Hi guys! So sorry about the random time of night to post this! It took a long time for YT to process it (it's 3 hours long, so I can't blame them XD )! My reaction to Part 1 of the Deathly Hallows!.. I have teared up a few times this series.. this is the first time I have wept.

Loved this one, and I know it has a change of pace, but I think there is a reason behind that.

2 IMPORTANT NOTES!! -

I make a couple of predictions in my intro that still could hold water in Part 2. So I ask of you - Please do not confirm or deny them! We will discuss them after Part 2! :)

And the other note, I clearly got confused with the whole Regulus story arc, so sorry if I appear.. COMPLETELY out of the loop with it I am sorry!

Loved this one! I hope you enjoy the reaction! :)

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 First Time Full Reaction!

Comments

There are two scenes from the book that are hard for me to go through, one of them isn't in the movies, so I can't wait to see when you get to it Veggie as you are an emotional guy like myself (and as a hint Neville is in it); and the other is here in Bathilda Bagshot's cottage. Its very very scary and well done in this film, but in the book, its utterly terrifying and beautifully written, as it has you on edge the entire time.

Saltire

Thankfully I came in pretty close to you about to finish this series. Just finished your reaction to this and I am so eagerly awaiting the finale. I remember when I saw it in theaters freaking 10 years ago. I was so beyond hyped and was waiting so much in-between Parts 1 & 2 to see it finish, and I started to tear up when the title showed, knowing I was gonna be in for ride, it's gonna be a blast. And it's been nice seeing you watch them for the first time, hope you can do this with more movies. I mainly recommend you to experience the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, the Extended Editions of course, they are pretty long, but so worth it. Good luck with the finale.

Flashy Wolf

Yes! I never skip the intro, even upon rewatch. I love hearing what he thinks about what’s going on and all the little bits he learned after posting the previous reaction.

Hazelle

This is great, Tiffany!! Really interesting to see the times broken down like this!!

VEGGIE GAMER

Yeah there was a lot happening at that moment!

VEGGIE GAMER

Thanks Diego! Yeah I was kind of off with the Rememball thing! XD

VEGGIE GAMER

Thanks Katie!!

VEGGIE GAMER

Interesting, Bavelbella! I look forward to finding out what it was in the books! :)

VEGGIE GAMER

Yeah you are definitely right, Kamilla! While editing I was actually surprised at how long I was looking things up for! Definitely going to leave that stuff for the breaks in future! :) Yeah I can't wait to continue on with the books, they really add so much!

VEGGIE GAMER

Thanks Dara! Yeah I definitely need to check out these deleted scenes!

VEGGIE GAMER

Haha I hope you see had the margarita and nachos! XD

VEGGIE GAMER

Hahaha I am glad you marked out! XD

VEGGIE GAMER

Thanks Bjartur! I feel really silly for missing that part! XD

VEGGIE GAMER

Thanks Giorgia!! I was really trying to rattle my brain to remember where I had seen him before! XD

VEGGIE GAMER

Very interesting, Kega. Honestly Ron was possibly my favourite part of this movie! I really like Katlyn Stark, but you are right she does cause a lot of problems XD Thanks for watching!!

Ministry break in is also mentioned as a month after the wedding. Either 1st or second September.

Amane Kabbaj

On the day they go to Godric's Hollow...they have been hunting for horcruxes for approximately 4 months and 25 days. All of August, September, October and November plus 24 days of december (christmas eve) The movie kind of makes it seems as though the wedding took place on Harry's birthday because Hermione mentions the birthday cake plan for after the wedding and when they transported Harry from the dursleys to the burrow Mad-Eye mentions Harry still has the trace on him which means its before july 31st because the trace is lifted as soon as you turn 17. The battle of the 7 potters indeed happened July 27th. So some people believe the wedding happened on July 31st and add that day to how long they have been travelling but the truth is that the wedding took place August 1st. ( which confuses me because why didnt they give him a darn bday celebration on one of the 3 days they were at the burrow before the wedding. Lol.) Anyway...sorry for the ramble but to summarize... July 27th - battle of the 7 potters and transport to burrow August 1st - Bill and Fleur's wedding and 1st night of the horcrux hunt travels August 1st-Christmas Eve - 4 months and 24 days of travel in wilderness Christmas day - ron returns Hogwarts Christmas break - trip to Lovegood house, capture by snatchers, encounter at Malfoy manner, arrival at Shell Cottage. So beginning to end of entire movie is about 5 months.

