Movie Watcher Reads Harry Potter For the First Time! - Prisoner of Azkaban Chapters 1, 2, 3 & 4!

Get comfy, guess! Cos we have a Whooping 4 HOUR Kick Off to The Prisoner of Azkaban!  We discuss English Breakfasts, dog jumpers, Star Wars, the official definition of a 'Cockney', and also talk about Harry Potter for a couple of minutes (this is a joke, don't worry XD).

Wonderful Book Club as always!  I just want to say now, I DO get things wrong in this one.  For some reason I am under the impression that Harry DID use Lumos at the start of the book, but by the time we get to your comments, that is very clearly not the case!  Sorry about the mistake!

Love you, guys! Hope it isn't too cold (or hot) where you are! :)

One thing to point out is that Harry also hasn't played many games. It's not like he's played 50 games and won them all. I'm pretty sure he's played less than 6 games. I don't think it's that weird to have a player who's team has won their first few games but maybe I'm wrong as I don't watch many sports. Also, I think it makes more sense to let Harry go out into diagon alley. It's not like the Leaky Cauldron is a fortress so if Sirius wants to get Harry and gets into Diagon Alley then he's going to be able to get to Harry in the Leaky Cauldron just as easily. Either isn't safe so it's not like they need Harry to stay inside. Loving the reviews though

Here's some amazing athletes who never, or barely never lost. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1074911-the-20-most-untouchable-athletes-ever One of them I will copy here if you don;t want to go into the link: Cael Sanderson Not everyone who reads this will know who Cael Sanderson is. They should, though. In 2004, he won a gold medal in Athens, but that’s not even the most impressive part of his resume. Sanderson is the only wrestler in NCAA Division I history to go undefeated with more than 100 wins. Say that last sentence in your head a couple of times. Childish writing? This kind of athletes exist.

I don't think the magic power of the spell counts, but the Visibility. If Harry had been doing Lumos at the Dursleys, he would _absolutely_ have gotten a letter five minutes later telling him that he was either facing expulsion or would be very _ very_ close to it.

I think you misunderstand the threat level of sirius in context. Of course, Fudge thinks he is dangerous and mad, but they are excpecting him to be a lone, wandless wizard. Mad and determined, yes, but if he were to openly turn up in Diagon Alley, he'd be captured almost immediatly. You mentioned tat we see deatheaters in diagon alley, but that is either when A) They were not known or only suspected to be deatheaters or after the ministry had fallen and if you are the people in charge no one is going to keep you from going anywhere, would they? Remember, no livining person except Lupin knows that Sirius is an animagus, so in their eyes, all he could do would gbe to wander into Diagon Alley, where he would be recognized and caught immediatly. Harry is under the circumstances as safe as he can be anywhere in Diagon Alley And lets be Serious (haha) If Sirius could get into Diagon Alley unnoticed, he could get into the Leaky Cauldron unnoticed. It is right next door after all.

I’ve thought that too! Her parents were far too young to die of “natural causes.” A car crash makes perfect sense, and explains why they would use that as their explanation about Harry’s parents.

Random thought: My headcanon is that Mr and Mrs Evans died in a car crash. If Lily was 21 when she died, Petunia would have probably been 23 or 24. That's still very young to have both of your parents die, especially within a couple of years of each other. IMO Petunia used her own parents death as "inspiration".

Deep breath and glass of water time and another 10 points to Hufflepuff if you made it this far Veggie! (or maybe a double butter beer!)

But she has NOT said anything 'anti-trans' - EVER. All she has done is stand up for WOMENS rights. A TOTALLY different subject.

