####### EPISODE SPOILER REVIEW BELOW! APPARENTLY SOME OF YOU ARE WATCHING FOR THE FIRST TIME ALONG SIDE ME, SO PLEASE DON'T READ BEYOND THIS POINT UNTIL YOU HAVE SEEN THE EPISODE YOURSELF! ######
------
WHAT a heartwarming one!! We definitely needed this before going into the 2 part finale! I am sure I am a bit tough on Angel and Buffy, but I do wish they would just snap out of it and enjoy their time together (that is probably selfish on my part tbh), but I love how it was left at the end.
We finally find out the truth with Cordelia, and Xander is a good egg (not very vegan)! Glad that Aniya had a bit of... well... I guess happiness. XD
The villain of the week is pure parody in this one! XD I really liked how it was done.
I should put out a warning - at one point, Willow refers to Angel as a... 'jerk person'. I am so sorry such horrific and cruel language made it into this video.
ON TO THE FINALE! I can't wait (but am also 100% not ready!! D: )
Hope you guys are having a great weekend!
As always, if you click the video just after this post, you may need to download it first. This should be fixed in a couple of hours!

I have always loved Angel's character, and think there is so much potential in exploring him further. I never really minded Buffy and Angel together... things in tv-land are different... But I don't mind what Angel did here either. He knows people, and he has seen a lot in a few hundred years on earth. Buffy, as mature as she is for her age, maybe hasn't thought through what this relationship means for the future, her future. There will probably come a time where she may really resent not being intimate with the one you love and share a life with. And it is also very possible that she is going to resent not being able to have children with her partner should she ever want them. The point is, he made the decision when she couldn't, with her best interest at heart... at least that's what I truly believe. I mean, it is one thing to have the relationship they have formed recently for a few months at an age where these things may not yet be on the forefront of one's thoughts, but it is quite another to be in this relationship for years while growing up and trying to find yourself and discover what it is that is important to you. Plus there is the whole complication of Angel not growing older while she would and the danger their relationship may pose should either Buffy or Angel not be strong enough to not have sex for years and years... But I am going of on a tangent... I'm sorry... I so happy you are discovering this show that got me through my childhood... thank you so much!

2023-12-09 20:09:49 +0000 UTCHonestly, until he is dead / dealt with, I think it is a perfectly good reason to discount what he says! XD As for if I think 'a vampire who turned at 26 should be with a 17 year old', I can promise you are am NOT advocating anything like that. It is hard to judge it from a 'real life' standpoint when there are vampires involved! XD 🧛

2023-09-25 22:14:39 +0000 UTCI really don't think "he's the bad guy" is a reason to discount every single word the Mayor says. Everything he said was perfectly valid. Angel took it far too much to heart, but... do you really think a vampire who was turned at age 26 should be with a 17-year-old girl? (I know she's 18 now, but they've been together since she was 16, so let's call it even)

2023-09-24 05:16:37 +0000 UTCJust to clarify because I haven't seen anyone mention it yet. When Giles and Wesley were referring to being 'Chaperones' they meant for the dance as a whole and not just being there for Buffy because she didn't have a date. I'm not American so feel free to correct me if i'm wrong but I believe adult faculty members of the school chaperone the dances to ensure the young people stay safe throughout the event. Love this episode, Buffy really deserves to have a normal teenage experience in between the chaos that constantly surrounds her. Always great to be reminded that she is human after all, what normal wants and wishes.

2023-09-19 21:46:17 +0000 UTCThe jerk thing is a joke. Veggie has a very dry humour sometimes so I can understand the confusion 😆

2023-09-17 13:15:09 +0000 UTCNow that I think about it, Giles should have referenced Blackadder and said that Wesley was as "thick as a whale omelet." I *love* Blackadder, one of my top favorite Britcoms. Anyway, I think whale omelet would have been better than blueberry scone.

2023-09-17 01:22:06 +0000 UTCYeah I have to admit, as a fellow English person, I have never heard of Blueberry Scones! XD (though they sound amazing, i love blueberries). Sorry about the 'Jerk person' comment, it was a joke! Calling someone a Jerk in the UK is very tame!

2023-09-17 00:01:57 +0000 UTCAlso, I listened to a Buffy podcast with 2 British women who pronounced "scone" like Giles. But they were very annoyed that he says "blueberry scone" because apparently they don't exist in England, it's an American thing and Giles wouldn't say it??