Tiffany Dollard

It was grindlewald. Good on you for remembering.

Amane Kabbaj

Never noticed in the film that hagrid actually got knocked out. It’s very hard to see.

Amane Kabbaj

Antoher great reaction! Don't have much to say as most people already answered your questions in the comments and I don't wan't to give information that you'll read in the books anyway and that is not immediately important to understanding the movies :). But I have to say you're theory that Neville's Remembrall could be a Horcrux was hilarious 😅

Diego Zenhäusern

Uhh, yeah, pirates could be fun as well :)

Diego Zenhäusern

Idk, I think that the majority of people that have seen the movies AND read the books will prefer the books🤔 I'd even say that a lot of people sraight up dislike the movies because they often have to leave stuff out...but that's just the impression I get🤔

Diego Zenhäusern

so excited for this , my fave reactor!

Katie waldn

Also, with regards to being on the spectrum, I am too. I sometimes wonder how I come across in my comments. If you think I am being an ass at any point, it is not intentional (I love your channel), but feel free to call me out on it. Same goes for the rest of the patreon people. I'm here because I like it. Cannot wait for part 2, though I feel a bit sad that it will be the end of the Potter movie reactions. It has been great fun sharing this journey with you.

Ryan O'Driscoll

The voices with the polyjuice potion did make more sense in the books. They would have kept the voices by and large in the movies so you can still identify the characters. It's a thing that is a lot easier to write in a way that makes sense and is easy to follow, than it is to portray in the movies. It is a bit clumsy though as it leads to plot holes. Cheifly why don't people notice people sound wrong, and why did Barty Jr talk like Moody?

Ryan O'Driscoll

Generally I also try to separate the movies from the books as they are different media. Some elements of the books just don't work in movies, some artistic choices were made and they have to be ruthless about time as the films are long as they are. But there were some things left out that would have helped things make sense. The mirror and the "taboo" being key examples. There was also a lot of "oh s***, we cut this out previously but it is essential for the story, better shoehorn it in". Xenophilius' betrayal, for example, is so much more meaningful in the books as the quibbler is established back in Order. Rather than him giving his support at the wedding. The mirror also was set up in the books but didn't exist in the movies until this film so for a film only watcher it has no context.

Ryan O'Driscoll

Yes, I have the same problem with my version running faster. The same happened another time I tried which put me off watch-alongs for a couple of years actually. My version is the one on HBO Nordic btw.

Hilde

Many comments to make. The first being that your theorising is so much more on point. There are details you are picking up on that will make so much more sense when you get to the book, so I'm kind of hoping people don't give everything away! "Abba 4th" is genius and made me smile. Hermione definitely was protecting her parents by erasing their memories of her. Likewise the Dursleys left on Harry's advice. There were scenes that were filmed that are available as deleted scenes that flesh out the Dursley's a bit more. The book covers it in a lot more detail. Gregorovitch, the other wandmaker, was played by Rade Serbedzija. Famously Boris the Blade in Snatch. The Snatcher was Nick Moran, from Lock Stock, amongst other things. Godrics Hollow is a mixed wizard/Muggle dwelling. Hermione chooses many of their locations based on places she went with her parents. You are spot on about Ron. Every insecurity he had was laid out bare by the horcrux, overshadowed by his siblings, feeling inferior to Harry and feeling like Hermione would never choose him. As for the vegan thing, I think there will always be people who take it too seriously, but tbh I hardly noticed you making that joke. It's good to reflect on feedback, but equally some people need to lighten up. If you were actually that militant in your opinions you would have had a lot more to say in the Great hall scenes. One suggestion I do have, when restarting the movie, it is hard to sync even with the countdown as we all have different platforms. If you were to show a still of where you were, it would help to sync it up.

Ryan O'Driscoll

Also you seemed surprised that the ministry were acting so “evil”-ly. Voldemort had been working for a while to infiltrate the ministry. When the patronus arrives at the wedding it informs them that the minister (Rufus Scrimgeur I.e Bill Nighy) has been killed and that the ministry has been taken over by Voldemort (though he places his own “puppet” minister in charge rather than outright revealing himself to the world)

Garry (Not Jerry)

First of all - awesome video, thanks veggie for your entertaining and emotional journey! One thing that no-one else mentioned but it’s quite important to the story - Harry doesn’t really “notice” when he’s speaking parseltongue. He kind of just does it on instinct when he is talking to a snake or when someone speaks to him in parseltongue. So he didn’t notice that there was anything weird when Bathilda bagshot/snake lady spoke to him (ti think this is why she lured him away from Hermione first) I had trouble watching along to the DVD version. My copy seemed to be running faster so I was continually needing to pause to wait for veggie to catch up. Was this happening for anyone else? Hunger games: YES, Buffy: HELL YES. lotr is a “meh” from me (sorry) but I know that lots of people love it so I can understand why you get recommended it. Also Loling at your “where’s regulus” …yeh… he dead… But his story is explained in the books.

