The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King First Time FULL Reaction!

IMPORTANT UPDATE! - The Reaction above is now fully synced up and does not require your own copy! So, PLEASE IGNORE THE PARTS WHERE I TALK ABOUT NEEDING YOU TO SYNC UP!! If for whatever reason you wish to view the original version (which requires your own copy), you can find it here! -

https://youtu.be/_RjCqricn0I

Hi guys!! Sorry this one was a few days later than expected!  Here is my... 5 HOUR video to The Return of the King!  My goodness this is a great movie!  Full of laughs, tears and... well...

Bloomin' spiders again. T_T

Be warned, this has another 'Veggie Special' intro of around 20 minutes! 0_0

Oh! And I explain at the start, every 10 minutes of the MOVIE (not the video) a short video will appear bottom left of the screen to help anyone re-sync if they need to! For some reason each hour seemed to add 2 seconds to the times when I was editing the video together, but that shouldn't affect syncing too much!

Oh and I also include a 10 second blurred one when we change from DVD 1 to 2!

Love you guys! What a great story!  OH! And if you have any other Lord of the Rings things you think I should react to in future, please do let me know! :)

The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King First Time FULL Reaction!

Comments

Love these! Would really love a book club/review of LOTR

Markus Sjöbergh

Suggestion for syncing that is a common method for reaction channel full lengths, is to have a constant very blurred version of the video on screen, and then every 10 minutes or whatever unblur it briefly, and then reblur it.

Xeph

We gotta see some Hobbit Trilogy! You'll love it!

Dan

Yeah, I honestly think you should see the BTS of Lord of the Rings, primarily on the Extended DVD Set, if you can. Especially the "Cameras in Middle-Earth" sections as that shows the majority of what filming was like and how dedicated everyone was making this film, even in the final days of shooting, just gets so emotional, especially for Peter Jackson. It's just a joy to see, just as these reactions were.

Flashy Wolf

Well, the books are as good as the movies in the books you do not know that Frodo survived when the Mouth of Sauron throws the Frodo items to Frodos friends. So as usual I prefer the books BUT Peter Jackson did an amazing job and stayed very close to the books!

Dara Jeeling

I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you is one of the greatest lines EVER! There are so many thing I could say about these films. They're truly great. Two things I will say about differences between extended and theatrical - Saruman's death was EXCLUSIVELY in the extended version. When Christopher Lee saw the premiere he became very upset at Peter Jackson and it took a pretty long time for him to forgive him. The other thing I will say is there are a couple of additions I didn't think made the movie better - 1. the drinking game in the beginning of the movie which is an extended exclusive was amusing but unnecessary and 2. The ghost army stuff was mostly in the theatrical but they added in the ghost leader directly saying they would fight. In the theatrical we are left on a cliffhanger with them until the ships arrive to fight in Gondor. Also, one behind the scene bit to tease you before you watch it (I hope) is (and i cant remember the details but) at the very end when sam and frodo and company are saying bye to each other, the actor that played Sam wore the wrong outfit when they first filmed it. And so the cast had to do the entire day over again, they were so exhausted because they were literally crying all day and then had to back and it all over again! I loved your reactions and I can't wait to watch more (especially lotr related things)!

Aegis Duensing

Great reaction, Veggie! I would really love you to do check out all the extra dvd stuff from LOTR. I think it would be very enjoyable to see your reaction to a lot of stuff there! Maybe works better as a Youtube thing than as a watch-a-long on Patreon, not sure, but there's a lot of great stuff there! Both behind the scenes things with the actors, but also a lot of great stuff about how they built the world, etc. It's FANTASTIC. Haven't seen it for years now, so I'll have to check it out again soon. The Hobbit rections would be nice as well even though it's not LOTR standard, and very changed from the book, it's still an enjoyable story to watch. I still think it would be a good idea to wait with Fantastic Beasts until you've finished the Harry Potter book club because I think that'll make you enjoy them more (as the film series isn't done yet it would kind of make sense in that regard as well).

H

Damn dude you got dany Ed for sure when the movie flipped to the second half

Matt rasp

VEGGIE! Watching the epic trilogy along with you has been... emotional. From laughing with your jokes and references (the wrestling ones always pop me) to getting emotional with you, and I'm not usually a crier but at the end... A truly unforgettable experience, so thank you and keep being you.

