Manual of the Planes - Pt. 2 [Monster Thursday]

I thought about getting into the holiday spirit, but changed my mind. Bahumbug... - Stephen

This week's monster thursday harkens back to a previous post I made many months ago that featured different monsters from across the multiverse. This time, I'm doing another one of those somewhat focused on humanoids, though not whooly. These creatures can be found scavenging through the planes, the material world, or pretty much anywhere. They have a wanderlust, a desire for more power, for wealth beyond imagining, or have their own alien reasons that we'll never understand.

Bariaur (CR 1) Starting off with a well known humanoid created for 2nd edition's Planescape Campaign Setting, these individuals are all over the various pieces of artwork and just love to travel and adventure. They can be a helpful guide to clueless travelers, or even be a playable race as I have added in character traits to be used in a game of 5e!

Incantifer (CR 23) I don't know for sure, but I have a strong suspicion that the incantifer were meant to be the liches of the Planescape Campaign Setting. In fact, they are even more powerful than a lich, and for good reason. They absorb magic cast on them. Whenever a spell touches them, they simply absorb it into themselves and this is how they continue their immortality, by stealing spells and magic from items to lengthen their lives.

Speaking of replacing liches in Planescape, there is one individual who I'm sure would've been a massive deal had the campaign setting continued for longer. Alluvius Ruskin is an incantifer, though she goes to great lengths to hide her true power, who owns a small shop in the Market Ward of Sigil known as Tivvum's Antiquities where she gathers up all sorts of crazy powerful items. Lu hopes to see herself as the ultimate ruler of Sigil, and while there are others in Sigil, like Erin Montgomery and Duke Rowan Darkwood, I'd put my money on her to be the ultimate victor. Then again, I think she still has a long way before taking on the Lady of Pain herself.

Khaasta (CR 1, 3) Sometimes you just need some monsters to fight, and while these are humanoids and not monstrosities, you gotta work with what you got. The Khaasta are savage raiders and slavers who scour the planes for wealth and power. They don't raid with raw strength, but rather rely on their wits and intimidating presence to win battles for them.

Ravid (CR 5) These strange creatures hail from the Positive Energy Plane and little is truly known about their culture. What is known is simply from observing them as they travel the planes and attempting to talk with them. They are pretty shy and avoid others quite often, but occassionally the mood will strike them and they'll talk with others, though it is typically a conversation that they control as they scour answers for knowledge they are hoping to glean.