Garry (Not Jerry)

Wow! Never spotted that link before!

Garry (Not Jerry)

“Only fools and horses” is the name of the show

Garry (Not Jerry)

I’m in the minority here; I love the camping stuff 🏕 :)

Hilde

I know people love to shit on the "camping" but, god, does the loneliness and stagnancy of those scenes get to me. The scene where hermione and harry dance together is one of my favorites in the entire series, even though some say it felt out of place. I found it a beautiful depiction of two people trying desperately to feel joy at a time where it feels impossible, and a beautiful moment of friendship between harry and Hermione <3

Otso Casey-Stewart

The movie doesn't really draw out the pain of Hedwig's death (thankfully?) but I remember full-body sobbing when I read it as a kid

Mae

im literally gonna die if u do lord of the rings omg. best movie in history, period! hunger games is also a big big must! i would also recommend pirates of the caribbean

Shoko

It would have been great if they had show what Ron did at home to distract the deatheaters.

Bavelbella

Omg. I love and hate watching your reaction to this movie! I am sorry to say, that the last two HP movies leave out soooo much. So many important aspects for the story to make sense! I mean they are good movies from a quality standpoint. But I actually really dont like them because the story doesnt make sense. I understand that they had to cut a lot in order to keep the timing. But why did they had to add things that are not part of the story then?! The last film does that even more than this one! I know I am a minority with my opinion because many people like the movies better than the book. Anyway, I dont know what to tell you and what not to tell you! 🙈There are so many times where you question or predict something where i am thinking to myself: "the book explains that." or "wait to read the books before this one. It will be explained"! So i think I'm just gonna say thank you for your really fun reaction and i cant wait for you to find out all the stuff thats missing from the books. 😊🧡

Judith

Once again an amazing reaction from you! Can’t believe you’re almost done with the movies 🥺 I really love that you write stuff down to remember them, but I’m also a bit worried that you might miss out on stuff happening on-screen. In the final movie, there are some scenes that are brief and require you to really pay attention to understand. There’s especially one small scene that’s crucial, but a lot of reactors tend to talk over it. Then later they’re confused as hell😅 Maybe for that same reason, doing the research on actors can be put on hold until your break/review? I thoroughly enjoy how you are excited about cast members appearing, but again I’m worried you’ll miss something important while looking at your phone. Especially for this last part. We’ll be here to explain stuff to you either way, because the last movie is sadly not known for its clarity. But I’m kind of hoping that people won’t explain TOO much as I would love to see you finding out about certain details when reading the books 😄

Kamilla Mari

First off, loved the reaction. Unfortunately, a lot of plot points from the books they do bring into the movie but they really don't explain it well, like Harry's mirror for example or how the Snatchers track them down. I love these movies and I try to seperate them from the books as much as I can, but going in with book knowledge it always does frustrate me when I see those plot points come up with barely or no explanation at all because regular viewers will simply be left in the dark. At least you're reading the books now so you'll understand them as well at some point. And yes, Grindlewald was mentioned in the first book as the Dark Wizard who was defeated by Dumbledore, it was written on his Chocolate Frog card, I believe along with the information about Nicolas Flamel. The movie unfortunately doesn't delve deeper into the details of Dumbledore and his significance to Grindlewald because there is a huge story there, which, again, you'll read in the book. Looking forward to the next reaction and book review videos!

