I took an interest in music— hammering away on my dad's acoustic guitars— by the age of 3. My earliest memories are of him looping tracks by Esteban, attempting to gauge my interest in guitar. The first thing that truly took was Ozzy. Dad put a boombox in my room, and let me have his copy of The Ozzman Cometh. I bounced up and down on my bed, attempting to sing along to every word. Ozzy was my introduction to rock and roll, and my barometer for whether something was "real, heavy rock" or not as a child. I didn't ever want to listen to any sort of soft-rock... Just... "Heavy rock." Of course the first riff I wanted to learn on guitar as a kid was the opening to "Crazy Train." I even snuck a butchered version of into the earliest nouns songs, back in 2006. Man... Yeah. I'm feeling weird today. I have to credit Ozzy, and my dad's influence, with making me fall in love with rock music.

I know my dad is feeling pain today, as am I. Something wild in growing up loving a legend, and then the legend is no more. I maintain to this day that the heaviest song in existence is War Pigs.

Rest in Peace, Prince of Darkness.