SpeedyBrandon

Veggie, just as with Harry Potter, it has been an honor to go on this journey with you! I hope you do do a Lord of the Rings book club! It's actually only half as long as the entire Harry Potter series. I hadn't realized it, but you are indeed 100% Tom Bombadil, and it would be hilarious to see your reaction to him. Also, I'd love to talk about The Two Big Things They Changed That I Hate in the movies. One of them changes the whole reason I love the story in the first place! Thank you again for such a great time. I hadn't watched the extended editions in years and it was so much fun to go through it in detail again with you.

Those movies are so epic, my absolute favourites! Although I do think that how they show Eowyn’s love for Aragorn is a bit misleading. She is more in love with the idea of him and the things he represents – courage, wisdom, strength. He is exactly what she wants to be, which is why she had those feelings for him. In two towers she says that she fears a cage. But Aragorn and the others didn’t realize that she felt like being in a cage when left behind in battles and not being allowed to fight for her people. This makes way more satisfying to actually see her fighting in battle and developing feelings for Faramir. Also it is not explained properly in the movies, but as you suspected everyone who comes close to the Nazgul gets a condition known as the Black Breath which is usually lethal. Only a true king is able to heal it. In the book there is actually a whole chapter about how Aragorn heals Faramir, Eowyn and Merry. I’m glad you decided to check out the Hobbit as well. In my opinion nothing will ever get to the same level like Lord of the Rings but the Hobbit is still really enjoyable, especially because we learn more of the dwarfes. You just need to look at it as a separate series and not compare it to lotr, else you might be disappointed. Oh and PLEASE check out the behind the scenes! It is very interesting and entertaining. 😊

Tämi

what a journey, it was amazing watching with you, thank you.

Mariane Pereira

Everyone bowing is just so beautiful!!🥰

Diego Zenhäusern

Wow, that's really weird...how do they explin them having the Palantír without that scene?

Diego Zenhäusern

amazing reaction, I love having a reason to watch movies again, your reaction to it is just a massive bonus🤣🤣

Gohan

woahh that's so cool, is that mentioned in the books?

Gohan

Couple things, really appreciate the extra sync clips that you're trying to do. I always cry at the 2 final scenes, You bow to no one and EVERYONE is bowing to 4 hobbits. Then there's that surprise frodo ending you can kinda see coming but the emotions still hit pretty hard. Really enjoyed all your reactions for the series. :)

Shiby23

Fantastic reaction! Every time I watch these movies again, I fall in love with them all over again. Like some of the others have mentioned, the behind the scenes are fascinating for these movies and might make a good reaction if you wanted to do more content for LOTR.

Rm29

He also owns a Sting. Gotta admit I love hearing references on colbert's show. There's least one a month (lol at least!!)

aliennin

Would recommend watching Stephen Colbert, from the talk show, talk about the lord of the rings on youtube, it's really fascinating. Peter Jackson said he had never met a bigger Tolkien geek in his life, after he came on set while filming the Hobbit movies, he went head to head in a Tolkien quiz with the Tolkien expert on set and Stephen triumphed, and he talks about who is his favourite character from the story and goes into the background of Gandalf and more.

Bjartur Egilsson

I loved these reactions. I think it was bold to do these, especially with the extended editions. It's a very long viewing session which can be challenging to find time for. But I'm glad you didn't divide them into smaller episodes. Return of the King is my favourite movie of the three, but I have never watched it in isloation and do not like to compare them. The three are one story and none of them really work as standalone movies. It's not really relevant which one is my favourite, when I have to watch them all every time.

Ryan O'Driscoll

I'm so, so happy that you chose to watch the Extended Editions. My favourite characters - Eowyn and Faramir - were the most cut from the theatrical editions, both separately and together. Their romance is only hinted at in those couple of shots of them together at Aragorn's coronation. Not only do Faramir and Eowyn have no scenes alone together in the theatrical release, Faramir and Pippin don't have a single scene speaking directly to one another, and Eowyn and Merry's scenes are much fewer. Which honestly makes me so sad, because those friendships are wonderful. In any case, I love how perfect Eowyn and Faramir are for one another, and their scene together in this film is so beautiful. They are both noble, brave, gentle and kind people, who welcome the weight of responsibility, and have suffered much for those they love. More than that, Faramir is everything that Eowyn ever wanted Aragorn to be. A lovely fact about them, too, is that after the films/books, Faramir and Eowyn went on to marry and become the first Prince and Princess of Ithilien - the region of Gondor where Faramir first met Frodo and Sam, and where he once led the Rangers of Ithilien. Thank you so much for sharing this experience with us, Veggie. I have always felt that the Lord of the Rings are objectively the best films ever made, and the love I feel for this story, these characters and these films is indescribable. It was a privilege and a joy to watch you fall in love with them too. P.S. When you watch the Hobbit, make sure to stick around for the end credits song on the final Hobbit film. It was composed and sung by the actor who played Pippin (who does indeed have a very beautiful voice).