Marc Post

You made it through Harry Potter and the Camping Trip! This movie does have its slow moments, but that's kind of intentional. The trio was on the run like that for months and months. But! You had some questions along the way about things that either weren't explained or were explained poorly in the movies. I will say most of those answers are in the books. But here's some of them: Polyjuice potion: this was changed quite a bit from the book. In the books, the effects of polyjuice potion only last for am hour. Every time. Without question. Without fail. Hence why "Mad-Eye" drank from his flask so often in Goblet of Fire. Also, your voice changes into the voice of the person you're changing into. You don't keep your own voice. I thought that was a weird choice for the movie makers. Obliviate: the memory charm. This is what Lockhart tried to use on Ron in Chamber, this is what Hermione used on her parents, this is what they used on the Death Eaters at the beginning of the movie. It can modify or erase memories, depending on how you cast it. Hermione erased herself from her parents' memories to protect them. Harry's birthday: you mentioned being confused about why the Death Eaters wanted Harry so bad before his birthday (which is July 31). In the wizarding world, witches and wizards come of age at 17. Before that, they have the trace on them, where the ministry tracks them to ensure they aren't using underage magic. The Death Eaters had infiltrated and taken over the ministry, so they wanted to get Harry before they could no longer track him. They also knew where he was and if his location changed, they wouldn't be able to find him, which is why they wanted to get him in transit. The mirror: this was a gift from Sirius in Order of the Phoenix that didn't make it to the movie. It was a whole mirror that was a means of communication. Harry had one, Sirius had the other. When Sirius died, Harry smashed his, which is why he only has a shard. It's explained more in the books, but that's what it is. The "werewolf-looking dude": I love your description of him! This is Fenrir Grayback; he is a werewolf. He is the werewolf who turned Lupin as a child, who attacked Bill. He's not a good guy. Sorry once again for my extra long comment! I hope I was able to answer some questions, provide some clarification that the movie couldn't. Love, love, love these! Can't wait for the last one. Have a box of tissues ready!

itsanursething

okay I am not waiting for tomorrow to watch this. Need to watch it NOW.... BUT I will rewatch with the sea in the back... The Regulus story (and also the house elf things) will be more expained in the books. Excited... So happy you rewatched, because the film HBP really is so badly done - the boook is my favorite. Still sort of bummed what they did to the movie AND cutting out the choir scene as well. We need more Alan scenes XD and yes, Hermione is a Stark of Winterfell *laughs* also... if you want to check out they deleted two scenes from the Dursleys leaving - one with Petunia and one with Dudders - they do not contain spoilers - so you could check those out. They add a lot to the Dursleys and they have not be dine justice in the films as well. Do I know this person? After the book club you will have heard of her. yes, wandlore is very important *hint hint* As I have said before. Also about the mole thing. Someone posted earlier, that Snaoe was the mole - which is only partially correct - vut again, the books will explain that one. And whoever wants to challenge me on this - smail not post - try to keep this as poiler free as I can. Also, the actor who play the new minister for magic (Rufus Scrimgeour) stepped up to play the part that Alan Rickman was supposed to play in the "Limehous Golem" - I watched the film non the less and loved it. Also... The Tales of Beedle the Vard exist as book, so if you wann check the hilarious wizard tales out *giggles* and yes, I won it and my kids grw up with those as well as the "classical" fairy tales. Even though I am still not able to just tell the stories of Beedle the bard. "Classical" fairy tales I just tell, never read them.

Dara Jeeling

I sadly haven't gotten around to watch the episode yet, but just let me post this to crush all your hearts a little more: https://www.pinterest.ch/pin/558024210078715754/

Diego Zenhäusern

Yes, but I think he means, who told Snape. Cause he wasnt a part of the order any more at this point, he should not have known, the order knew that he killed Dumbledore so they would not have told him their plans. But how he knew is told in the books, if I remember correct, so he will get to that eventually, hah!

Tina Aikaa

Keep your intros long. We love them.

Jain Thorne

Yes. I hated that they left that out.

Jain Thorne

Oh this is exciting. Now my dilemma is do I start watching this now when I have to get up at 5am or hold it and enjoy it Friday night with margaritas and nachos. Logical me says "Wait". But the kid in me says "No! Watch it now!"

Jain Thorne

I'm also glad you saw the Harry and Hermione dancing scene for what it was. So many people think that Harry was making a move on her - but, he was just trying to cheer her up, and I think that's beautiful.

Keira Newren

A lot of people don't like this movie, because they feel it's too slow paced. It's my favorite, because of that. I think it's thrilling that they're on the run and hiding out. I can't imagine what else they would be doing, and I think JK Rowling would have made it too exhausting to have them finding horcruxes every other chapter. To me, the downtime makes the bigger moments that much more exciting.

Keira Newren

Excellent reaction! Also, being a wrestling fan I audibly popped when you used the 'Babyface' term haha!