2023-09-16 23:59:11 +0000 UTCBuffy has spoilers for Angel though... And the story sometimes doesn't make sense without the context of Angel.

2023-09-16 23:56:48 +0000 UTCOoooh I rarely have this many thoughts! 1- A chaperone is just an adult supervising the dance to make sure the kids don't get to no good I think. Like, check that nobody spikes the punch with alcohol or something like that. 2- Never knew "jerk" was supposed to be so offensive. Maybe it's just not in my country. To me, saying someone's mean or rude is equivalent to saying they're a jerk. I would have said it's a pretty non-offensive, basic insult. Interesting different perspectives! 3- Yep Angelus killed Willow's fish and if you remember, he was leaving drawings to people like a drawing of Buffy, Joyce and Jenny. He's the artist you're looking for. 4- I don't think the mayor and Joyce are to blame here. I think season 3 set up that Buffy and Angel shouldn't be together. Rationally, it's a bad idea and they both knew it from the beginning. It's why it took so long for them to get back together. And I think because Angel is older and more mature, and generally a thoughtful person, those thoughts never completely left him. I think the mayor's words just brought those thoughts back to the forefront. It's funny, I always thought their relationship was toxic/co-dependent. I can totally see why some people like it, but I never did. The man fell in love with her when she was 15, it's creepy. Obviously he'll never find someone his own age, but he could at least look at adults. ANGEL SHOW: Personally, I don't care what watch order you use. I love both shows. I'm still surprised some people don't like Angel? But since that seems to be the case, I think those people would be happier if you alternated between both. Each show aired an episode weekly, and the seasons run exactly parallel timeline-wise. That was how they were meant to be watched originally. And sometimes things from the other show are referenced. So... I have seen many reactors watch it in the "storyline" order, watching several episodes of one show to follow a specific story - and getting ahead of the other show's timeline - and they will get minor spoilers when something is referenced about the other show. I can think of exactly one time in season 1 that there is a two-parter that needs to be seen back-to-back because no time takes place between the episodes at all.

2023-09-16 23:53:58 +0000 UTCI love this episode, it really feels like the calm before the storm of the finale I could never skip this one. The class protector moment always gets me, really lovely emotional moment. Looking forward to this season wrapping up, it is such a good season right through to the end.

2023-09-16 11:48:18 +0000 UTCFinish buffy before Angel, i'm so afraid there could be spoilers or hints to certain situations. and yes, i would much rather you do book club potter and buffy fridays rather than try and squeeze another show in. Overall, up to you Vegi, just my thoughts.

2023-09-16 11:43:12 +0000 UTCThis whole season has highlighted that Angel and Buffy simply can’t be together (and tbh, given the risk it poses to everyone else, they had no business trying again). Angel finally does the right thing here, and for both of them, not just Buffy.

2023-09-16 04:08:00 +0000 UTCThis is Sarah Michelle Gellar's favorite episode of the series...and I love it, too.

2023-09-16 03:52:37 +0000 UTCI think Cordelia did an okay job of drawing the fish monster guy from the swim team episode? I forget, I'll have to look that up again haha

2023-09-16 02:48:39 +0000 UTCAs much a I dislike Buffy, she deserves a man who doesn't think it's appropriate for an adult to have an intimate and sexual relationship with a minor. (I believe where you live, it's totally different and that at 16 you can have a sexual relationship with adults.) Here, where Buffy takes place, it's seen as all kinds of wrong and is 100% illegal. I'll never be able to ever root for their relationship because of that. This episode is far too much sadness over a relationship that shouldn't be for me to enjoy it and give it anything over a 1. If Xander is 18, there's nothing wrong with his starting a relationship with another adult. Same with Cordelia and Wesley (since he doesn't work at the school and so long as he didn't try to start something before she turned 18). I loved the do we have an artist and who killed Willow's goldfish moments. Of course, Angel (Angelus).

