it does work to some extent, but it's so inefficient, and destroys so much of the chemical that it's not really worth it compared to other methods like bisulfate distillation.

I apologise for off-topic posting, but as you did the nitric acid series recently I was curious whether you'd seen this video or info on generating nitric acid using electrolysis of potassium nitrate solution? Not terribly concentrated (He guessed 0.5M), but interesting in that it required nothing but a nitrate salt dissolved in water, ceramic pot, graphite cathode/copper anode, and a constant current power supply. https://youtu.be/2aRf0tSu6mc

Well, that very cool what would Zirconium do as metal if you could buy it. It is highly resistant to acids. It used in Nuclear reactors for that reason.
