We don’t oppose it, but it’s not necessarily a clear win as all the allocations and memory management and DB stuff would still be happening on the Python side for synapse - plus you could end up with a bit of a maintenance and packaging nightmare keeping both sides in sync. There’s also a suspicion that the whole thing is a secret plot by Erik to incrementally rewrite synapse in Rust without anyone noticing ;p :)

I am curious why. Naively that would sound like a good way forward. Maybe even allow a more iterative approach to rewrite the matrix-backend in a fast language then the rewrite in golang.

2018-04-21 11:55:56 +0000 UTCI actually love the way these videos are often "rather glitchy" and "somewhat unprofessional". Not in the sense of real problems with it, because the key things for me are that this works well for me because it is recorded live, and things like "hey this needs to be dealt with right now" type things. But, in terms of being a useful way to get information, written information is *usually* better for me, so I really like both being available...
