I am a teacher at an international school abroad. We have a decent set of chemicals for inorganic chemistry, but I was wondering what some common chemicals or labs we could do that involves organic chemistry? While I can easily do experiments outside, we don't have access to a fume hood, so we couldn't do anything that would have super toxic fumes. I was thinking about something like making nylon.
2016-03-07 06:32:33 +0000 UTCWhat happened to your video on making potassium metal? I found it on another channel but I was wondering why it's not on yours anymore
2016-02-28 06:43:23 +0000 UTCI plan on making copper oxychloride. From what I read, the way I want to achieve this is to by mixing a cupric chloride(in HCl) solution with solution of some sort of base. Ive found where people have used sodium hydroxide as the base. My question is, could I achieve the same results if I neutralized my cupric chloride with copper hydroxide instead. Reasons being ive made copper hydroxide pretty easily by electrolysis and I figured there would be less overall contamanation in the final product. Love your channel. Thanks for any input.
2016-02-22 02:30:10 +0000 UTCDo you think you will be able to make a video on isotope separation, specifically deuterium water from normal water. There is already a youtube channel that covered this(Cody's Lab) but I was wondering if there was a quicker or easier way to do it.
2016-02-15 07:00:45 +0000 UTCWhat are the mechanism, required concentration and time of chloroxylenol as a disinfectant? Wiki only vaguely says "disruption of cell membrane potentials". There is not much information about the time of contact on the internet too.

2016-02-15 03:59:41 +0000 UTCI'd like to know more about chlorinating primary alcohols. It is a problematic area, because primary alcohols don't give a shit about strong acids (like HCl) and an average nurd won't get his hand on any chemicals which work. I believe Thionyl chloride is too dangerous to sell to individuals, but never asked about it. So, is there a safe way to chlorinate primary alcohols?
2016-02-14 14:05:20 +0000 UTCDo you have any interest in or in-depth knowledge of the realm of silicones/siloxanes? I've been fascinated by them since I began using silicone both in moldmaking and in prosthetic makeup effects. I love all the various additives and alternative formulations that produce such a vast array of phyiscal properties. But to my dismay, I've had the hardest time learning about the early chemical discoveries that first introduced them to the modern world. I understand that it pretty much all starts and ends with Dow-Corning, and I've gone as far as tracking down the earliest published papers both on silicone oil and RTV silicone polymers, but, being an outsider with little more than a 15 year-old course in honor's chemistry, I've found the information rather tricky to digest.