Rebecca May

Just wanted to drop in and say I agree with absolutely everything you've said here! Very well-spoken. :)

Rebecca May

Thank you, Gaseous!! That is so awesome that you experienced the extended versions alongside me! From what I gather, they added some of the best scenes!! I'll definitely love to to LotR Book Club when I can and hope to see you in the comments, on here or just on Youtube! :)

VEGGIE GAMER

Loved this as always! Really great reaction and doubly great for me because even though I had seen the theatrical versions of these movies about a hundred times before, I actually never managed to watch the extended version so that this was kind of my first time as well! And they're so much better!! Also: I like you feeling sorry for the olifants (correct spelling?) I always do too! They didn't choose to go to war after all I believe:) Finally: I would really love it if you did a Book Club on this too since I have only read the first book and this would be an amazing opportunity for me to read along with you☺️ So, I'll be on the lookout even though I sadly will have to be leaving this channel for a while. But it was really great watching along with you for Harry Potter and this🤗 thanks so much and I hope to catch you again later on:)

1) 100% would LOVE to see you react to the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy (4/5 are kind of standalones and I'm personally not as invested in seeing their reactions, but the original 3 are incredible). I actually would recommend re-watching the first one even though you've seen it before, because the first 3 movies are really one complete story. 2) As for LOTR, I ABSOLUTELY want to see you react to the behind the scenes appendices that were included in the extended edition movies. They give so much background, not only to how the films were made, but how the creators interpreted the story, why they made the changes they did, etc. I would completely be on board to hear your thoughts. 3) I actually agree with your initial assessment of Eowyn being a bit awkwardly put into Two Towers. Especially in the theatrical cut, she feels a bit like she's just there to force a love triangle. In fact, I don't think Eowyn is ever REALLY in love with Aragorn; rather, I think she looks at him, and see what she wants to be. 3) There are some significant changes in the movies from the book, most notably to Faramir and Smeagol, but I don't mind them in the slightest and I think they were done for good reason. In the books, Faramir is never so much as tempted by the ring, but I think that would have been confusing for movie watchers and undercut the ring's power significantly. I actually think more highly of Faramir after going through his arc in the movies. As for Smeagol, I find him a lot more conflicted in the movies, and the movie watcher is never quite certain where he is going to land. I appreciate that because that's exactly how Frodo feels. A lot of people get mad at Frodo for "believing" Smeagol over Sam, but Frodo truly sees hope for himself in Smeagol, and he's not wrong, Smeagol is a tragic character whose life was ruined by the ring. He was not born evil. I like that he's more grey in the movies. Ultimately, Gandalf was right as well; Smeagol did have a part left to play. If it weren't for him, the ring would never have been destroyed. And so the pity of Bilbo has ruled the fate of Middle-Earth. Looking forward to all your future content, Veggie! Thank you for the lovely reactions :)

Maia

Aww thank you Naomi!! I kinda wish that was a direct quote from the book!! XD

VEGGIE GAMER

Loved your 'Aragorn who?' comment -- it's pretty darn in keeping with the books, where Faramir's reaction to Eowyn pointing out she's on the rebound, so to speak, is a shrug and a 'you do realize that every young soldier has a man-crush on their first really-cool-commander, right? It's a thing.' My paraphrasing, of course. Thanks so much for letting us come along for the ride! I had a great time rewatching with you. :D

Naomi Schoenfeld

This whole Saruman and Grima scene is extended version only... in the original cut there was no Saruman and Grima at all... this is my number one reason to always suggest the extended version to people... i cant imagine the movie without this scene

Benjamin Hütz

Oops, that spoiler-ish comment might have been me, sorry about that! I mentioned Galadriel saying Frodo will not survive the trip and I see how that might seem like a spoiler from someone who hasn't finished the series yet. Seems like it kind of paid off though, seeing your reaction when Frodo didn't let go and grabbed Sam's hand. As you said at the end though, what she told us was true, from a certain point of view (hehe). Also, there isn't a single person in the world who wouldn't shed a tear when Aragorn bows to the hobbits. Not only was it Sam's daughter at the end, it was Sean Astin's actual daughter! How sweet is that. Beautiful reaction as always, made my Saturday. Can't wait for what's next!

