Patreon Preview - Make Copper Formate
Added 2018-04-30 22:37:46 +0000 UTCA simple video with simple chemistry this time. I'm trying to have a mix of super complicated stuff (like making sodium) with straightforward stuff so everyone can have a video they'll enjoy.
Anyway, this video is pretty self-explanatory. Making copper formate with the eventual objective of making copper conductive ink. Let me know if there are any errors or suggestions.

Copper chemistry is one of my favorite things! I had the same question as Bob with regarding the hydration of the sodium carbonate. I make mine by decomposing sodium bicarbonate at 200°C, and keep it in a sealed container.

You appear to be using anhydrous sodium carbonate while the more commonly available form is the decahydrate commonly sold as washing soda. Perhaps it might be an idea to identify your specific reagent. A less informed chemist attempting to replicate your procedure might inadvertently use the decahydrate instead of anhydrous sodium carbonate without adjusting for the stoichiometry.
