Oh my GOODNESS!!

I was not prepared for this one at all!  Honestly, it was amazing and a fantastic concept, but that penultimate scene gave me CHILLS!!

I love that Cordellia is kind of the main focus in an episode with SO MUCH ON THE LINE!  And awesome seeing the Master back!

As always, let me know your thoughts and reviews of the episode below!

Vamp-Willow is kinda badass.. XD

Love you, guys! Hope you have a great weekend!

As always, if you click the video just after this post, you may need to  download it first.  This should be fixed in a couple of hours!

is there a reason you need to have the show transparent when playing through google drive? o wold recommend it not be transparent unless there is a need to. with the show on screen dos not really work to sync win a copy. and some people like me have only seen a few episodes so basically watching for the first time with you. could you not just turn on the transparency on the video layer for the YouTube edit. do not know what video options you have in the software you use.

Lol Veggie, I didn't notice either that Willow transitioned from "hacker" to "witch"....it just happened so naturally🙈 I really enjoyed this episode! Though I totally expected that Cordy would be the one to save the day and in the process learn to really appreciate Buffy as a slayer and as a friend...guess that didn't really work out with her dying and all😅🙈 That said I really enjoyed how Giles imediately noticed that Cordy had something important to say and was willing to listen (and subsequently figure everything out with the very limited amount of information he had) instead of being like "you're clearly confused, you should lie down" or something like that (which I think a lot of lesser shows would have done to increase the dramatic tension). It really showed what a competent watcher he is!

I had so much I wanted to say while I was watching your afterthoughts on this one, and now I can't remember half of it. Even though this one isn't a favorite, it's only because I love other later ones that much better, but it's still up there as one I really love. This is also a huge fan favorite. There's a lot of episodes like that in season 3. Jenny Calendar being in this one wouldn't have worked for the same reason Faith wouldn't have. Jenny came to Sunnydale because she was sent here by her people to watch Angel and Buffy and ensure they never ended up together. She failed, which is why Angel lost his soul. If Buffy never comes to Sunnydale, there would be no reason to send Jenny either. Faith would not have showed up because she wouldn't have become the slayer. I do agree that it would have been cool if Giles and Jenny were still together, if Jenny was still alive, and in the end, when Giles changes things back, he essentially kills Jenny. Especially, as you said, when he has the line about how things must be better in the other universe. I've always loved when shows do alternate universes, and to me, the Wishverse has always been particularly fascinating to me. Emma Caulfield plays in an episode of Wandavision, though I doubt you've seen it. It's one of the earlier episodes. I can't recall if she's in more than one, but she may be. She's been in lots of other things too though. No, you were right the first time--Wishverse Buffy is more like Faith. I like to think that's what Buffy would be like if she didn't have her friends and loved ones in her life. The show has more than once indicated that Buffy is such a good slayer and has lasted as long as she has because of her friends and family. Faith is a lot more cynical and distant, more of a loner because she doesn't have those connections. So it makes sense that Buffy would be more like her without her Scoobies. I always wonder, too, if in the Wishverse, her mother is dead (I can say that because you've seen the episode where Joyce dies). I wonder if a vampire got her. I really enjoy the way this one feels like it'll stick with you, and I agree. The sight of Oz and Larry killing Willow always gives me chills. Talking of shows or movies that have scenes or images that do that, I know there are movies that have done that to me, yet at the moment, I can't think of them. It'll come to me later, when it no longer matters. I won't get into details here because they're spoilers, but there is more than one episode of Buffy that does that. Much later episodes have scenes that, still, to this day, gives me chills every time I see them. All of them are a long way off from where you are now. Episodes like this are why, for some, season three is a favorite. It isn't mine. Season 5 is mine, and I'm dying for you to get to it. But I do really love season three. Oh, one other thing I almost forgot to say. Please, please be careful when looking things up, even things you think are small. This show has a way of pulling in things that appear insignifigent in one episode, and turning them into something huge in another. Anything in this show can turn out to have spoilers attached. Fantastic reaction, Veggie, and to an episode that, overnight, became virtually iconic.

Love this episode, always have. The idea behind Anya I find so interesting, and how that one little wish had such huge consequences. Definitely one of my favourites of the season. Very dark and yet fun at the same time. And vampire Willow is iconic!

SapientButterfly

That’s actually a good one. Although Scott is way too sensible for Harmony 😆

Garry (Not Jerry)

I'm going to do some fan ship fiction of Harmony and Scott just because you seem a little obsessed with those two! 😍

Sorry, I forgot to ask: So, how did you like Buffy having the moral high ground now she knows about Willow and Xander fluking?

Frederique Gillespie

Sorry I’ll just add that I find Spike’s use of shag kind of important to his monologue. Because it’s not a polished statement, I think it’s meant to be kind of crude and clunky to emphasise his point that love is like an animalistic, impulsive, baser instinct. It’s not flowery, he says he’s loves bitch rather than a fool for love or under its control because he’s describing it to be this powerful, guttural feeling which is basically pain and suffering. But also, because it’s Spike, beside his being English, there’s limited options on what they could say without flagging up as swearing while still being appropriately rude to fit his character. I think the speech is a great juxtaposition of beautiful, smart poetic thinking and crude, harsh language that perfectly encapsulates Spike as a character.

I always got the feeling that 'shag' was supposed to be more rude/irreverant than funny, but the writers were American, so it's possible they were off on that. Also, it was over 20 years ago, so it might be that the impact of the word has shifted. Is that slang people even still use? And yeah, vampire Willow definitely sparked a lot of people's imaginations, I think. It had to be incredibly fun for the actors to get to play with this script.

Ashley Evers

Anyanka is a vengeance demon that spent her time getting wishes from scorned women so, most of the wishes she granted would have been directed at singular men and therefore not as impactful or have such wide ranging consequences as Cordelia's wish.

Delia P

Someone mentioned above, I always forget, but Faith’s appearances were limited by either age, contract as guest star, original scripts before they realised exactly how prominent her character was gonna be. But at the very least, we have some in-universe reason now. Faith is disconnected from the group, not answering her phone, probably slaying alone but not completely reliable to come if you called her at the moment.
