THIS PART OF THE BOOK CLUB IS NOW COMPLETE!  SEE YOU NEXT TIME! :)

Here is a chance to get your comment read out in the next Book review video!

If you are reading along with the reviews, we are covering chapters "The Dememtor's Kiss" and "Hermione's Secret"! So if you have any thoughts, opinions, comparisons or questions regarding these, please leave a comment below!

I do have to ask, try to keep them fairly short, like 4 or 5 sentences.  That way I can cover more when making the video.  Also try to keep them on subject and not referencing anything that we are yet to cover. Ideally, keep it to 1 comment each if you can (if you have more to say after commenting, you can edit it and add to it! :) ).  These are just rough guidelines rather than rules, I want to be able to fit in as many of you as possible! :)

NEW FEATURE!! - As some of you may want to make a comment, but not have it replied to by others, you can now Message me your thoughts on the chapters by DM'ing me on here.  If you do, please follow all the above rules, especially avoiding mentioning things in future chapters or books!  Oh and please start your DM message with "Book Club -"!

To anyone that does reply to comments below, please make sure you are being friendly and respectful!  A lot of tone and meaning can be lost in text, after all!  If you disagree with someone on something, keep it polite and remember the golden rule in life - Sometimes you have to just agree to disagree! :)

Thanks, guys!! :)

Hi Veggie, I hope I’m not too late for this – I haven’t really found time to comment until now. First of all, I can’t believe how many people wrote about how nice the scene was where Sirius asks Harry to live with him (I definitely agree) but haven’t mentioned the line «…what would happen when he told the Dursleys he was going to live with the convict they’d seen on television». I mean just imagine the Dursley’s faces. That would be hilarious to see! I also agree with the people who wrote about the difference between movie Snape and book Snape. As for me, I really like movie Snape and think he is a good person who protects the students. However, book Snape is a horrible person in my opinion. Snape's tantrum in chapter 21 gives a lot of reasons why. But the main reason for me not liking Snape will come much much later in the books so I’ll shut up now. 😊 And lastly we finally get to know exactly how McGonagall got the timeturner for Hermione. Which is why we know now that Hermione didn’t keep it and that all the timeturner-stuff is ministry regulated. I always want to scream this at YouTube reactors who are asking in later movies “well why don’t they just use Hermione’s timeturner”. 😄 I hope you aren’t completely exhausted by now and wish you a lovely day.

Hello Veggie, I wonder how many hours will have passed by the time you get to this comment, but I wish you much endurance! ;) So in the book Sirius is locked up in Flitwick's office. Do you remember the (very different) location where he is locked up in the movie? I hope you'll continue playing Hogwarts Legacy and discover the Easter Egg there that solves this discrepancy between the different media... :)

Oh yeah, I forgot about that description during the Quidditch match, I'll edit my comment SPOILERS - I probably thought that because we know from later books that your Patronus can change because of your emotions, just like it happened with Tonks - SPOILERS

Hi Veggie, Happy Summer Solstice! Others have already pointed out the difference from the movie where Pettigrew uses a wand to transform himself back to a rat - while in the book a wand is obviously not necessary (otherwise how would Sirius transform in Azkaban?) But still in the book Pettigrew's first impulse, as the confusion starts, is to dive for Lupin's dropped wand! He only transforms after Harry manages to disarm him. Now I can't decide if Peter's actual intent behind it was to attack his captors, defend himself from Lupin, or he simply wanted to have a wand with him when he escaped. (I always though of being a witch/wizard without a wand feels something like us muggles when we lose our smartphones) Btw how do you think it works with the possessions an Animagus has on them as they transform into an animal? The clothes obviously transform with them: as we have seen Pettigrew and Sirius and previously McGonagall NOT being naked when turning back. But does it extend to anything people have in their pockets? Holding in their hand? If yes, could one grab a hold of any large object (like a car or something) when transforming and that would go with them into their animal form? Sorry, I'll stop, my head hurts. I'll just add that this concept of time-travel, where going back in time does not change the past but everything you do has already happened, is my absolutely favourite of all the versions of time travel in fiction. I was giddy with excitement when reading the book for the first time as everything came together so beautifully!

Sirius is one of my favourite and one of the most complex characters, can't really tell you why without spoilers. Him bumping snape's unconscious head deliberately against the top of the tunnel in this chapter might be understandable given snape had just tried to get him 'kissed' by a dementor. Can't help feeling just leaving him in a locked office with a window was a bit careless given they thought he was a powerful dark wizard who had escaped azkaban. But presumably it was on Dumbledore's orders. Would have given a lot to see Sirius' expression when he saw Harry and Hermione at the window if it had been in the film.

The biggest problem I have with this movie is the way they butchered some of these last few chapters. We already touched on the whole Marauder's backstory they left out. A lot of people who've only seen the movies don't understand why mist book readers detest Snape because they did stuff like changing Snape still being unconscious to him putting himself between the kids and a werewolf making him seem protective and heroic. Yes what we discover later makes him a hero but he is in no way likeable or a "good" person. Meanwhile they robbed Sirius of being the protective one. They also kept lines that make no sense without the book context. Like Sirius asking Lupin if he'd taken his potion that day with no past reference to any potion anywhere in the movie.