Veggie, I love your sincere enthusiasm and curiosity for the books! It always brings a smile to my face and I WISH I could have a proper conversation with you about all things Harry Potter :) And PLEASE do not apologize for being upset by upsetting things in the book. Marge is upsetting all around. HaHa! Also, I want to apologize in advance for this post. I know reading is tough for you (even though I think you're doing great in the book club!) and this is going to be a LOONG comment. To answer some questions you had in this video, in no particular order: Harry's grandparents are not in the picture. James's parents were elderly when he was born (they thought they were unable to have children) and lived long enough to see him marry Lily, but both died of Dragon Pox shortly after. Not much is known about Lily's parents. Apparently JKR has said they both died "normal muggle deaths" before Lily and James were killed...whatever that means. Harry stays with Mrs. Figg when the Dursleys go on holiday. It's mentioned in the article Harry reads on the Knight Bus that Fudge spoke with the muggle Prime Minister about Sirius escaping from Azkaban. This is how the news knew what to report. I'm sure that's all the information he gave, so as to keep the secret of the Wizarding World intact. In the book, Harry tells Hedwig to stay out of the house while Marge is there so she doesn't cause drama. I'm assuming this was the case in the movie as well, but we don't see much before Marge arrives. I always attributed the flickering lights to Harry being so upset. Young wizards can't control their magic when they're upset (hence the Marge balloon), so I'm sure all kinds of things go haywire around them. JKR has said that she wishes she had come up with the shrunken head featured in the Knight Bus. I had summer homework every year. Had a book list to read, and a book report to write on one or two books. *sigh* It was awful. I think Ron feels he is the only one allowed to put down/make fun of his family because he is a part of it. Despite how much he wishes his family had more money, he loves them dearly and will never let anyone else disparage them. OK, I think that's enough rambling now. Until next time!! You're the best!

Hi Q, thank you so much for your very kind comment! I had heard a bit regarding the author going into watching the movies, and you guys have filled me in with a lot more detail since. I make it a conscious decision to not bring this stuff up because I want to experience the story and fandom how it was before the division started. I think you can probably guess what my thoughts are on things that have been said by the author, but I want my videos to be an escape from that kind of real world drama, much like the original story was to so many people growing up. :) I really appreciate the kind words, they mean a lot to me!

VEGGIE GAMER

Love the video, Veggie! And I hope you don't mind me rambling a bit here: I'd been feeling really down on Harry Potter before finding your reactions. I started reading the books when I was 5, so I can barely remember a time I wasn't in love with this world. Watching Rowling descend into so much bigotry has therefore really hurt, particularly the transphobia for me (I'm genderqueer). It felt like such a betrayal, and everywhere I looked on the internet or in real life, this thing I love so much was either taken over by people supporting Rowling's bigotry or abruptly discarded by people disgusted with her. I can't blame people for distancing themselves from someone who hurt them, and I can't encourage anyone to financially support someone who's donating to causes that encourage violence against trans people. But I also can't stop loving these stories and characters that have been such a huge part of my life. Finding your videos, a fresh experience by someone who seems (though correct me if I'm wrong) respectful and supportive of differences, has been such a blessing. The books themselves, the meaning we take from them, the messages they do contain about love, acceptance, courage, and family, are still worth reading and loving. You've helped me to reconcile this internal conflict somewhat, and I appreciate that so much. With the emotional ramble done, a minor correction to one of the book club comments: Harry does get Christmas gifts for his friends and at least some birthday gifts! I don't remember off the top of my head if they were mentioned in the first or second book, but they definitely are in future books. Also for the tying packages to the owls' legs bit, it seems to be common practice and I always assumed it was just so they didn't have to keep a grip on packages, especially bulky or awkwardly shaped ones. Which would make it practical and kind! (though there may still be better ways to do it)

Q

Thanks Veggie. :)

Sorry to hear you have had a bad week, Rebecca! Hope things get better!

VEGGIE GAMER

Thanks for this video, Veggie... I've been having a really terrible week and this video has been keeping me company and helping take my mind off it for a little while. By the way, I think the format of these videos is perfect - three chapters is a great compromise between getting through the story quickly enough but also allowing you to go into as much detail as you want. Either way, just do what makes you happy.

Rebecca May

Hi Bettina, thanks for the question. Honestly, if I were to put out a statement on it (I don't know everything but know the 'gist' of it), it would kind of be a non-statement. I think a lot of you who have watched my videos for a while can probably guess what my opinions on the subject are, but when I started this series I wanted to focus on what people love about this story. I know that probably sounds like a bit of a cop-out, but I want to view this from the standpoint of before the division started in the fanbase. Sorry if that sounds like I am turning a blind eye to what has happned, I promise you I am not. If you would like me to go further / say this in a video then please feel free to ask in the Book Club post.

VEGGIE GAMER

I really, really enjoy what you are doing in reviving the HP enthusiasm again, I would also greatly appreciate it if you could make a statement about the views the author has expressed towards their trans audience, not to further hate, but the exact opposite?
