The Matrix (1999) - UNEDITED Watch Along

This was such a fun watch. I saw this when it first came out (seems like eons ago) and was completely blown away. It was such an amazing concept, to watch Neo become the most powerful creature in The Matrix. Also remember what the Oracle said about him not being The One..."In your next life maybe, who knows." Well, when Smith killed him and he came back...His Next Life. Lauren, this was such a joy to watch with you. I so enjoyed watching this with someone who had not seen this. Thank you. Much peace and love. <3

4th film did not undo anything. It fits perfectly with the expanded canon and adds to it. I knew from the moment they did the third film what the 4th film would be like because it was the most logical next step from the third and all the seeds of 4 were planted in three, the connections are obvious.

what's funny is both the actor who plays Neo and the actor who plays Smith are bisexual and they said they had some issues in the fight scenes because there was a lot of erotic energy between them when they would train together and do fight scenes together. Some of the interviews for this film are truly funny.

PLEASE PLEASE WATCH ALL THE MATRIX FILMS, INCLUDING THE ANIMATRIX AS IT IS CRUCIAL TO THE LORE.

I love how great the Trans Allegory really is in these movies as well as other queer themes and Iconography.

I saw the Matrix in a college campus early release party. Where we got to speak to the producers (pre-trans), Marilyn Manson. And some executive, either from WB, or the organization that hosted the event. Anyways, phenomenal showing. Great concept, loosely based on the cyberpunk themes available in role-playing games from the 90s era, like Shadowrun & Cyberpunk. Keanu was actually coming off another futuristic cyber film, JOHNNY MNEMONIC. I was always a fan of the dream sequence and allusion to Alice in Wonderland, which I feel persisted throughout the film series. Also, be aware, many film connesours gleam a very strong similarity to the Christian Christ mythology in the film. In fact, my film teacher famously hated the movie for its strong Christ concepts. Which, personally, I can see what he was describing, bugt I also feel that was more circumstance than collusion. Also, the sequels aren't bad, per se. But, 2 & 3 were meant to be seen together. I believe they were actually filmed together. And it was the post production that limited the release schedule. But, you can definitely see the late 90s anime influence on the 3rd installment. Some very prominent anime had similar storyboard sequences. And the 4th film, while dutifully done inits own right, really undoes a lot of the world building that was completed by the first 3 films and various spinoff, such as games and miniseries.

The “I love you”-alive scene makes more sense when you tie it back to the rest of his Oracle discussion and a kinda creepy bit of biology… The Oracle tells him that he’s “waiting for something” maybe your next life, who knows?”. The Oracle had given him a cookie (same usage as online cookies) after giving him her messages so he’d have remembered even if subconsciously. Creepy bit of biology: The brain of an average person with an untrained body can go 2-3 minutes without oxygen before damage starts setting in. After the heart has stopped (if there is nothing else damaging the brain) the brain is still alive. Primary reason of CPR. The damage caused by gun shot wounds to the torso (real life or Matrix “your body makes it real” kind) would cause the heart to stop functioning, hence the EKG flatline but the brain to still be functioning. Trinity’s declaration of love could have been put forward as: “He believed being shot stopped his heart so it did, but since the brain stays alive afterwards he would hear Trinity’s statement as it was just seconds later. It was the last piece of affirmation he needed to believe fully. On finally believing he was The One his still-alive brain started his heart back up just like it shut it off as they’d established earlier that it was the brain that made physical effects occur in the real world”. That style is reinforced by his responding to things she says after he’s alive again but still in The Matrix. But it’s delivered in a way that is cheesy fairytale-trope of “and love magically saves the day”. Which makes me cringe while liking the scene itself when I shove the cringe over a bit lol. It was really fun watching you react to this. I liked a lot how much it grabbed you, it certainly did make a splash at the time as you know. The effects especially were so new that it was jaw-dropping (same idea had been used before, but not in this way and degree… technology had only recently reached the ability). I went once to the cinema, then grabbed a good friend of mine and dragged him to it the same weekend lol. Loved seeing it so fresh for someone again :D And I’ve never spoken to anything about The Matrix before lol… so weird to get this chatty on it. I'm blaming my lack of sleep hahaha.