I think Harry's patronus was a stag before that night! It's basically a projection of his soul, I don't think hearing about his dad affected its form. But either way, during the quidditch match when he casts the patronus, the book says "Something silver white, something enormous, erupted from the end of his wand. He knew it had shot directly at the dementors but didn't pause to watch -" and also Lupin comes to congratulate him and says "That was quite some Patronus." I think Lupin realized there, that Harry's Patronus was a stag :)

Can't wait for that chapter!! Hahaha

> "It seems unlikely that Snape would actually think that Black could fool Dumbledore with a complete lie, so it seems to me like his conversation with Dumbledore is based on feelings rather than rational thinking." Not only that, he spends a long time playing up his own part in the capture of Black in order to receive an Order of Merlin. And spends time trying to make sure Fudge didn't get cold feet about subjecting Black to the Dementor's Kiss. Whilst casually throwing Harry, Hermione and Ron under the bus, all because it would make Snape's life easier if Harry had some of his school privileges revoked.

Hi Veggie, hope you're doing well, can't wait to hear your thoughts on these chapters. I always liked the fact that Sirius's dog version is WAY bigger in the books, it compares him to a small bear. Makes more sense that he would help James holding Lupin back when he's in his werewolf form. Not gonna lie, I got a little emotional when Harry realized why James was called Prongs, the movies never mentioned any of it Edit: I thought that Harry's Patronus became a stag after learning that his dad was an animagus, but like emmainkeri mentioned in the replies, his Patronus was already described as something big and silver white coming from the end of his wand during the Quidditch match against Draco, so I was probably wrong. Now back to the original comment Since we're nearly finishing book 3, do you have a Top 3 favorite characters? I always struggle with this types of lists, but mine would probably be Dumbledore, Lupin and Harry. Just one more chapter and we'll be heading into the "DID YOU PUT YOUR NAME IN THE GOBLET OF FIRE?!", said Dumbledore with borh his hand on Harry's neck.

" Anything can happen in the next half...er..five hours" "Ullo" Sorry to see you didn't get my officer crabtree greeting from last time, 80'sitcoms not your thing. Have to say that the dementors kiss chapter is far superior to the film much more chaotic having Ron chained to lupin really ups the stakes and I feel the dementors are better herethan the movie having them more human makes them a lot more unnerving and creepy than the specters in the film and the fact they can clearly reason is also an added bonus. Hermione's secret is also a lot more reflective in tone than the film and I think I prefer it there always seems to be a tendency in film to add action for action sake rather than giving us all a breather. Well not long now till you get to the book I've been waiting for. Also a Muggle born squib would be a Muggle. Ta Ta for now

Hey Veggie! I made it in time!! Phew! Sirius being happy about the possibility of Harry moving in, do you think it's because of wanting to provide for Harry and genuinely stepping in as a godfather, or is he excited about getting a piece of James back? I think it might be a bit of both. But I truly believe he cares about Harry just for Harry, it's not always about James. Sirius had already been in Harry's life actively for a full year before Lily and James died. I also love the description of Sirius' first real smile: "The difference it made was startling, as though a person ten years younger was shining through the starved mask; for a moment, he was recognisable as the man who had laughed at Harry's parents' wedding." The last time Harry looked at that photograph, he still believed Sirius was a murderer and almost didn't recognise him as the man from the wanted posters. I'd like to know what you think of the werewolf design in the movie vs the book! In the book they look a lot like regular wolves. This is rare coming from me, but I actually love the design they ended up with, even though it's not an accurate portrayal. I know a lot of book fans hated it. I think the scene where the dementors attack feels much worse in the books, much more emotional and desperate. There's a dementor that is actually about to kiss Harry, and the way the book describes that moment, and the dementor lowering its hood, is chilling. In the movie Harry just kind of sits there, lol. Chapter 13, Gryffindor versus Ravenclaw, Harry casting a Patronus at Malfoy: "Something silver white, something enormous, erupted from the end of his wand. He knew it had shot directly at the dementors but didn't pause to watch -" And after Harry catches the snitch: "'That was quite some Patronus,' said a voice in Harry's ear." I think Lupin realized there, that Harry's Patronus was a stag. Imagine how he must've felt :) I can't wait to hear what your reaction to Snape yelling in chapter 21 was. All I'm going to say about that right now is, he was WAAAAYYY out of line. I'm sorry my comment is getting really long, but don't you think it was an odd choice to have Ron have a cast on his leg in the movie? According to herself, Madam Pomfrey can fix broken bones in a heartbeat (she literally REGREW Harry's overnight). In the book Pettigrew's spell was a bigger concern to Harry and Hermione than the broken leg, and I think it's also why Ron was still unconscious. Also, I love how the first thing Sirius did while he was getting rescued, was ask about Ron. Thank you again for what I'm going to assume is another excellent 5 hour video. Thank you ❤️ ps. that "change my mind meme" is effing amazing. Perfectly edited.

Let's try to keep it civil here.

You know perfectly well that Severus had no way of knowing that Pettigrew was the real traitor, that he was still alive and that he was disguised as Ron's rat. He was knocked out cold before Pettigrew was forced to show himself and when he regained consciousness, Pettigrew was already gone. Severus never saw Pettigrew that evening.

Rewatched the movie and noticed that Snape is basically the hero who's trying to catch Black and then randomly gets attacked by Harry without the trio even saying a word, then knocked out by a werewolf, then disappears for the rest of the movie, poor guy! :D It's interesting how book Snape still seems to be focused on revenge over truth, even hours after the events in the Shrieking Shack. He tries to discredit the trio instead of telling Fudge or Dumbledore about the things he heard Lupin explain, or that he saw the rat (when the book makes the rat a center piece of the scene with how Black is staring it down and how 'the only sound apart from Lupin's voice was Scabbers's frightened squeaking'). It seems unlikely that Snape would actually think that Black could fool Dumbledore with a complete lie, so it seems to me like his conversation with Dumbledore is based on feelings rather than rational thinking.
