Movie Watcher Reads Harry Potter For the First Time! - Prisoner of Azkaban Chapters 14 & 15!

Hi guys!  Here is the next part of our Prisoner of Azkaban series! :D  We cover 2 chapters instead of the usual 3... but somehow it is still nearly 5 hours! XD

I think this is largely down to how good Snape's Grudge is, but if I do start waffling, I am sorry!! I also try to limit my snide comments about Quidditch, I think I went too far last episode.

Either way, I hope you enjoy!  Great Book Club again with many great discussion points!

Love you, guys! Hope your weekend is going well! :)

Thank you!!! For days now, I've been thinking to myself "have I forgotten the similar outrage over the Number 2001?" Draco literally bought them for the whole team during Chamber. If having a better broom was that much of an advantage, then Slytherin should have dominated ever since they got them.

Hey Veggie ^^ Well you said that you would pay good money to see a full adaptation of the books πŸ˜… And today is the day HBO Max and Discovery+ announced their 10 commitment to make a Harry Potter series πŸ˜‰β€οΈ One season per book...! Finally!!!!

I listened to your reaction again and I just had a thought. Your annoyance on the Firebolt is kind of true, but on the other hand, Draco bought his way onto the team! His father gave everyone to newest broom available at the time! So why not Harry? I agree, that they should all use the same kind of broom to make it fair, but since that isnt the case, I dont see is being unfair for Harry to have the best possible broom!

SNUPIN!!! Pretty sure you can find PLENTY of fanfictions with this ship out there on the interwebs. haha! Thank you, thank you, thank you for standing up for Neville! He's one of my favorite characters and he tries SO hard. I hate how much people keep putting him down. He's not making all these mistakes on purpose and he does feel bad about all of them. I can't wait for you to see how much he grows over the rest of the series :) I think the reason Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw are cheering for Gryffindor to win is because (to my knowledge) Slytherin has won the Quidditch Cup EVERY YEAR for the last 7 years. I think they just don't want them to win anymore. I don't think it's meant to be: Slytherin bad! As for them all being big, I think it's meant to imply that the Slytherin team was trying to go for an intimidation factor rather than skill. I mean, they were very physical during the game...

The chapters only get longer, and the more differences from the book to movie the more people have to say. But definitely people keeping it shorter would be great. The mini essay's can be hard to stay focused it seems. I do agree the main issue is the amount of comments, not the length of each. The long comments weren't bad at the start of book club as it wasn't too many comments. I do think leaving it open to comment for such a long time just keeps adding comments. Maybe closing the discussion after a few days would help. I believe he did that for the first book. Which hey, if he did 1 chapter a video would probably really help getting them out quicker. Also keep the comments more focused. And shorter videos then 5 hours.

For the firebolt, I can understand you thinking Harry is getting an advantage since hes the ONLY one with it in school. The thing is most parents, even if rich probably wouldn't think to buy a school age kid such an expensive broom, even Draco doesn't get one and his dad could probably afford a bunch. It was no different then McGonagall getting Harry a Nimbus 2000 when it came out, which was the best broom at that time OR when Draco's dad did buy the entire Slytherin team the Nimbus 2001 to get Draco on the team, which was better then the Nimbus 2000. I don't really think the school can just be like "oh your broom is too good, you can't use it" That wouldn't be fair. I don't know much about sports so maybe I'm wrong. However I think you are forgetting this isn't just a school sport only. There are professional teams. They are probably all buy a firebolt now. Meaning it would be an even playing field. Even if its just the seekers that get it, and maybe not the entire team. So just cause you own one, doesn't mean it's a guaranteed win. It still all comes down to skill. For Draco, Harry is naturally a better flyer so even without a firebolt it's possible he could have out flown Draco and caught the snitch with a nimbus 2000, we've seen it in Chamber of Secrets. With Cho....she had a comet two sixty, which was what came out before the latest (comet two ninety) and came out before the nimbus 2000/2001. Most likely she probably didn't fair well against either nimbus given the 260 is not that fast which is why the team was saying Ravenclaw stood no chance against Harry having a firebolt now. I'm not saying it's fair because it isn't. But in order for it to be fair everyone on a school level would have to be using the same broom and the school brooms aren't fast as I believe they are for teaching 1st years. I doubt teaching on a fast broom would go over well. Which in my opinion, they COULD use them but that would make the game boring to see them fly slowly I don't think there would be much excitement. It would mean them having to go out and buy 14 new brooms. Not really sure how the school makes money to pay professors, let alone buy 14 new brooms. Even in my high school, if teams wanted better equipment they had to fundraise. Now about Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff rooting for Gryffindor, I don't think EVERY student is, im sure plenty have friends in Slytherin but its probably a majority rooting for Gryffindor. I feel its like sports. If you're favorite team isn't playing, you're just gonna root for one of the two teams playing. It's the same here. Their house isn't playing but that doesn't mean they just won't watch. They will still go, they will root for one of them. It just happens to be they root for Gryffindor over Slytherin as Slytherin won the house cup so many times, meaning they probably won the quidditch cup too. They would be happy to see someone other then Slytherin win. One last thing about the password issue. At the time of the punishment The Fat Lady wasn't back yet. So him not being allowed to know the password is harsh. Now that she IS back, she doesn't change it that much. So i'm sure he will eventually learn the password, which makes me wonder....if he does manage to learn it, would she have to let him in?

Snuuuupin! Not a bad ship! In all honesty, they would have made great friends if the past didn't treat them both with such unkindness. Just adding on since I forgot what else you asked me - I definitely think you are very fair to Snape and I applaud you for seeing him with a mature and logical lens, along with other members of staff. So I really do thank you for that!

Hey veggie my dude! Don’t stop with the book review love them :)

McStick

Snupin! I just want to say thank you Veggie for sticking with the book club and giving us so much content each time! Each time it's so fun to watch you read my comment and respond to it, feels like we really have a discussion :D Can't wait for the end of this book!

Kate Bogd

Hi Veggie! There is one thing about Quidditch I just realised has not been even mentioned in the books so far - they should have back ups! I mean there has been soo much said about players being injured and these past two chapters showed the whole team being very worried about Harry's safety before the final game. Well, if it's so dangerous, why Hogwart's quidditch teams don't have back up players or Madamme Pompfrey being present at every match? (I don't have much experience with sports, but when I volunteered at a couple of showjumping competitions, there were always paramedics present)

Gothic Llama

I agree! I think it would be good to be more strict about the length of the book club comments, or maybe disable the comments after about a week so there are not like a hundred of them

Gothic Llama

I just listen to it as a podcast tbh so the length is fine for me. You don’t have to watch it all at once and there’s plenty of time between episodes

Garry (Not Jerry)

Hey Jake. Yes, Hence - stricter rules on the comment length (heck if they’re too long just skip β€˜em) Also part of the reason he gets so many comments is the amount of time between episodes. I think if it was weekly l, we might not get 100+ comments per episode. Just a thought.

Garry (Not Jerry)

The problem there is he might get just as long comments, but now for every single chapter not every two or three. Turns out, fans all have a lot to say XD.

Jake M

Just a tip if you haven't already, try watching the video on 1.5x speed if you're pushed for time. Everything is still understandable as Veggie speaks so clearly. πŸ˜…

Jake M

Honestly Veggie you could take this further and try 1 chapter per video! And.. maybe just be a tad stricter about the "3-4 sentences" rule. πŸ˜† That way you might be able to make it weekly (or fortnightly)

Garry (Not Jerry)

Ok, maybe these are a bit too long :-D I still want the FULL rxns, but if you have time, maybe editing it down to 90 mins also would be great
