You should watch a nice Christmaseeey movie like ROADHOUSE or Being John Malchovich 😁😄😁

Still not sure what neo-realism means. It’s not a comedy, tragedy, or drama. It’s all of those things and a slice of life I think. Almost documentary style, but a fiction. Filmmaking like that was new once upon a time. They put Marciello/ Felini on The Flintstones in cartoon form and I had no idea as a kid watching reruns- at the time they used a lot of pop culture references from the 60s

If ya want to be like a film student 😎 Fredrico Felini is a good place to start foreign film studies. I like La Dulce Vita... then listen to the dvd commentary afterward to explain what it is you just witnessed. Felini is famous for mastering NEO-REALISM, but it’s just a regular movie until 1960s Italy references get explained to you. His other film Eight and A Half is supposed to be good, but I never saw it. Maybe I just like the iconic beautiful blonde bombshell Anita Ekberg- immortalized in La Dulce Vita. Hubba hubba

One of the best Foreign Language films out there is called "Das Boot (1981)" there are subbed or dubbed version out there. Its one of the best war movies ever made and the way it portrays the shear terror of submarine warfare is amazing. As for Movies that bring on the waterworks: "Pieces of a Woman (2020)" i saw this one recently and it crushed all 6'5" of me "The Fox and the Hound (1981)" a Disney movie about unlikely friends "Beaches (1988)" a Bette Midler film with the Track "Wind beneath my wings" "Dear Zachary (2008)" this one is really tough as its non fiction(as far as i know) "Sophie’s Choice (1982)" a Meryl Streep Oscar winning performance "Old Yeller (1957)" Very hard for dog lovers "What are you doing what that gun, Travis?" Hopefully, these are new to you(maybe not old yeller) and they are not the normal ones that are reacted to

If you say a movie will make Laurenn cry, then it’s been spoiled and therefore made CRY PROOF. Philidelphia is sad, particularly the Neil Young song at the end makes anyone cry. Also- MY GIRL. What kind of monster doesn’t feel sad for Vada Sultenfuss? What a beautiful gift that movie is! The song it’s based on by the temptations triggers an emotional response ♥️

Screw that guy who said Donnie Darko doesn’t hold up! What they did was released the directors cut which had all of this edited footage added in that was not necessary and already available on the original DVD special features. Donnie Darko is famously on most movie buffs top 10 list. The movie came out at a weird, uncomfortable time after September 11 where airplanes fell on buildings so the bizarre parallel was hyperrealistic/ therapeutic brain puzzle? Question mark... mixed with time travel and sacrifice FOR LOVE. Donnie stood up against the system and the eeeevil Jim Cunningham! Oversimplification of lifeline Love vs Fear- was brainwashing people. It’s brilliant! The quiet strength of Drew Barrymore as a TEACHER! That’s probably her best or only good role ever. The self awareness was real too- Donnie Darko~ “I knowww!”

If you liked big trouble in Little China, you might also like the Golden Child starring Eddie Murphy (very similar) you know how they say- things come in twos? And I see you haven’t done Rambo2 also! Yo! You want to see foreign films? Al Cinema Paradiso is my number one recommendation. Last Action Hero was largely overlooked because it’s a lot of 4th Wall breaking META which was not popular at the time. The kid was highly annoying- and didn’t represent a real Arnie fan (like me) 😉 it came out the same time as the original Jurassic Park and Pulp Fiction! It was pretty much destroyed by them at the box office. Arnold was best when he was “unintentionally funny.” I’m not talking about the dark one liners- those are hilarious. Last Action Hero was too purposefully funny- it had a lot of last minute changes behind the scenes and public found out about it. It came out AFTER terminator2 and BEFORE True Lies, so it was like a rebound/ letdown movie! I think that about covers it 🤓 More brilliant foreign movies: Seven Samurai! And anything by Akira Kurosaka. The Hidden Fortress was inspiration for the original Star Wars! Which it is loosely based on. You have to bend your reality lens to see it, but it’s there. Check out BRAZIL- by Terry Gilliam if you think British is still “foreign” A kickass Canadian independent movie called TURBO KID is totally rad!!! Trust me
