Patreon preview - Make Dimethyl Dioxane

Yes! that's part of it. it also has that ether connected to a secondary carbon, this is rather susceptible to peroxide formation. One of the most notorious peroxide formers is diisopropyl ether. Labs have been known to go up like dynamite because of it, (and use has been discontinued by most labs for this reason).

2018-07-06 20:24:51 +0000 UTCI'm often brought back by these situations to the bottle of ether that was stored in a science classroom where I attended several classes. It was kept there to anesthetize, or, I remember the prof saying, "now we will 'etherize' the tiny fruit flies taking care not to kill the little darlings." That bottle was on the shelf, at least two years, and the room was often hit by the sun (though I don't know if the bottle was ever in direct sunlight). Scary.
