I believe it was Trent Reznor that so brilliantly stated, that fans of extreme music and art have a perception that they are all baby-eating machines. That, we are always dark, horrible, and maniacal. He also stated that when fans came backstage, they were very disappointed with seeing normal people having a beer and sharing a laugh.
This is a loose quotation to be sure, but an important one nonetheless.
One of the many things I try to reiterate, is that no matter the pursuit you choose—do it with all your heart, soul, and belief. It’s easy to assume that with what I do, that I’m this brooding woman that has hatred for society, but in actuality, I’m a goofball. (As you all have probably deduced.)
There was a time in my life that I genuinely thought carrying a heavy dose of misanthropy would cushion me from the blows of peoples’ actions, but I was lying to myself and those around me.
I think the reason why I do enjoy the things I do, and why I’m able to stomach eating blood, drinking piss, and playing in raw organs, is because I’ve seen that side, and I highly respect it. You have to go through hell in life to appreciate the light; and my appreciation for life has given me the opportunity to pursue the darkest of arts, and fulfill its glory to the highest honor.
Life is not always our art and vice versa. It’s important to always carry the humorous side of life along with the dark; without both of these pieces, there can be no complete puzzle.
And sometimes, having family, like my sister, who can be the complete opposite of who you are, can garner some pretty beautiful results. Be you in all your entirety, and know that it’s okay to laugh, smile, and hug a piggin. Frankly, nobody likes an asshole, and there’s nothing more aggravating than watching someone charm their way into thinking they’re the next Crowley. You’re not, and even someone like him probably enjoyed golfing on weekends.
