What Should Jack's Next Two Minors Be?

Hi, everyone!

How are you all doing? I'm almost at the end of book 2 of HC: Handyman, and it's time to brainstorm the following two minors Jack will take!

To recap:

We've got Pottery, Bushcraft, Beekeeping, and Bard.

What should the next two be?

Let me know in the comments below.

Prospector/Surveyor/Forester/Explorer/Cartographer/etc or something along those lines so he can find gathering points and map them. with his bees helping to find resources to add to his maps. that he can then sell to other plays. and since resources probably move around and can be depleted he can sell new maps of the same area. edit: or maybe some sort of Guide. Like a Ghillie/Gamekeeper.(I honestly like the Idea of him Gamekeeper).((often abbreviated to keeper) is a person who manages an area of countryside (e.g., areas of woodland, moorland, waterway or farmland) to make sure that there is enough game for hunting, or fish for fishing, and acts as guide to those pursuing them) or maybe Custodian?

Those are awesome suggestions! Thank you so so much!

What about mapmaking? It would harken back to Pirie's mazes. Maybe it could synergize with beekeeping so that wherever his bees go, he innately learns that area. Or spying! He could use his bees to look for things. (Need to find a dangerous dino? 2 gold and my bees can locate one!)

Skinning/dismantling is a must consering how often his party keeps needing it. If it isn't locked into a major prospecting or tracking could be useful and would probably open up lots of quest lines. Maybe if in bushcraft there is a flint or stonework skill he could start collecting and using better rarity stone and ore (good for glazing, tools and weapons), maybe even get up to some precious gemstones and polishing etc. A whittling skill could let him start woodwork without a new minor. Maybe a synergy would let him craft and adze so he can make simple planks? (There's probably also an ancient firestarter he should be able to unlock soon or something) Jewellery is often misrepresented by crafting novels as people treat it too similar to blacksmithing(iron crafting). Technically jewelling and white smithing (silversmithing) / goldsmithing are different fields of study and traditionally you specialise into a specific skill (finishing/polishing, engraving, plating, stone setting, etc.). Jewelling refers to making any artifacts that can be worn on your person. All you really need to start making jewelry is a table, some side cutters, some pliers and a piercing saw. He could easily synergise jewelry with any other minor. Using animal parts or bushcrafting resources as features or cordage being one of them. Making porcelain pendants being another. Setting could help him improve the aesthetics and bonuses of his instruments and pottery. His glazing skill could help him with enameling. Having him carry around a bunch of hammers and stakes would be funny though so I think he should go into silversmithing. Mainly because I like the idea of him just hitting two pieces of metal together in the middle of nowhere. It would definitely attract some customers, that's for sure. Gold can also naturally be found in rivers so that could be interesting. Wax can also be used for casting. Glassblowing could be interesting but I'm not sure how it works with everything else. Maybe if he gets into stained glass he could combine it with his primitive construction as it develops to create better camps. He should definitely learn how to fire bricks and charcoal. Maybe a mix of bushcraft and pottery or maybe he'd need a construction or masonry minor for bricks and a lumberjack minor for charcoal. Primitive weaving from flax and bark could come from a more serious fabric related minor. If he does get gardening it should combine with bushcrafting to let him make bivouacs or living homes. With his new pet providing materials he should probably spend some points or learning a roundhouse recipe. Combining bushcraft, stick smithing, pottery. Maybe if charcoal burning is it's own minor, he could learn to make buried kilns and stuff from it. Learning how to make pit ovens could lead to roasting whole animals and brick/tile as I mentioned earlier. Different woods could make different rarities of charcoal maybe? Being able to dig his own kilns would certainly help with his potting as well. There are some pot recipes that require them actually. An indigenous one that involthes earthenware and feceas come to mind. And with his new pet providing one of the ingredients, it could work out quite well. Personally I'd suggest skinning and charcoal if it's an option. If not, maybe a wood harvesting one first, as it could have many overlapping recipes.

Those are really cool suggestions!

Love it!

Hi, guys! Thank you so much for your suggestions! I really appreciate it. It's funny that I had already an idea, and your comments went along with it.

Mixology to make drinks would be cool, could synergize with beekeeping and pottery to make mead , as well as survivalist with wild juice, or even with musician with drunken ballad or some stuff like that. Jeweling would also be a nice craft to have and he could finally start crafting some equipment, could pair up with survivalist to make bone rings/collars or even with clay.

Wood carving sounds good actually since he can craft instrument like guitar so that he can sing. Increasing the song quality

i think gardening is pretty much a given based on all the comments so far. for a second im thinking something to help better his other crafts. wood carving is an option but it doesnt mesh super well with his other minors but what about painting or stencilling, something to make his creations look better.

Stick crafting and weaving

Tinkering of some kind like his handyman trainer seemed to have just feels like the coolest possibility from what's known. Maybe some kind of skinning/tanning things to give him some use for hides etc and hopefully somehow enough to give him some better gear options? Although alchemy of any kind of a minor and not a major would be ideal.

Scott Frederiksen

I can't make a new line on phone, so I'll add my second recommend here: Lockpicker/Thief/Burglar. It would make him more valuable in groups if it was a minor. I remember his cousin had it I think, but I'd have to go back and read. That or soapmaker - If keeping yourself clean gives you a buff, keeping yourself clean and smelling nice might give you a different buff.

Assuming that Farming is a major, Gardening could be a minor that focuses more on high quality singular plants for ingredients. It'd synergize well with his current stuff in Pottery, Bushcrafting, and Beekeeping, while also opening up his market to include Cooks, Poisoners, Chemists, etc. Even Farmers and other Gardeners if they have a seed extraction skill that'd allow them to break down a super rare/high quality plant into a full crop.

I’m in for pottery and beekeeping. With woodworking that is a soup to nuts honey operation.

Coleman

I think some sort of Brewing/Drink/Potion minor would be interesting. It could work with pottery for creating containers or vessels to hold drinks/potions. It can add on to bushcrafting to add on to availabile options for players that might have portable effects/buffs. Works well with beekeeping since honey can be used from teas to alcohol.

abubu1991

My thoughts exactly on some kind of wood carving minor.

David Zimmerle

I'm thinking woodcrafting/carving would synergize well with bushcraft and stickcrafting. I don't know how feasible gardening would be on the go (a mobile shelf that can be mounted on Snowy with holes for pots?) but flower gardening I bet could produce OP combos with the bees honey!
