Weekly Update #18

Hey Everyone!
Hope y'all have had a good week. I have 4 new projects to show you this week, so let's get started!
- 0:00 - Better Together: This idea is about being more powerful together with someone else. You can accomplish more together than you could apart. I even wrote some basic lyrics to this but after some time away from the project, I'm not sure I'll finish this. Ironically, this ended up being the weakest idea I came up with this week. There are some cool concepts in here and I would definitely repurpose them at some point!
- 1:35 - Unchosen: This is a short orchestral concept that I put together this week. It's about flawed heroes. It's not the path a person would have chose, nor are they the person anyone would have chosen, but it's the path they must forge. While I'm not sure I'd finish this, I had a lot of fun sketching out something orchestral - it's been almost a year since I've even touched a lot of that stuff.
- 3:17 - A New Home: Curiosity is a fascinating thing. I was thinking about how it can make us change our mind and push towards goals we didn't think were possible before. I settled on the name "A New Home" because I don't think I would have moved 2000 miles across the US a couple of years ago if I wasn't curious about how to experience new things. This song really encompasses that idea and I'm pretty happy with the idea turned out. Specifically, I really like the Arp lead in this one (I was going for something very similar to my song "Stop") and the bassline. I think I'm going to pursue this one.
- 5:28 - Oath: I've been listening to a lot of fantasy audio books the last few months (need something to fill that GOT-sized hole in me) and this one was an idea I had to write a song about an oath from long ago. Something long forgotten but recently rediscovered. Yeah, very original, I know haha. But this was a cool concept to start from. Also, with this idea I really tried to have a few limitations on writing. Specifically, I wanted to keep the chords somewhat simple and have a melody that was built off of either the 3rd or the 5th of each chord. I tried a few ideas on both the 3rd and 5th there but I liked this one best (it's built off the 5th of the first chords and sort of bounces around that). Honestly, I really like this idea and I think I'll finish it. But it does sound really similar to a lot of the stuff I've been releasing recently so maybe I'll wait awhile to release it.
That's it for this week. Which idea did you like the best? Let me know in the comments!
Also, I've been writing so much electronic stuff over the last few years (and very heavily this year). I think I'm going to take 1 session each week and try something REALLY different than my normal stuff. The orchestral project this week was super fun to work on and I want to try things like that again.
As always, thanks so much for listening and for supporting. Shattered is out for the public today - so keep an eye on YouTube for that tomorrow morning. If you haven't already downloaded it, you can get the wave or mp3 file for free in the previous update from last Saturday.
Have a great weekend!
- Andrew