SpeedyBrandon

These last two movies are my favorites as well...the Hermione and Bellatrix scene always makes me cry, they both absolutely knocked it out of the park!

Amanda Levy

Beautiful reaction, Veggie! Brilliant!!! Your reactions to these movies have brought me so much joy to watch; it brings back to being 11 and reading the first Harry Potter book and now in my 30s still loving them so much. I can’t wait for you to get through all of the books and am very excited for your reaction to Part 2! I do have one question, what is the comedy series you’re referring to with the actor that played Crouch?? I would love to watch some of the shows you reference with these wonderful actors. I hope you have a lovely day, and look forward to your Part 2 reaction. If you ever want to discuss the books or movies, I’ve read/watched them loads. Have a wonderful day and again, thank you!

Jeffrey Frisbie

Regulus Black is dead and he died a long time ago. It's well covered in the books but is just mentioned once or twice in the movies so you've just missed it. Just so you can stop wondering where he is.

Bjartur Egilsson

really great video but is it possible if you look up the deleted scene of the Dursleys leaving, I think you'll love it

Phoney Phoenix

Veggie, the snatcher guy is eddy the card shark from lock stock and two smoking barrels !!!!!!

Giorgia M

people give ron a hard time in this movie but he shows so much emotional maturity and growth in the beginning of the movie compared to even just a film or two ago. katlyn stark is probably my least favorite character in the entire show, books too but less so. the whole war is her fault. not bagging the actress her acting was fantastic, absolutely fantastic, but her story arks frustrate me so its hard to appreciate some of her scenes. dobbys death absolutely destroys me every time. honestly any of the major character deaths of the friends, idk why but when older cast members like dumbledor die i have less reaction. i think with him its because he was like widely loved whereas with dobby its like thats a personal connection first hand, and like harry did have that with dumbledor but i feel like they werent friends, dumbledor was a gaurdian and a teacher. that ending... ugh lol cant wait for the next one :)

Kega

It was Snape who told Voldemort when/how Harry was being moved at the very start. That is how the death eaters were ready for Harry and the others!! I just noticed you mentioned a few times who the mole might be but it’s Snape.

Giorgia M

I'll likely add to this as we go on. But to your first question, yes, Hermione erased her parents' memories of her and left them to protect them. She made a hellava sacrifice for them, took some serious strength of character. Hedwig's death was horrible and pointless, IMO.

RavenLord

Thanks Zack! I saw it trending but was worried if it had spoilers for the movies! Does it not?

VEGGIE GAMER

According to the Harry Potter Lexicon in regards to the Half-Blood Prince scene in which Hagrid's hut catches on fire, Fang *was* in the hut at the time, but Hagrid rescues him. I don't recall if there is more detail in the book, as it's been several years since I read it, but that's good because then I won't be revealing any spoiler beyond reassuring you (and me!) that Fang survived the attack. I have watched the series Buffy the Vampire Slayer probably about 5 times all the way through. If you watch them, I'll be dusting off my copy of it all and *happily* watch with you, because I can't wait to see your reaction to the show!

RavenLord

You should check that out veggie it's the state of play video for the open world Hogwats game!!

Zack Sutton

Can't wait to watch this tonight

Zack Sutton

Proper comment to come when I watch it 😊

Ryan O'Driscoll

Oh nooo my TV has gone kaput and I can't watch Blu-ray through my laptop 😥😭 so I guess I'll have to wait a little while longer for this one... first world problems eh 😅 Anyways, so excited! I suppose the wait will make me appreciate it even more 😂 I'm sure it's another superb reaction 👌 Have a magical weekend and thank you so much for these absolute gems!

Lili

this actually may be my favourite of the franchise haha i just love the acting in this one! especially the quick scene with hermione and bellatrix - utterly heartbreaking and honestly hermione's scream will always echo in my mind!!

Ollie Newey

Going to watch tomorrow morning. Very exciting!

Garry (Not Jerry)

oh wow what a wondrous time to still be awake!!!

Ollie Newey

That's my Friday night sorted. If someone said to me that in 2022 I'd be watching someone watching a movie I'd have said they were mad! Almost as mad as watching someone listen to a book...🤔

Ryan O'Driscoll

Nooooo it's midnight for me! Can't believe you've done this! XD

emmainkeri

I can't WAIT to watch this!! 💛🖤

Amanda Levy

RIP Dobby 😢

Cant wait to wake up tomorrow and start a day off with this and a cup of coffee!
