers, but the quality of stunts and cinematography in this show increased exponentially with each season, while I don't think the same can be said of Buffy in my opinion. Also, yes I love the Angel theme; gothic cellos and electric guitar? Hell yes! Anyway, sorry about the ramble - can't wait for next week! 💜

I am officially, properly watching Angel with you for the first time!! Despite knowing almost everything important that happens in the story anyway and seeing a handful of key episodes, I am interested in watching along with you. I think Angel season 1 is an upgrade from Buffy season 1 in terms of production etc but that’s the advantage that Angel had coming from a popular show whereas Buffy took some time to gain its own standing and I’m sure that’s reflected in the budget and vision each show started with. Not saying they didn’t have their own challenges that come with being a spin-off but they wouldn’t have had to struggle with some of the initial growing pains. I find it so interesting how shows used to operate, often spoiling big twists and cliffhangers as part of the promo for the next episode or season just to make sure viewers came back. I’ve seen it countless times in old Buffy promo I’ve watched 😂 it’s actually kind of insane how some of Buffy’s crucial or important plot lines were spoiled in the adverts before the episode aired, which you would never see today in television, and I’m sure Angel will follow the same suit.

Yay!!! I’ve been looking forward to your Angel reactions since the start of Buffy! As much as I loved and got hooked on Buffy, Angel is by far my favorite of the two shows. I’m so excited to go along on this journey with you.

The "senior partners" that Lindsey doesn't want to inform at the end are the senior partners of Wolfram and Hart, not of Russell's company. But I guess you could argue that he wasn't a hugely important client of W&H since Lindsey didn't inform them of Russell dying.

I am looking forward to these reactions, I really did enjoy Angel when I watched it. And it is those little moments of cross over thar just add something special to both shows I think. Definitely we'll worth going through the both of them together to get the full effect. Happily anticipating next weeks installments.

Alright, time for the show comments now, lol. 1. The demon Whistler from Buffy was going to be the half-demon with the visions, or at least fulfill the role that Doyle has, but for whatever reason they went with Doyle instead. Great choice, IMO. Even a few minutes of Whistler onscreen was enough for me. 😆 I didn't connect with or like the character at all. Doyle already seems far more personable. 2. Vampires must be able to grow facial hair and shave in the Buffyverse lore. Remember the flashbacks when Angel had that horrific moustache that looked like a large, wooly caterpillar died on his face? He didn't have that as a mortal, and he doesn't have it now. So unless Angel glued on a false moustache just like the actor had to, he had to have grown it and then (thankfully!) shaved it off. 3. My one real criticism with this show is the scene transitions. I don't like them and find them jarring. They take me out of the story immersion for those few seconds. 4. My favorite scene in this episode is Cordelia calling out Russell as a vampire. Not only does it display Cordy's intelligence and astute observation skills that are hidden beneath her "shallow" demeanor, Russell's reaction was priceless. I'm sure he's unaccustomed to his --ahem-- dinner guests figuring him out before his reveal. Russell being kicked out the window is another great scene in a very good pilot episode.

Cordy is in the opening credits intro, which is exactly why we had told you not to watch the intro. 😁 We wanted you to be totally surprised. Now the intro is safe for you to watch. We'll warn you when not to look at the guest credits, but for now, all is well. I'm about to watch this with my breakfast! Apologies for deleting and re-posting this. I realized too late that one line could be spoiler-y about Cordelia, so I removed that line even thought it was very minor.
