Alexxa Reacts to Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) | KHAAAAAAANNNNN!!!! | Full Watch-Along Reaction

Hi fam!

We return to the USS Enterprise with the second movie of the franchise: Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. You guys hyped up this movie and you weren't wrong! This movie was sooo good! I loved the new characters, but most importantly, I loved the Kirk/Khan combo! Khan is the perfect villain, I explain why in my commentary at the end. That ending made me cry. I wasn't expecting it at all. But it makes me really excited to watch the next one!

I hope you enjoy this reaction!

Xoxo,

Alexxa

Awesome reaction! I love this film and have watched it over 150 times. It really demonstrates that the most compelling sci-fi is about the characters, not the technology or battles.

This movie is a fan favourite with complete justification (it's certainly the ST movie I watch the most!) Despite the fact that it had a lower budget than The Motion Picture, it feels much bigger; far more exciting; and way more involving. The scope is impressive, and the characters are well developed. This was partly because Gene Roddenberry ( who oversaw every aspect of the previous movie) was politely (..?) shuttled to one side, and given the honorary credit of 'executive consultant',or some such. Basically, he was paid to not do anything! Instead, the creative controls were handed over to a new team who decided on an 'action and character' approach. Initially Leonard Nimoy wanted nothing to do with the film, but was lured back with the promise of a great death scene send -off for his character. This part of the story is arguably the highlight; although, when you think about it, Spock has hardly anything else to do in the movie - McCoy has by far the better dialogue. Nonetheless, the storytelling is much better (there are some good subplots, in addition to the Khan storyline); the f/x are much more exciting and entertaining (including one of the first uses of CGI, for the Genesis simulation); the character writing is effective; and the whole film has a pace and scope that was missing in the first movie. Some of the science is screwy, but I can overlook that! Some trivia: The Defiant is actually upside down. That's because the films Producer looked at the initial designs the wrong way up,and thought that that was how they were supposed to be, and nobody wanted to correct him! Khans right-hand man is played by the visually striking Judson Scott - whose name appears nowhere, either in the opening titles nor in the end credits. This was due to an error on the part of his agent! (He made a good impression, though; because he appears later in the Trek franchise as different characters) This was Kirstie Alley's first film appearance.

First thank you so much for doing that!! Second, THANK YOU!!! I knew I knew her from somewhere and it was nagging me!!! When she first appeared I was dissecting her face trying to figure out where I had seen her before πŸ˜‚

Noticed this around midnight. Stayed up until 2am watching the movie with you. πŸ˜‚ Golden Girls crossover moment. Carol Marcus is portrayed by Bibi Besch who played the wife of the doctor who dismissed Dorothy’s symptoms and then inexplicably traveled to Miami for dinner. When Dorothy tells him off she’s the one who shouts β€œShut up Louis!” when he tries to defend himself.

Yay! I can't wait to read your comments after Ian! πŸ’›

I echo Baz' comment. Will do a rewatch (probably a 10th!) of the movie tonight. This is a personal favourite of mine, so you're reaction will be great:)
