Cool, for reference I'm using the following orgsyn article as my basis; http://www.orgsyn.org/demo.aspx?prep=CV2P0015 Started from there and worked back through precursors until I found stuff I could get my hands on easily.

Very interesting! maybe i'll give it a try since i have large amounts of waste o-chlorotoluene and no project to use it in.

It seems that Patreon only allows comments to be nested one deep. In answer to your question, I need o-Chlorotoluene for a somewhat hideously over complicated Amateur synthesis of of N-Phenylanthranilic acid for testing the output of a (per)chlorate cell to ensure that all the chlorate has been converted to perchlorate. o-Chlorobenzoic acid and Aniline aren't exactly the most accessible chemicals (well, I couldn't find them anyway...).

the separation step somewhat labor intensive and not at all accurate for determining the ratio. We're essentially destroying one isomer faster than the other. Since it consumes the desired isomer to some extent, any ratio calculated will be unreliable.

NurdRage

ah cool! If i may ask, what are you using o-chlorotoluene for?

NurdRage

Why did you use NMR if you can separate the different isomers? Couldn't you use the separation process to determine the ratio? Or is the process too complex and cumbersome? Sorry if I'm trampling the next video...

Heh, I knew there'd be some useful "side products" (pun not intended) from this video series, I've been after a synthesis of o-Chlorotoluene for a while :)

Jrandom Bob

Thanks for your kind words. I really appreciate it!

I would like to thank you for doing the things you do, and that very much includes any and all mistakes. Speaking from experience, I don't doubt that they are quite devastating when they happen; particularly when you can directly translate them into monetary losses. We often learn many of our most valuable lessons as a result of failures; and I am proud to support you in this respect.
