Weekly Update #17

Hey Everyone!

I have 3 new WIPs for you this week. Also, expect an update tomorrow with some goodies :) Let's goooo!

• 0:00 - Anchor: This is a DnB idea I came up with earlier this week. It's about the thoughts and obligations that can weigh you down... 'Anchor' seemed like a pretty good name. I really like a lot of the individual elements in this but I don't think I like the idea as a whole. I'm not sure I'll finish this but I may repurpose a fair amount of the stuff in here.
• 1:40 - Premonition: I wrote this one about the feeling you get when you feeling something is coming. A lot of the recent stuff I've released and have worked on has been pretty light hearted and upbeat and I wanted to work on something more 'epic' this week. I also wanted to keep the melodic idea on this one as simple as possible and see what I could do with it in different sections. I really like how it turned out. It still needs a lot of work to become a legit song, but the ideas are all there in some form or another. Probably gonna finish this one.
• 3:40 - Carbon Fiber: This is another track that fits in the 'epic' category (at least that is what I was going for haha). I wrote this one about the theme of "unbreaking" and being unwilling to budge. Not quite stubborn, just committed and with resolve. Carbon Fiber was the name I chose that seemed to fit (for now). The idea started with the drop - I wanted to keep it a bit emptier than some of my previous songs so each element can shine separately. I also kept a lot of the chords and melodic ideas simple on purpose. I wanted to see if I could execute this idea without adding a ton of 7ths, 9ths, 11ths, or 13ths, which are always fun but can sometimes crowd up a song harmonically. Later on I ended up adding in some of the orchestral elements and this one really came together. It's already arranged into a full song though a LOT of it needs work. It's both different and similar to things I've written in the past. And it's also at 120bpm, but doesn't really feel like it. Either way, I'm actually really liking this one. I think I am going to finish this one.

I have a lot of WIPs right now that are at various states of being finished. So I'm looking forward to finishing as many as possible the rest of this month and also putting some new ideas "down on on paper" between next week and the following week.
