Patreon Preview - Obtaining Guanidine Carbonate and Guanidine Chloride

Latest video for your review.

It's a bit quick and simpler than others because i'm expending most of my effort in making pyrimethamine which will be essentially 2 videos in one.

Anyway, let me know if you think this guanidine video is alright for a standalone post or if you think it's better if i simply fold it into the pyrimethamine video

BTW this video is actually around 5 minutes but it runs for 7 due to an encoding error. I'm aware of the error and will fix it in the final video.

yes, amatuer approaches convert urea to guanidine. And many amateurs have done it that way. I personally was never able to get it to work.

I now understand my confusion... and it excites me. Am I reading it right that urea is related to guanidine? If so could you make guanidine from urea? Carbonyl vs amine? (please forgive amateurism)

Sean Walton

it's normally made from calcium cyanamide which is converted to cyanamide, then to dicyandiamide and then to guanidine. It's not related to hydrazine as none of the nitrogens connect to another nitrogen, they all connect to the central carbon.

Useful, but I was left with wanting more. Could you talk about how you would normally make it? It looks like it has hydrazine as a component. Is this correct? If so, could I use my hydrazine sulfate in synthesis?