Simon Bank

Another great reaction. Loved watching these, LOTR is my all time favourite, The hobbit is a close 2nd. Super excited for you to watch Hobbit next. In case you didnt see but Sam was made Mayor, he lived a full life and after Rosie passed he then sailed and joined Frodo in the undying lands, the Honor is given to ring bearers, Biblo, Frodo and Sam included no matter the length of time they had the ring. Cant wait for next reaction

Becki3497

Lol the quiet really made me laugh. Amazing reaction again!

Lovegood

im gonna be honest with you: I got a pretty unpopular opinion there, but i really like the hobbit movies more than the lotr movies... as for the books, lotr wins hands down, but the movie its vice versa for me

Benjamin Hütz

yeah! *goes in search for icecream* Actually the 3 Hobbit movies (made out of one very small book) would be a great addition! I love the Hobbit - even though not a fan of the added stuff, but the Hobbit storey is great!

Dara Jeeling

Great to see this! Can't wait to get your thoughts and reactions on a whole lot of things that happen.

Unholy Tater

he played that other orc that wanted to eat merry and pippin "just a bit off the flank" who then gets mega stomped by a tree

Matt Camburn

that one orc that you said you wish you knew his name, when they grabbed frodo after get got stung by shelob, actually has a name, Its "Gorbag" and the actor is Stephen Ure

Matt Camburn

Yaaay my afternoon is planned :)

Triene (Katie)

I'm sure many people will give details on the youtube video, but i just wanted to give 1 or 2 little lore points here: - You seem to have taken some hints here and there, but the movie really did Denethor dirty. In reality, the man has been defending Gondor for decades and used to be one of the strongest minds in the kingdom of men. The movie doesn't show it but Minath Tirith has a Palentir of its own (the black ball Saruman had) and Denethor used it to spy and trace Sauron's moves. He did that for decades, something no mere man could do. It's only recently that Sauron finaly got the better of him and started breaking his mind, leading to the state we see him in the film. - The beacons of Gondor are technicaly not to call Rohan for help. Gondor is a huge land composed of multiple regions, and the beacons are used to call for all Gondor fiefs to come to Minas Tirith' aid with their armies. The fact they run almost to Rohan is just a bonus; as you could see on the map , Gondor spreads all the way south of Rohan, to the western sea.

Marc Dums

Hi Veronika! :) EDIT: Oh! I see you have added a lot to the comment! XD Thanks a lot for the recommendation! Glad you are enjoying the stuff!! :)

VEGGIE GAMER

Hey Veggie! Please, please, PLEASE do the Behind the scenes footage!! I would really love to see your reaction. I´m sure it will blow your mind. It also covers a lot of the back story of the author, J.R.R. Tolkien and the writers explain why they made the changes they made. A book club for LOTR sounds fantastic to me. In fact, I first read them at the age of 12, and when they announced there was going to be a movie I really wasn´t sure whether I should watch it, since the story is so epic and the I was so captured by the characters that I was afraid a bad movie would ruin some of that for me. But Jackson and his crew did a fantastic job, and although I really was upset at first about some of the changes and left out stuff, I now fully accept those and appreciate them from a movie viewer perspective. All the best for you! Keep on doing what you´re doing, you´re spectacular! ;-)

VroDo

Seconded, I would really enjoy it also

Bryce

I would love it if you did a LOTR book club as well.

Adeptations

Thanks Marc! Sorry for the confusion, that is highlighting my over-use of the 'reuse' option on Youtube! XD I can assure everyone this is the Return of the King video and will fix the error real quick! :)

VEGGIE GAMER

I was a bit confused, but the title of the youtube video is wrong, you left "The two towers" instead of "Return of the King" in the title :)

Marc Dums

OH NO!! I just realised I left in 10 seconds of my silently looking around at the start! XD BONUS CONTENT!! XD

VEGGIE GAMER

Thanks Matt! I mention it in the video, DEFINITELY plan on doing the Hobbit soon, it my not be 'next', but certainly in the near future! :)

VEGGIE GAMER

Let’s gooo, my Saturday evening going to be amazing ❤️❤️, hoped you enjoyed it my man , can’t wait for the hobbits trilogy reactions soon 💪🏽

Gohan

may be late, but its worth the wait! really looking forward to this one. Are you planning on doing the Hobbit next?
