Patreon Preview - Grignard Reactions (Unfinished)

This is video is clearly unfinished, it's a skeletal version of the upcoming Grignard Reactions video. But it should give a good idea of what's going on.

It's taken so long to do but it's essentially 6 videos of work in one. Part 1 is about drying diethyl ether, Part 2 is performing a grignard reaction in detail. Part 3-5 are other grignard reactions but since they're carbon copies of part 2 with minor reagent changes they're much shorter. Part 6 is testing the tertiary alcohols and proving they are tertiary alcohols. This part is NOT done yet and it's just a single slide in this video but will be expanded to add another 5-7 minutes once it's ready.

There are also lots of missing clips, graphics and equations but the structure is still there.

Anyway, let me know if you think i'm on the right track or if there are any changes or additions you want to see. If the explanations are unclear or you'd like me to go into further detail on a point.

And finally, let me know if you prefer separate smaller web videos (and paying for them), or if you prefer these thoroughly comprehensive 44 minute videos worthy of an hour TV slot.

I'm glad you broke these videos up, although I just wanted to say that I do support longer content in general. Transitioning to longer, episode length content might be most fairly done gradually and/or accompanied by a request that people consider restructuring their donations. For instance, to me, it'd be awesome if you produced a few 20-40 minute videos encompassing some of the longer term projects you were looking at vs. many 5-10 minute videos. I think the creators that do longer format stuff probably have patronage biased more towards the monthly donation model though, so continuing with shorter videos might be easier, and I feel like you have increased the length and detail a bit over the years anyway, to a point that is a pretty good balance.

gotcha, i'll see what i can do about splitting it up and streamlining/cleaning up the grignard videos.

Definitely at least two videos. As a proto-amateur chemist, the grignard part was a lot to take in all at once, and I'll be watching that part, and parts of that part many times. There is a divide between making the grignard reagents, and doing the grignard reactions, but since you make one and carry on to the other without stopping, there isn't a clear break there. Because these reagents, from your comments, degrade with contact with air, it doesn't seem like making them ahead and storing them is a good idea anyway. The other potential break is between doing the first grignard reaction, and all the rest. It does suggest the idea of an intermediate video that goes over the grignard reaction generally, then a third video that goes over each of the reactions you cover. Dunno, still processing all of this. You've clearly done a lot of work here. In my estimation, four videos worth. If you only make one or two videos here, there should be some bitcoin in your future from anyone who appreciates how much work went into this. (Patreon should add a "boost" feature for product posted so it's easier to add rewards for outstanding work [IMHO]).
