Kings Journal: The Erotic Papyrus - erotic art 1150 B.C.

In Kings Journal I write about bara topics and (bara) art.
This time we have a look back in history to one of the oldest pieces of erotic art: The Erotic Papyrus.

The Erotic Papyrus aka Turin Papyrus is an ancient Egyptian scroll-painting that was created approximately in 1150 B.C. It was discovered in the 19th century in Deir el-Medina and was brought to the Museo Egizio in Turin (Italy). The Erotic Papyrus is 2,6m long and the height is 25cm. It consists of two parts:
One part shows 12 erotic images the other part shows animals acting like humans and performing human tasks.
The original Papyrus is heavily damaged today, but luckily there where two copies made after it was discovered, that show the full coloured content.

Animals
The animals have been described as satirical and humorous. According to some researchers the animal part is also the public part of the scroll, while the erotic images where not meant to be shown to everyone.

The erotic images
All erotic images show different sex positions between a man and a woman. The woman wears fancy clothes, while the man has an average look and a huge dick. You can not miss his boner, so I feel quite comfortable with the dick sizes I draw. The papyrus prooves that dicks are drawn huge for more than 3000 years.

The Papyrus creators
Deir el-Medina is an ancient Egyptian village, which was home for the artisans who worked on the tombs in the Valley of the Kings. One of them or more - we will never know - got a papyrus scroll (papyrus was precious and not easy to obtain) and started drawing all these erotic images.
Usually the artisans focused on traditional and religious content without any exception. But some of them also drew in private. They drew the things they wanted and they saw in their minds on potsherds.

Imagine you would live in ancient times together with other men in an artisan village. What would you do in your leisure? Jerking-off for example.
Or you draw some entertaining erotic images for yourself and your pals. That would be fun and useful and if some stranger comes to see your work you simply only show the animal images you draw as a camouflage. And when the stranger is gone you you can watch all those dicks you drew.

Artisans not artists
One very interesting part in the history of art is the word and the job itself.
In ancient Egypt the word "art" was not really known and all these gifted artisans where just artisans. They created paintings, architecture and wrote hieroglyphs. They were known as scribes or artisans.

The difference between artisans and artists began in the 14th century in Italy - more than 2000 years after all those amazing art of ancient Egypt, that was never known as such.

The importance of erotic art
Erotic art is not religious and erotic art has no boundaries to culture or time. It is an honest reflection of human nature. The Erotic Papyrus captures another part of life, that no pyramid or tomb would have ever shown. The papyrus shows daily life, humour, fantasy, fable animals and shows an ancient Egypt of the living, while most of their culture focused on death and the afterlife. It is a piece of art of the same artisans whose creations made ancient Egypt immortal.

Do you know ancient erotic art, too? Maybe some hot guys pics from ancient Greece?! Tell me in the comments.

Comments

Greece really had a lot of erotic arts and stories, I think they were more "liberal" to talk about these things, specially because mostly of the gods of ancient Greece and even the human heroes had a lot of stories with other humans, male and females (and satyrs too haha). I didn't knew about any ancient egypt erotic art, that is very interesting to know about! ^^

Joseph

It is known that Greece has erotic art on plates and vases, including men on men sex. But Japan also has many erotic prints.
