Explorer Codex [Monster Thursday]

It's been a bit since the last Codex and I decided to look at some people you might meet on the road while lost in the wilderness. I've always liked the idea of exploring and seeing new sights, of moving through ancient jungles and blazing trails. Of course, the idea of exploration is way more appealing to me than actually doing it. This Codex features NPCs who are great at surviving harsh environments, hunt wild game, and are defenders of nature and the natural world.

Archivist (CR 2) Knowledge is power and the archivist spends their time gaining more and more knowledge as they travel. They jot down every observation they make, create detailed drawings of big and small creatures they stumble across, and intent on learning all they can.

Gilded Traveler (CR 4) Not every explorer is as honest as they could, or should, be. A gilded traveler might have written books, turning them into a celebrity, or merely look for free drinks in exchange for their wild stories they make up on the spot. This explorer was inspired by Harry Potter's own Gilderoy Lockhart.

Poacher (CR 5) The call of money is no stranger to these explorers who trespass, steal, and kill. They often work outside the law for their own gain, hunting down protected celestial beasts, like unicorns.

Trailblazer (CR 7) On the far edges of the wilds are brave explorers who have survived the worst dangers that the natural world can level at them. They are seasoned and weathered by the mountains, forests, and lands they explore and are capable hunters who can take down some of the most ferocious beasts.

Trapper (CR 3) While trappers might be considered poachers by others, trappers typically work within the law and harvest pelts, furs, bones, and more from animals they hunt. They often work with snares and traps, though are just as capable with weapons. If you are interested in expanding an encounter with a trapper, make sure you check out our Snarecrafter Tools!

Wanderer (CR 1) Before one can become a druid, you must first spend time communing with nature. While not all wanderers are looking to become caretakers of nature, they enjoy wandering through it and experiencing what it has to offer. They typically stick to lands near civilized places where there is safety before they grow closer to nature and capable of delving deeper.