2023-09-16 00:58:41 +0000 UTCAlright, now I've finished. 😁 Brace yourself, I've got a lot to say, LOL. This episode is one I appreciate more each time I re-watch it. It has such a nice flow of ups and downs, humor and seriousness. The highlights for me are Buffy finally having her one, perfect high school moment, and Xander and Cordelia making their peace with each other. Speaking of Xander, did you notice how when the Hellhound burst into the store, he didn't hesitate to get Cordelia safely out of the way and moved to attack the monster? For all his flaws and immaturity -- neither of which are debatable -- one can't fault Xander's courage. Even if/when he's terrified, he doesn't lack courage and is willing to fight to help others even at the risk of his own life. Although I do love this episode and found the touching moments surprisingly touching (not the episode of Touch, though....ha ha), I am NOT a Bangel shipper. The first time watching back in the original run of the series, of course I was swept up in the grand romance of it all. But every re-watch and passing of my own age brings me to a different conclusion. It's easy to fall for the dramatic tragedy of a doomed romance, but it's not healthy for Buffy OR Angel, and although it isn't great that Angel is making all the decisions for both of them in this, it doesn't mean he's wrong. Wilkins -- and Spike, in the episode of Lovers Walk -- came from a place of evil and cruelty, but they weren't actually wrong in what they said to Angel and Buffy. Joyce, coming from a place of maturity and a mother's perspective, wasn't wrong either, nor did she dictate what Angel MUST do; she left it to him to do the right thing if Buffy couldn't, to paraphrase what she said. Wilkins actually tried to have a relationship with another human of normal mortality, and Spike is remarkably insightful as to human emotions and frailities, and while they may have said what they did in order to hurt Bangel, or in Spike's case to mock them, they weren't entirely wrong. Buffy and Angel are not good for each other in a romantic sense, and they are too much in love at this point to be "just friends" like they tried to be at the time of Lovers Walk. Okay! Getting down to the brass tacks: Yes, I think Angel does see himself as a freak. He didn't say "freakshow" to be hurtful. It's really how he sees it, IMO. I almost always hear it pronounced scone with a long-O in American English, not sconn. Dance chaperones don't chaperone individual people or solo students. They are volunteers -- often faculty and parents -- who are basically just there to ensure that nothing bad happens at the dance and the students don't misbehave. Giles was definitely tired of Wesley's waffling about Cordelia. It's perfectly legal for Wesley to date Cordelia. Not only is she a legal adult, but he is NOT a faculty member at the high school (I've always wondered how he managed to get away with hanging around the school so much, though). So legally, there is nothing preventing Wesley from pursuit of Cordy, and they aren't very far apart in age. I assume him to be in his early 20s. Wesley got so hung up on "Cordelia is a STUDENT" that he kept refraining from seeing her in a romantic or sexual way (well, trying to refrain, LOL). Who killed WIllow's fish? Angelus.

2023-09-15 22:50:39 +0000 UTCI don’t have much to say about this episode except I love it, I think the useless and easy win bad guy is perfect for it and actually adds to the episode overall. At the end of the day, we don’t want to see any more of Buffy fighting the hellhounds!!! We just want to see the Scoobies at the prom and Buffy getting her one perfect high school moment that she thinks she can never have because of her slayerhood but she needed to be the slayer to have the perfect prom this time. From Homecoming to The Prom, it’s a great pairing to see Buffy resent her post versus embracing it more at the end and actually being appreciated for it. She is multifaceted!! She can do both!! There is hope. I always cry at the Class Protector scene and I feel it’s iconic within the fandom I’m sure a load of people have the umbrella as a tattoo so I don’t think this is a skip for most. It’s really more about our characters and their bond than anything else. Probably 9/10 because I can’t even look at it critically, I look too fondly on this heartwarming episode. Because I’m Scottish and love potato in any form, I have an interesting (debatable) thing about the word scone and its pronunciation that I actually think about a lot lol. When I say Potato Scone (it’s like scone like gone) and when I say Tottie Scone (it’s scone like cone). I think this also applies to most people I know. I would NEVER say potato s-cone. That’s an abomination. The mind baffles!!

2023-09-15 22:35:42 +0000 UTCI've had 3 dreams of BtVS over the years. I was a part of the Scooby gang, I was a vampire hunted by Buffy, and keeping in the vein of your Touch dreamisode, I dreamt there was a lost episode in the first season about a vampire virus that went around.

2023-09-15 22:12:20 +0000 UTCI was thinking that too. Although, it's an Angel episode, which makes it even funnier. Kind of freaky, isn't it? LOL
Raven Dark
2023-09-15 21:38:04 +0000 UTCI haven't got the whole way through yet, just the beginning really. But I wanted to address two ponderings. (Can you put a plural on pondering? Hmmm, I will ponder on that.) MIRRORS: Safety issue, I think. If someone not "in the know" is invited into the vampire's home, or walks into Willy's Bar, they won't be tipped off that something supernatural is going on because there are no mirrors to show (so to speak) there is no reflection. DRAWING: As stated by another here, Angel is the artist. There is someone else who has bare amount of talent (which I won't mention because the scene that shows it is next season), but nothing great. Oz and Xander confirmed that Willow draws stick figures, in the episode where the faux Watcher was stealing that creepy metal glove. Angel could commission a portrait artist, though, if he really wanted to see himself.

2023-09-15 21:37:22 +0000 UTCLove this episode!! Just got home from a crazy 12 hour shift at the hospital and this is my treat!!! I’ll say a few things even though I’ve only watched a bit of the intro lol. Imagine your Buffy dream episode happened verbatim in an upcoming season. I won’t tell you if there is one called touch… Also, I have to mention this because I am so so so so excited about it. I’ll try to say as little as possible I don’t want to confirm anything (because we don’t know much yet) but there is a Buffyverse audible 8 part series coming out soon!!! It includes many actors from the original story and from what I’ve read I think it’s an AU story, not following the core three but there’s no definite confirmations! I am just so excited!! Because it’s AU I don’t think knowing what the story is would be 100% spoilers for you but I still won’t mention much. When we meet more characters later on, maybe I’ll share more!!!

2023-09-15 20:37:24 +0000 UTC"So I had this dream about Buffy..." *whispers* he's one of us now...forever Edit: About the breakup scene, I think Angel said freakshow to piss her off and make her hate him so it would be easier for her. But he is also big on self-loathing, I think he sees himself as a freak. I always felt the breakup was inevitable and both of them knew it but didn't want to admit it. Everybody else apparently thought so too. But it needed Wilkins to say it out loud. I don't blame Joyce, she is looking out for her daughter. I (secondhand through a friend) experienced a similar situation in real life where two people loved each other very much but ultimately were on a different page about a big life decision (having kids in this case) and we talked a lot about staying in a relationship and regretting it/resenting the partner in the end or breaking it off while there is still time to make all of these decisions. And about the Buffy/Angel watch order, you can try one way and if it doesn't work out, try something else. And by the way, there is an episode called Touched...

2023-09-15 19:59:23 +0000 UTCDon't ever apologise for your interpretation of somebody's behaviour in a show- it's art, there's bound to be different takes. I assumed Faith had grown attached to the knife (as she's not used to gifts) and didn't want to leave it behind, but your thinking she's having doubts about the situation could be equally correct!

2023-09-15 19:42:32 +0000 UTC"This may be a skippable episode for people" nawww I think we all love the class protector scene ♡ also I don't think Joyce is particularly seen as an antagonist but I get what you're saying. People root for Bangel and she is telling him to break it off. But she's just being a mum at the end of the day. I think she's been pretty lax about her daughter dating a vampire until now..especially one that went psychotic and killed people lol.

2023-09-15 19:13:23 +0000 UTCAs much as I love this episode, it also marks the moment I stopped being much of a Buffy/Angel shipper. I really, really hate how he makes decisions that will affect Buffy's life for her. I never had a problem with the age disparity between them because (1) Buffy is not normal, so expecting her to have a normal romance feels overly optimistic and (2) at his age, what kind of normal dating life is he supposed to have? His only options for age are vampires or demons, and they're pretty much all evil. Am I supposed to be creeped out by Anya and Xander going to the prom together? She's WAY older than Angel, let alone Xander. No, if Angel was gonna bother to be in a relationship with Buffy, then he should be in a relationship WITH Buffy. But, no. He's too much of a self-sacrificial buzzkill to do that. lol I swear, I don't hate Angel. Quite the opposite, actually, I just hate when he makes decisions for others. Otherwise, as I said, I love this episode. I love how Giles's reaction to learning about Angel leaving is immediately to be concerned for Buffy and to try to be there for her. I also like the light you shed on the pronounciation of scone. We already know from the episode Band Candy that Giles's natural accent was not as posh... or it was and he tried to make himself sound grittier during his adolescence. Either way, it makes sense that he uses the posher pronounciation. I love that the student body recognized Buffy's contribution to their wellbeing if for no other reason than it meant Buffy ended up getting her one perfect high school moment. 9/10 and favourite quote goes to Giles for telling Wesley he's got the emotional maturity of a blueberry scone.
